as soon as i can't breathe out of my nose,
i take some tylonol cold.
and if i actually have a cold or the flu,
i down some nyquil and sleep the whole day.
taking medication doesn't bother me at all.
i'd rather take cold medicine than feel like crap.

I hate swallowing pills. Up until recently, I had smashed all my pills and mixed the powder in water to drink. Of course it tasted nasty, but that was the only way I would take it. I can take pills normally now, but the thing that finally drove me to that was me with half of my face paralyzed. ...That's the only reason why I took pills.

I've found that cold medicine makes me dizzy--so dizzy that I usually end up tearing. It stops the sneezing, but it makes me want to curl up and die until the effect wears off. It's quite annoying. Benedryll also makes my throat fell very warm and raspy. I told the nurse this, and she told me it was normal for some people. -.-

I'm actually getting over a cold and have stopped taking medicine with every meal. It feels so good to not have to take a pill every four hours.

WHEN I CANT GO TO SLEEEEEEPPPPP. I hate when I'm sick and can't go to sleep.

Shampoo Suicide 11-12-2007 12:53 AM

When do you feel like you need medicine?
If I can't breathe when I lay down, I need some sort of decongestant. If I have a headache, I want some acetaminophen. If I'm not feeling a-ok, chances are I want something to fix that. *total hypochondriac*

When do you finally give in and take medicine?
I eat medicine like it's candy when I don't feel good. *flail*

What's your view on cold medicines?
If it stops the suffering for a while I'm all for it.

Do you use toilet paper to blow your nose?
If I run out of tissues.

What side effects do you get from medicine?
Ibuprofen and I don't get along too well, but I normally use acetaminophen anyway.

Are these shakes in my hand normal?
I'm not a doctor so I don't really know, but I don't think it's anything to worry about.

Is it starting to get cold where you are yet? (I live in Florida and a cold front just came)
It's been cold here for a while. xD

I just had a terrible cold that turned into a sinus infection not too long ago. I was taking medicine like crazy. The cold I could deal with, but the headache from the sinus infection was hell. I seriously had to be laying in a pitch black room just to be in moderate pain. x--x;

Uzura 11-12-2007 12:58 AM

I try to avoid liquid medicine as much as I can. Honestly, the taste of that stuff is so horrible, it looks like I'm going into a seizure. The only time I'll ever take it is when my mom comes up to me, shows the cup of medicine in my hand and tells me to drink it.
She knows I prefer the pills! But they always seem to get misplaced when I'm sick. Sometimes I think she just likes watching me try and psych up before I take the medicine and then almost die right afterwards.

delial 11-12-2007 01:31 AM

It's still not cold here in Arizona. I want sweater weather! :(

As for medicine, I used to refuse to take medicine for anything. Which got me into big trouble when I was 12, because I refused to go to the doctor or take medicine when I had a chest cold, and it went into pneumonia and I wound up having to be wheeled into the hospital when I realized I could barely breathe, and was hospitalized for 2 weeks. That was horrible. O.O;

So...basically I will now take medicine if I have something that seems serious, haha, but for headaches or other things like that, I just tough it out or take natural remedies, because I just don't like to put weird things into my body. xD

As for your shakes, that may be an allergic reaction, I'm not sure. I know some people react more harshly to medications like that, you may wanna ask your doctor about it next time you go in just to find out what it may be. ^-^

When do you feel like you need medicine?
actually, i really don't hesitate when i know
that i need to take it, in order to get better,
so at the first sign of illness, i take some.
When do you finally give in and take medicine?
when i know that i'm getting sick, or my
allergies are acting up, i go for it right
away.
What's your view on cold medicines?
excellent, especially theraflu, it works
wonders for symptoms.
Do you use toilet paper to blow your nose?
yep, when there are no signs of tissue, i go
straight for the toilet paper =]
What side effects do you get from medicine?
of course there's drowsiness, which i don't
mind, i don't get enough sleep as it is xD
Are these shakes in my hand normal?
actually, i've never gotten the shakes after
i take medicine, unless you've taken too much?
Is it starting to get cold where you are yet?

jessieomer 11-12-2007 02:49 AM

Well I have an infection in my side currently and I do have medicine for it. But the problem is the medicine is in the same group of medicine I get a serious 1 in a billion side effect from so I never want to take it. When my side gives me those erally icky stabbing by a billion knives pain and I can't stop crying I end up wanting to take it. And when my dad sees the tear trails he always asks me if the medicine did it, but I tell him no. So yeah I can't have junk food or soda because of the infection.

Oh yeah that super rare side effect I get is depression.

Yeah 11-12-2007 02:53 AM

I only take medication for congestion because the medicine for coughing doesn't help at all. My husband has brought some cold medicine home that has kept me awake, so I don't like to take it at all really.

wish 11-12-2007 03:22 AM

  • i just suck it up and take it, because if i don't i know the next day would be worse. ><

Lolly 11-12-2007 03:34 AM

I'll finally stop and take the medicine when I'm to weak to walk around.
I also,hate medicine.
The way it tastes, how it feels running down your throat, how part of it always sticks somewhere in your mouth.
Ugh.
Unless its something major.
Then I'll take the medicine right away,as when I go to the doctor.
I'm taking medicine for Depression,Anxiety, and Insomnia already.
A good Six pills a day.
Thank goodness none of them are that syrupy mess.
:/
Though they still taste awful and have to be taken with water,if I could take it with milk or tea it would be different, but only water. .__.
Eh,but they work. But I know I'm already hooked on that sleeping pill. Which is only going to worsen it's situation.
mmm,but at least they're helping now. u3u

Also,my many side effects depend on the medicine.
Drowsiness,weakness,fever,dizziness,hot sweats.
But those are the usual ones.
None of them are fun to have.

&lastly; Winter.
Yes its coming now.
Temperatures are dropping quickly here. 0;
Won't be long till the roads start icing over, and hail bombs the houses.

Cherry_Doll 11-12-2007 11:47 AM

I'll omly take medicine if it's flavored,
other thank that, nope.

life in red and black 11-15-2007 06:21 AM

@manic monochrome - I wish I could sleep the whole day...

@psyrien - yea, that tastes really really nasty. I get dizzy from cold meds too and I want to curl up and die, too!

@[p!x3Lz`] - Funny thing is that sleep is exactly what you need to get better.

@Shampoo Suicide - AHH! You copied and pasted the spoons!!!

@Uzura - I agree. Liquid meds are the worse. But when I was a kid, I feared pills more. I remember my dad handing me pills once, and I asked him where the liquid stuff was. He told me I was really sick, and he thinks I was old enough for pills, which is stronger. >.< Took them forever to persuade me to switch over to pills.

@delial- It's not 'cold' actually - it's more like the wind chills you... and I have freezing classrooms. I have to wear long pants to sleep now though. Why do you want sweater weather so much?

@xXLucky_DuckyXx - >.< You did the copying and pasting too...
@Eileanora - ... Okay, maybe I need to bold those instructions.

@jessieomer - I'm not allowed to have cold drinks, chips, and for some reason, my chinese parents also believe citrus is bad for me when I have a cold?? >.> Um, that's against everything I learned from school.

@Yeah - That would be horrible to have cold meds that keep you awake. They're supposed to let you sleep because sleeping is the best remedy for colds.

@wish - That's what I always fear - that it would be even worse tomorrow T-T

@Lolly - My parents when they're around forbid me to take meds with cold water... I don't know why, but I have a gag reflexion to warm water.

@Cherry_Doll - I actually hate flavored medicine the most. Since all I usually get is cherry flavored... XP

memarcus 11-15-2007 07:45 AM

I take medication right away. Illness always comes at the most inconvenient time for me, and I want to be sure I get well as soon as possible. I take medication in mainly in pill form so I don't have to deal with the taste, but I also use home remedies and natural cures as well. Whatever it takes to get healthy.

[SARGASM] 11-15-2007 08:04 AM

I hate taking medicine.
I prefer getting better on my own which doesn't usually take that long.

I don't really trust all that medication stuff. Unless they're natural herbs and stuff.

Madeline Sparrow 11-15-2007 09:18 AM

I have to be almost dead before I'll take medicine. I hate the way it smells and tastes and I don't care if it says cherry flavored on the bottle. It still tastes mediciney.

And then when I do decide I'm sick enough to actually take it, I take the worst tasting crap I can find, which to me is Nyquil, because I know it will at least knock me out cold a couple of times. Sleep is what my body usually needs and so after that long stretch of sleep I don't take it again because what happens is that it will have the opposite effect on me and I'll be wired for hours. I hate that feeling.

Aisha Woku 11-15-2007 09:23 AM

I think the cherry and grape flavoring in most medicines makes it that much more worst to take. Dx I usually like the orange flavoring though.

ForkoFried 11-15-2007 12:01 PM

well everyone gets symptoms as you're describing,
or they're not admiting something...
But i still try as hard as possible to not take medications,
even taking more than two vitamins a day is harmful to your health...
I absolutely hate pain medications,
not because of the short-term side affects,
but because tylenol and the like demolish your liver (very easily, might i add)
and motrin and the like give you ulcers (they WILL)
in fact it's been proven that pot is more healthy for you as a pain medication than even tylenol
i don't recommend it, though xP
But besides all that ranting, i'm one medicated son-of-a-bitch!
I have a lot of GI issues and have to take a laudry list of crap

number_F 11-15-2007 02:25 PM

Wow that had just happend to me a week or two ago.
I was sick and my nosie would not stop running I had to go to a party that night so I'm like "Fine I will take some cold medince and drink a Rock star so I wont be sleepy for the party" then for the next week I was so unbelivebly sick, I was shakeing like crazy, I could not do a thing. So I stoped takeing the cold meds and I was completly fine. Meh I think they just make you sicker so the companies will make more money, because how do you make money if every one is fine. (Sorry for my spelling errors I know there must be a lot but this computer does not have a spell check. :c )

Saphon_rose 11-15-2007 04:53 PM

ive been sick all my life so ive sort of gotten used to the taste of medicine the only medicine i wont take is something for pneumonia. ive had pneumonia three times in three months and the medicine tastes like shit!

life in red and black 11-16-2007 05:58 AM

@memarcus - I always get sick before an important test... that's my excuse for my poor grades at least >.<

@[SARGASM] - I take forever to get better on my own... and I don't trust those drugs either.

@Smarmy Madeline Sparrow - I've never felt awake from meds before...

@Aisha Woku - I don't remember orange flavor... I remember only cherry tyenol - Yuck! Grape came after, but I had already changed to pills at that age.

@ForkoFried - Wow... interesting facts. But I'm not going to prefer to take pot anytime soon. ^-^;

@number_F - I don't think you should drink energy drinks like Rock Star after taking meds. O.o

@Saphon_rose - I don't go into the waters, so it's hard for me to get pneumonia in Florida, I guess...
