Yah. I think my first thing is to get to know my instructor for Psych and ask her about colleges with a good Psych department and perhaps do inquiring at the school in question. I have a feeling the community college possibly would be pressed to help pass getting an associates. I will ask them, but I don't want to stop there.

Chi 02-05-2010 02:07 AM

*nodnod* Even if they tell you what you need to do later, you'll have a better grasp on things for when you can continue on.

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:08 AM

Definitely ask them, because you would be surprised the amount of information even a community college academic adviser has access to. But it would be wise to get to know your psych professor as well.

You can also do a little self research here.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:16 AM

Thank you Steel! *bookmarks*

I will do some inquiring and see what info I come up with. Right now I'm happy to have gotten my foot in the door, and I'm headed in the right direction which was difficult and gruesome going through all the paperwork and the waiting. I think the hardest thing on ANYTHING is just getting going...and once you get going it becomes easier to progress forward. Well generally speaking.

Aaron's like whoooa first things first - get your Associates THEN do this stuff. :/

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:18 AM

Although, technically speaking, it would be more efficient to just get your bachelors. Use this first year as a way to get your prerequisites out of the way. But that would mean another two years he'd have to wait.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:27 AM

He says that he doesn't mind, as long as we can sustain ourselves at a current standard of living. He also wants to get the same opportunity to develop his career and his education too, which is completely understandable. Right now since college is in full swing I need to take this time to ask questions and possibly look at tweaking my course schedule if need be in order to transfer out or build upon the courses I'm taking on. Options. Options as to how I can approach this. I think what I've got as far as associates would be considered a building block, but another college could say hang on no you need to take this other weeder course or a higher math or science to get to my goal. *winces at the biology and human phys needed for a BSW at Ferris State* - It's doable, just it will be a challenge.

Chi 02-05-2010 02:27 AM

Yeah... what Steel said.

Getting your foot in the door is crucial though, like you say Izumi. And things like math and English, they should transfer just fine. Art, too. If you can get some History, grab that. I don't know what your curriculum is like though. You probably have all that planned anyway. :XD

Even though I'm a candidate for a BA that would allow me to be a BHP, I still had tons and tons of cores that everyone has to do. Lots of history, art, (not so much Math--just Algebra and Statistics), Zoology...

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:29 AM

Why do they make you take so many 'weeder' courses though? I don't mind to a certain degree I guess but as I said I don't like the 'cold hard' science/math classes that Aaron would just eat up.

He probably thinks the same of some of the courses I absolutely adore - world religions, psych, ethics. Mmmm.

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:30 AM

And you know what? If you need any help with and Bio course, you come to me. Because THAT IS MY FREAKING DEGREE! Haha. Also, I taught a portion of my Zoology class.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:30 AM

I LOVE YOU STEEL!!! *BIGMASSIVEHUG*

Aaron cannot help me there. He says Math, Physics, yes....Biology, Phys, Zology FORGETABOUTIT! :XD

Chi 02-05-2010 02:33 AM

I also bitched about that when I had to do Stats. :XD "Why do I have to do this when someone needing help isn't going to want me to tell them this or that formula is the root of blah GRAAAAAAAAGH!!"

It was a bad semester. >>b

Oooh, Ethics. I forgot that was a core, too. Intro to Psych, Intro to Sociology, those should transfer and be offered anywhere, too. I'm all excited now and don't know why.

Sadly, I need to get to bed. I have a meeting on campus at 9am, and then another meeting at DHHS after to finish up my MaineCare application. This baby needs insurance! D: See you guys later.

Fauxreal 02-05-2010 02:34 AM

I would like to have become a counselor - but I get really emotional. I'd take everything people say and internalize it to much.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:34 AM

Awww night night Chi!! Take it easy and thanks for the chat. Tell Kin I send my love to him, too. :XP

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:35 AM

Goodnight, Chi! (And I totally enjoyed stats, even though it was only required by *one* of the vet schools I applied to, haha).

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:36 AM

Chi should hear me over any type of math...("Torture! Torture! Why do they make my brain hurt so with these formulas and rules and horrible horrible numbers! *insert random swearwords here*")

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:41 AM

Stats is....different. There is a lot of consulting charts and whatnot. If you can get through genetics, you can get through stats.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:48 AM

Oh god. Genetics....sounds like an interesting course. To say the very least.

We touched on it ever so briefly in high school and even then it was very complex.

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:52 AM

Genetics, Physiology of Reproduction, and Zoology were my absolute *favorite* courses in undergrad. I could do those courses all dang day and be happy as a clam.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:53 AM

I felt myself ever so tempted to be a smart ass, but I can't...since it's you and I want to be on your good side if I ever need to ask for help in those fields. :XD

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 02:55 AM

*snicker* Noooo worries. I have made just about every smartass comment imaginable about me liking those courses. You have to be able to laugh if you're going to talk about bull penises in the middle of a coffee shop with the Dean of Students of your CONSERVATIVE Church of Christ college sitting behind you. Oh man were those fun times.

Izumi 02-05-2010 02:56 AM

BUAHAHAHA. *snorts but not really, more like huge ass grin from ear to ear*

God sex is great. :XD

Edit: So you must of really been at home when we got on the topic of turtle love. *nudges playfully* :XD

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 03:02 AM

Heck yes it is. Hehehe. Heck yeah, man! I was *cough* in my niche.

Izumi 02-05-2010 03:04 AM

Maybe there is a calling for you. Perhaps you're the next Dr. Ruth. :XD

steelmagghia 02-05-2010 03:06 AM

Hehehe, *snicker* Dr. Ruth of the animal world? That sounds dodgy. Guess I'll be working with dolphins, then. :P

Izumi 02-05-2010 03:09 AM

Well it's a shame they're not capable of higher thought, or you would be in heaven. I'm trying to mentally picture this image of like two of say any animal come to your office and ask you for sex advice. I'm wondering if that's a sign it's bedtime or I should watch what I'm eating. :P

Edit: I'm sure TLC or Animal Planet would consider it to make an interesting show though. :XD
