Ugh, I hate medicene. My mom always buys the cherry flavoured type and it tastes really bad. And she's bought the same medicene everytime even though I BEG her to buy, like, grape or some other... less gross flavor.

Ithir 11-04-2007 10:34 PM

Woah.
Thankfully, I rarely ever get side effects from my medicine.
Although I'm afraid my favorite drug may be causing stomach pains in me, which have been very painful ><
I'll cry if I can't take it anymore.

I hate pills, but I've gotten used to swallowing them, since I take 3 per night (And my vitamin is massive!)

There's this one medicine I used to take when my sinuses got infected, and it was the greatest tasting thing I've ever had. I miss it. T.T The flavor should be bottled and sold!

shellthabunny 11-04-2007 10:45 PM

I don't ever take it unless a doctor makes me.

Kalium 11-04-2007 11:07 PM

Your hands shake erratically when you take medicine? To be honest, I've never heard of that happening to anyone I know before.
Anyway, My mum's a doctor, so she knows when to give medicine and when not. I take two kinds of pills now, One antidepressant (I swear to you, it's prescribed) and a pill I take for the PCOS syndrome I have been diagnosed with. I don't get side effects from medicine (or cosmetics), thankfully. It doesn't mean that I take medicine because I just want to, though.

Fabby 11-04-2007 11:10 PM

I'll finally give up and pop some pills when said illness starts interfering with my functioning.
For instance;
Little snifflies? Not worth it. I hate Benadryl.
But if I have to go to school and have a cold, I'll take the pills even if it's just a little one. I hate having to constantly walk up to the front of the class and get a tissue... Ugh.

I... had a bad experience with cold medicine once, so I try to avoid it. Unfortunately, I have to take pills every day anyway, so the idea of pills isn't that foreign to me and I probably end up taking it sooner than most people.

life in red and black 11-05-2007 03:04 AM

@Cardania - Yea, I take them when I think my teachers will notice me and want to send me home... I'm taking a lot of classes I can't afford to miss so I take cold pills to stop my symptoms and continue going to school. Never taken decongestants though. Just cold pills.

@Sirec - The only thing a doctor told me to take was Tyenol. My dad never took me to a doctor after that. It was my first fever and my dad hadn't gone to an American hospital yet.

@mystic kiwi - My teacher's daughter works with tracking drug traces and she said her daughter can find out every single cold med and other drugs you took in the past... I dunno how many months, >.< but it was creepy she could do that.

@Enniel - I HATE staying up all night sneezing or coughing. It's horrible!

@PixelBabii - Hopefully those are some really soft napkins. My parents manage a restaurant so they buy really cheap and stiff napkins... which are worse than our toilet paper.

@Teeth - You're right. You're the opposite of me! I've never found any meds that taste good... Well, I haven't taken vitamins before. Yea, you scared me for a second... I remember reading DiGi Charat where the villains who were doctors tempted her by offering strawberry flavored cold medicine... never got that, but if some people like the flavor of medicine, I guess I understand now. I love the red licorice, Twizzlers! Black stains your teeth AND it smells. I ate it once. XP

@Livia - Oh, I hope I can hear the story sometime. >.< I hope I never end up that serious.

@Deadly Mango Kitty - I hate Cherry flavor ANYTHING because I associated the flavor with the children Cherry flavored Tyenol cold syrup... I HATE Cherry flavor now!

@Ithir - Another person who likes the flavor of a medicine... O.O

@shellthabunny - I don't see a doctor... never thought I was that seriously ill.

@Kalium - Yea, this is the second time it has happened... but it stopped shaking when the meds wore off, so I guess I'm okay. Hmm, I don't wear makeup so I wouldn't know if I'd get an allergic reaction.

@Lovvy - It weirds my friends out that I have a Box of tissue in my locker. I hate the embarrassment of walking up to the teacher's desk to get the tissue repeatedly until they tell you to "Take it and keep it on your desk" >.< I use A LOT of tissues, so when I forget to bring a box of tissues and use the teacher's, I bring them a new box when I can.

Trueno 11-05-2007 03:13 AM

I feel like I need medicine the moment I have cold symptoms. I know my body well enough to know that if I'm beginning to get sick, if I don't start to get rid of it immediately it will get way way worse.

I like cold medicines. None of them are supposed to actually CURE colds, they're to eliminate the symptoms for a few hours so you can get some well needed rest so your body can more effectively fight off the cold. How're you supposed to sleep when you have to get up to blow your nose every five minutes, or worse you can't even breathe through it?

If I have to use toilet paper to blow my nose, I will. Unless it's the crappy paper thin stuff that is just awful.

The effects I usually get from medicine are the ones the medicine is supposed to cause. I don't have allergic reactions or anything like that, I just get sleepy and feel better.

About your shakes.. Y'know, I'm not a doctor so if I'm wrong don't quote me on this, but I'd say that's not completely normal. Either that or it's the placebo effect, and it's just in your head that that's what cold medicines do to you.

Starting to get cold? Yes, yes it is starting to get cold here. It's cold for 9/12 months out of the year here in good ol' Minnesota. D: A Florida "cold" front is probably what, 60 degrees? We've been in the 40's and 50's up here and it's disgraceful. I wish I lived somewhere warmer, honestly.

life in red and black 11-05-2007 04:09 AM

@Trueno - I wait until I'm severely impaired by the cold and can't work before I take the medicine. I just don't like to take any even when I know I'm sick. I don't face the facts because I avoid meds... haha... and yea, you're right. It gets waaay worst.

Lows are 67F. Yea, not really cold to most people, but I'm Floridian all my life, remember?

MasterChiefrei 11-05-2007 06:29 AM

I take medecine whenever I feel a major headache coming on or that time of the month. ><; Other than that if I get really sick and have a high fever of something I really have to take the meds so I can go to school and not be dead. XD I'm old enough to take pills and they don't taste like anything so I don't have much to worry about there. The only side effects meds. have on me are making me screw ball hyper. XD Cold medicines I just take pill form, it works faster and no taste to worry about. And I use tissues...cuz they feel better on me nose and usually toilet paper goes else where...XD The shakes in your hand might be normal since I usually get shaky when I'm sick and tired. ><; It's damn cold! *Indiana/Missouri*

Starmor 11-05-2007 06:36 AM

Im not one to take medicine. I tend to feel even worse after i have taken the meds. So I just suffer through it untill it passes. That or I drink like five gallons if Tropicana OJ. Grovestand preferabley.

I read a lot of studies about how cold medicine only temporarily stops the symptoms, not cure the cold.

So, this morning, I woke up and was sniffling and sneezing the whole morning. Our house ran out of tissue paper so I ended up going through a whole roll of toilet paper... that's when I thought I better get some help.

I was blaming my cold on the sudden cold front but I remembered I didn't even have 24 hours of sleep at night this week... ugh.

SO, I finally broke down and took some cold medicine. I stopped sniffling and sneezing. INSTEAD, I now have the shakes in my hands and arms and a hot feeling along my spine and back of my head...

I kinda regret taking the medicine. This shaking in my hands won't stop!!

So, discuss *do not copy and paste and do a survey with these spoonfeds!!!*:

-When do you feel like you need medicine?
-When do you finally give in and take medicine?
-What's your view on cold medicines?
-Do you use toilet paper to blow your nose?
-What side effects do you get from medicine?
-Are these shakes in my hand normal?
-Is it starting to get cold where you are yet? (I live in Florida and a cold front just came)

  • maybe this sounds odd but i don't really like to depend on medicines...

specially after some of my familly become people who can't continue their daily live without at least popping in some sets of prescribed medicines and vitamins into their system every single day.....

and i've seen people who gets better after they stop taking their medicines...which is very odd in my oppinion...

so when i'm sick, i rather isolate myself in my room...and stock the table and refrigerator with healthy food and drinks...then i'll keep on eating and sleeping, try to minimize my other activity...

on the first couple of days, it will be quite hard, but after a while your body defense system will start to kick in and you'll get healthy again in no time..and without taking a single medicine......

long process and not easy, but it's more natural, and it's like training your body defense system to be stronger next time..

of course that only come from personal experiences, no science proof....and maybe only me who do that...

and it's not because i hate the taste of medicine or hate needles, doctors, hospitals or anything like that...

i just hate to be dependent on things that can be taken care of naturally if we're just being a bit more patience...

`F o a m 11-05-2007 11:38 AM

  • I can't take much medicine because I throw up if I try to take a pill. xD
A lot of people think I'm lying about it when I tell them but it's true, and it sucks. D: I can only take small pills like those allergy things... I forget the name. So I'm gonna have to stick to liquids... T_T

secretdae007 11-05-2007 01:06 PM

I take medicine only if I'm really sick. As in, I've puked my guts out and have a really high fever or I am in so much pain I can't take it (but I can generally take a lot of physical pain). I just don't like taking medicine.
I don't even like taking aspirin for headaches.
The only medicine I take on an sort of regular basis is cough drops and they don't really count.
I don't usually get side effects from most medicines that they don't warn you about ahead of time (like drowsiness).
Though I know that one of my friends, who got their wisdom teeth out, took some really strong numbing medicine and she kept thinking that people were coming into her room at night O.o;

Pkero 11-05-2007 01:09 PM

Let's see... I feel like I need medicine every day, considering I need meds for ADHD. But cold medicine, I take when I'm feeling really stuffed up, etc. I do use toilet paper to blow my nose when there's nothing else. I never get side effects from anything. Shakes are normal depending on certain things, from cold, disease, excitement, worrying, etc.

And yes, it's freezing over here.

woopdidoodoo 11-05-2007 01:47 PM

I hate taking meds as well, but I have a vurus and have to take it to be able to get rid of this stupid sore throat and ear ache. I also can't swollow tablets, I chuck em back up again.

promised_forever 11-05-2007 02:12 PM

I never really feel like I need medicine except for when it comes to cramping. I usually wait a couple of hours and try a few other things before giving in.

I hate cold medicines and I think it's all in your mind. They never used to make me feel better.

I hate that people pop some aspirin everytime they get a headache! There are other things they could do and a little pain never killed anybody.

Besides when I'm cramping the only time I had to take meds was while I was miscarrying. Vicodin worked wonders for me.

Eww cherry flavour medicine...why does every type of flavoured medicine have stupid cherry? And why do parents always buy that?!?! >.<;;

Phantasmagoria 11-05-2007 03:17 PM

I hate pills, since it takes me a while to swallow, but I need them.
one time I didnt take my medicine for 2 months, then my doctor made me go on them again. I had alot of side effects from not taking them, then side effects from trying to adjust to the medicine again. so I wount do that again.
whenever I am sick or have a headache I take some pain reliever, I take so many already I dont even think about one more.

life in red and black 11-05-2007 11:25 PM

@MasterChiefrei - I never take aspirin... I just go sleep... I guess I never had any that serious. But I see kids at school pop in twice the recommended amount because "it isn't strong enough". That makes me wince. >.< I always take pills for fevers. My parents make sure I do and I don't like burning up either.

@Starmor - I feel worse after taking it and then I feel better. Just that it takes a while before I feel the effect from the cold medicine. O.o how do you get your hands of five gallons of OJ? I usually have half a carton in my house because my lil sis and I drink so much. We live in Florida and we drink Florida's Natural OJ, which we found out came from the oranges at a grove really close to us.

@Black Cat - I hate being dependent on them too! So I stop taking them once I *think* I'm better... but of course, in my haste to stop taking them I don't notice I'm still sick and wind up taking them again... Those people feel better because the medicine isn't right for them or is causing more harm than good. But it doesn't mean their original illness is better though... just the new side effects go away and side effects can be worse than the illness's symptoms itself.

@'Foam - XP I hate the taste of liquids... but they are easier to take. I heard they aren't as effective as tablets though? That's why children have "cold syrups" and adults take pills.

@secretdae007 - >.< My parents won't let me use cough drops, saying it's not actual medicine. I usually cough my lungs out (not literally) before I submit myself to cough syrup... My parents trust this chinese herbal stuff so you've got to understand my avoiding...

@Pkero - I went through a whole roll of tissue paper... yea, I was stuffed up. I think the shakes were from lack of sleep... ^o^ It's kinda warm right now again... Florida is not getting cold easily is it? It's putting up a fight!

@woopdidoodoo - A girl in my class last week complained about an ear ache and a bunch of lady teachers told her to drip olive oil to soothe it... Never tried that before. I usually wet my ear... temporary relief.

@promised_forever - I'm just scared for my friends who pop in aspirin all the time, and double the amount too! I don't think their headaches are any worse than mine, but I endure them. My friends were surprised to hear I never took aspirin. I guess your cold meds didn't work for you... a lot of posts say they think it's "all in your mind" too.

@Sirec - I know! And it's not even dark cherry - it's the bright red cherry that I never eat on my cake or ice cream...

@Phantasmagoria - I never needed to take medicine for a long period. I can't even stand two weeks of Tyenol fever medicine!! I started throwing up the pills and couldn't drink any more warm water by then and I got better even though I didn't take any more meds.

Clair Voyant 11-05-2007 11:53 PM

I take the medicine when I finally can't move, I'm in so much pain!

Caroline 11-06-2007 05:48 AM

  • First of all, I have to thank you for telling people not to copy and paste those questions, because that is my BIGGEST pet peeve on forums. XD

I try to take non-recreational medication as rarely as possible. I personally think medicines for little things like colds and headaches are extremely overrated. I used to take cold medicine (dextromethorphan) for fun, and if I dexed while I actually had a cold, it made no difference for my symptoms. If an entire bottle of Robitussin is not helpful in suppressing coughs and stopping my nose from running, why would one or two single pills do anything? :P I just wait it out with a nice box of Kleenex with aloe (softest. tissues. ever.) by my side.

Aisha Woku 11-06-2007 10:38 AM

I hate, hate, hate, hate, hate taking medicine. It's horrible but I usually wait until I feel absolutely lousy before I take anything. If it's a cold I won't take anything until I'm completely stuffed up and coughing a lung up. Or if I have the flu or something I won't take anything until I have a high fever, deep chills, or shakes. The only thing I will take medicine for is head aches. I have been known to get migraines (not very often, but sometimes) and they completely throw my body for a loop, so it's best to get a head start on them. Heh.

Titenya 11-06-2007 03:55 PM

i don't think shaking like that is normal...

I have year round allergies, so it's not untill my nose is running down my face, or my post nasal drip is so bad that I can't breathe that i break down and get cold medecine. then if it's not gone in 2-3 weeks I will go to the doctore, but usually I jsut take dayquill/niquill gel caps and ricola cough drops

promised_forever 11-06-2007 09:35 PM

I bought this peppermint scented lotion that you were supposed to put on your temples. It really works to rid you of your headaches! loves it!

Also I had a heated lavandar scented pad to help with backache and I use the hot/cold pads for cramps. Those usually work.

Medicine isn't the only solution people!

life in red and black 11-06-2007 10:00 PM

@Clair Voyant - I fall asleep from pain usually... it's the best escape, if I can fall asleep in the first place, of course.

@Caroline - I agree! I do it sometimes by accident, quoting it above my post because I was reading from it while I typed and forgot to delete it. But I usually remember to go back and edit it off. Surveys don't belong in the discussion forum. - What's non recreational medication?? Taking medicine for fun? I don't even like medicine when I have to take it! I've never bought the "with aloe" tissues... my grandmother used to plant them and crush the jelly inside the leaves for beauty stuff she makes. When it dries, it tightens your skin.

@Aisha Woku - Lol. The only time I don't take medicine for is headaches, and I've never had migraines. But besides that, I'm like you - hate x5 taking medicine and waiting until I feel really horrible.

@Phedre - I've always been able to fall asleep even with my nose running. Actually, I can fall asleep almost anywhere! So I don't take anything like nightquil. I lose track of time when I'm sick, but usually I start throwing the medicine back up after two weeks.

@promised_forever - my mom tells me to put my nose above a cup of boiling water and sniff the steam. It's like a little humidifier. Makes me drip more snot but it makes my throat feel better. My mom and grandma has a LOT of home remedies... I don't trust them though...
