Pixel Art/Sprites; I would love advice.
Yah. This is my first attempt.
http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...r/PixelArt.png Second two: I lightened the hair between the white bg and the blue one; i thought that it was too much of a contrast. http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...ucardPixel.png http://i106.photobucket.com/albums/m...dPixelcopy.png Comments? Critiques? Compliments? Helpful advice? Everything's appreciated. |

Okay. I'm having problems working with something so tiny--but I love the sprites that I've seen (from other people), so I try.
I think I get what you mean by "flowing". And I definitely see the shading thing. |
Ooh~ Great job with the lines!
I think this is the first time I've seen someones first attempt with good clean lines! HURRAY! I think the next step for you is to try shading more and maybe darken the outlines. For the shading, try not to go too light with the shadows. A nice darker shade will give it convincing form~ In my opinion shading hair is one of the hardest parts, but I find it the most fun part of pixelling. I like to stress individual stands of hair and when highlighting the hair I like to use a lighter shade of the hair colour plus a but of a different colour. I makes the hair super-pretty ^^ Ooh~ For orbs and other pretty crystals etc~ I don't shade right to the outline. I leave a thin line between the outline and the shading. I like to dither with orbs rather than use heaps of shades. I'm not very good at explaining so if you don't understand anything feel free to ask and I can pixel something up quick to show you what I mean~ Great first attempt~ Keep practising! ;) |
I like it. I think it looks promising for a first attempt. Yes, do keep practicing. :D

I usualy find that working small makes it easier. X'D *hates coloring in big spaces*
But yeah. Try shading it abit. And instead of doing classical sprite shading, maybe add in some different color shades and lights. [Like purple or green...] I usualy when I'm drawing sprites work from the outside in. I do the line art, fill it in with the base color and then make a general flat shade [Darker then the skin color by only abit], then another but closer to the lines [abit darker then the last.] and then keep going [ect...]. [Don't make your colors when shading too far apart or they look too blocky.] Uhh... I think I know of a good tutorial. I'll have to go dig it up somewhere. *hasn't used one in ages.* |
Okay--shading. GAHSOTINY! *is over it*
@Abused mule: I like the bigger spaces just because I've got more room--the shading's easier. Purple and green light... *thinks on this* Okay. A tutorial would be great, if you can find one. <3 @LoneHana: I think I get what you mean with the orbs/crystals... And the hair. Doing it? That I might have difficulty with, but I understand what you're saying. As far as skin goes... *shrugs* My problem is that with pale skin, it seems like there'll be an obvious outline, or there'll be no outline... D: I'll try it again with a darker tone, though. @Allucard: I'll try YOU next. :D |

yes, I agree that you should work on shadowing.
the face is really blurry because the skin colour is so light and eyes are small.. :3 but pretty good start ^^ |
I like the wings. ^^ But I agree, you should add some shading and make it more.... colorful, somehow. xD
Nice job though. :D |
@Abused Mule:Thank you for the tutorial and refs.
@Sagitar: Thank you; the face is where I felt weakest (especially the eyes--and then I realized it had no mouth). @suppi: Thank you. I like the wings, too, looking at it again. More colorful. Hmm... Edit: @Allucard: You switched genders! You bastard! Now I have to find my picture that I think I saved somewhere of you! |
