  • So. This is my... third? attempt at a MS Paint drawing.

    GOD HOW I LIKE THE CRISPINESS AND ROUGHNESS OF PAINT! Crisp crisp crisp.

ive been working in there lately too
trying to improve my skills.

overall i think its great!
but maybe do a bit more with the face?

    Yes, I know the face is minimal, but that was kind of the idea x__x I really think a nose and lips would ruin it-- or just that I couldn't pull it off without ruining the drawing.

It's funny you mention loving the crispness of paint, because I feel the same way! People are always like "sorry for this being in paint" but it's one of my favorite mediums really. xD It has such a unique quality.

I for one love the down-turned face. It gives it mood. I hope you post more. :]

    The face is my only (slight)problem.
    It's kind of hard to see.
    But maybe you intended it that way?

I concur. I think adding anything, or over-defining it would take away from the body language. Love the shading on the stomach.

    @delial- Yes, it's my favorite program of all.. People complain it's simple and that, but just look at all the stunning images good artists can do in it! Also, I noticed, at least in my experience, if a person is talented, they do good with any program. (I am SO not talking about myself 8D;;; )
    I'm mean, but I don't consider smudging, burning and dodging to be very "skilful". In my -personal- opinion, even the crappiest shading done by hand looks better.

    @Nightmare- oooo, that made my cheeks turn hot from the flattery o3o Yes, though, I did want to make the date in color at the bottom, but decided against it. Harrr. The face is kind of minimal on its own, I admit, but I liked the idea of slapping my signature on her face so much.. I guess since I know what is where- haha, I drew it!- I can't tell what's hard to see @[email protected] But! at least it makes people stare at my pictar :D;;;;

    @Penny- Thaaaanks o2o I thought maybe I made the wrong choice with the face, but it DID look bad with more than just the eyelids (In my mind >> )

Much better than I could draw on Paint. I love the emo-ness aspect. I think maybe you should clean up the chin a bit though, since I first mistaked it as a mouth(but then I was like, noooo, 'course not, ish just silly). I really like the monotone coloring and especially the roughness of the sketch. The eyes look pretty nice too. I think what it needs is maybe more of the scarf she's wearing? I mean, I think you'd see it from behind her or something? But again, it's better than I draw with a mouse.

I actually find Paint to be a great art program, it's fun to do so much with so little. <3

Very nice drawing, I especially love the hair. The crispness of Paint really helped to make it more textured and give it that nice shine. :3

    @Hyde- Yes, I think programs like Paint are good for testing out how much talent you actually have! @[email protected]

    @Sutorumie- That's actually a turtle neck 8) Just colored heavier than the cuffs and the hem.

    @Rensing- Thanks :3 Indeed, I, too, adore Paint. It makes you work that noddle of yours and come up with ideas, by not having all those fancy features of 'modern' programs. *obviously can't handle all the layers and shiny buttons, and is bitter about it u3u*

Good point. I have great faith that photoshop can make ANY picture look good with a few simple clicks. Filter it through some random art thing and poof! You're scribble is a work of art. MS Paint isn't half so forgiving.

I'm being harsh, but I've seen some hideous sketches on art sites, half-assed and not even cleaned up, BUT wrapped up in fancy backgrounds with space, stars, sparkles, candy and unicorns- all that awesome! stuff to the point where the sketch and its shittiness wasn't even visible anymore! So is that the idea?

    I'm not dissing the users of these programs, but it is easy to miss anatomical mistakes or other flaws when a picture is sooooo perfect and smooth and pretty and-- WHOA! Third arm! :o

    Why does the shiny impress us? :(

I's pretty funny really. In a sad sort of way.
I guess the shiny is impressive because it was so hard to get for so long. Computer graphics meant some serious skills for a while there.

Precisely. Using the programs doesn't make you bad (though I myself feel a bit like I'm cheating sometimes). And even though bad art does look good with the stuff, the true fantastic art still sticks out like a sore thumb. A really pretty sore thumb. Thank. Goodness.

  • When I use openCanvas, I always feel bad if I want to use the 'blur' tool. It's like a weird taboo. The spot just sticks out so badly for me afterwards. I just look at the drawing and think "It's right here. Everyone can see, everyone can see how you cheated. Slacker, slacker." :x

    Though I prefer rougher art, obviously. Visible brush strokes, the texture of paper- if it's traditional art, that kind of stuff. Makes it both human and even more amazing at the same time. Smooth drawings are too perfect @[email protected] They look like a machine made em, and.. well, I can't compete with my computer and neither can I really relate to drawing flawlessly and seamlessly, so I'm jealous. Of the machine's work. Harhar. :lol:

I know. I so obsess over the ethics of tool use in art. It's kind of silly. But really... it makes me think, is art about the product, or the process?
I'd like to say the process, but if there's an easier way to get the same results it makes sense to take it.

I think I'm a sucker for the human touch too. I love being able to see the thoughts behind the art. I love being able to look into the artists head and say 'oh... he thinks in short hard lines when he draws'.

Oh I know! Heehee. Computer jealousy. First it was rival artists. Now we envy the very tools we use. What an odd species we are. ^^

  • I think the audience likes the product, the artist likes the process :D I personally like the '5minutes after finishing' period where I randomly look at the freshly baked drawing again and again and fill up with tingly warm butterflies. In my stomach. (Could be acid, I dunno. >> )

    Then again it feels bad because once I 'end' on a piece, I'll never touch it again, and that is when I start seeing all kinds of flaws :B

    Oh, come on, seriously. Do you read my mind? Admit it. Admit it! Are you my separated-at-birth twin? Sister of faith? Bought half of my brain on the black market? >O

That makes sense.

That turning point moment. Oh so exciting but oh so frightening. I had a gorgeous face plotted out at that mark the other day. It looked so promising then, but didn't turn out... sadness. I'll just have to try again.

I'm seeing them all the time EXCEPT for when I'm actually working on it. I miss things when I've been staring at it for too long. That's when I have to get online and run it by some fresh eyes.

I guess we're just sisters in art. Unified in common goal in finding... truth? beauty? Rather... finding a way to get that little nanometer piece of the picture look just so. ^^

  • It feels like I live to draw- with all imperfections and bad anatomy and no shading skills and whatever that might apply. But sometimes I just can't stand it, and so God help me if I find a piece of paper. I would... rip it in my wrath!

    Yeah, taking a break and looking at your work with 'new' eyes is a great advice. How come I never use it? I forget to. >>

    The common goal of finding the truthful beauty of a just so looking nanometer piece of a picture!

    @aonith- That is kind of the idea :D I was somewhat down at the moment I started drawing it, but I swear the drawing has nothing to do with me or my emotions. I think all that was running through my head was "Hurr hurr, pretty hips, pretty ass. :9"
    I also don't like emo. D:
