School Subject Thread

just wondering what subjects in school you happen to either like or dislike?

the school subjects i enjoy studying are english and history. i do really well in both these courses, and am fascinated by both subjects especially in regards to writing.

my least liked subjects are math, science, and physical education. mostly physical education because i'm not athletic at all, uncoordinated, and when i want exercise, i'd rather do physical exercise that i enjoy at home. science i am really terrible at, and math i'm actually good at, i just dislike it.

so what school subjects do you like/dislike?

  • i like english and science.
    i'm good at math,
    but i think it's boring.

i hate history cause it's boring to me. D:

  • I love physical education. From the pools to the football field, I loved every stitch of that class. I wish I could take it over and over, but, I have to keep up a hefty schedule if I wanna get into medical school. :[

I hate English. But maybe that's cause my teacher's a betch.

  • I like my landscaping class. In highschool I liked my art history class.
And I also like math, science classes similar to biology and marine biology.

I dislike courses in structures and mechanical systems that I have to take because I don't understand them that well. xD!

Anglie 11-25-2007 02:19 PM

I love all the sujects, mainly math/algebra/geometry except Literature/English/Language arts. I've never done well in L.A or anything like that.
I always get good grads (A's and A+'s) in the other subjects. But I love math.

Clair Voyant 11-25-2007 02:21 PM

I love history! I don't like American History so much, but I still enjoy learning history!

Divine_lil_brat 11-25-2007 03:09 PM

I can't stand science but I like art class and dance. Math is okay but just keep me away from science and we'll all do fine.

  • I think all subjects are really interesting, but some I don't find quite interesting enough to study and take exams from. I'd love to go to lectures on almost anything, granted I could understand the subject well enough.
I've always liked languages a lot, arts is alright although I'm not too fond of restrictions in art, even if they are important if you want to learn anything from it. :Ð
I've never been too good with science, I don't like it particularly much and that's probably why I don't do too well at it. (I still find it interesting!) And I've never been fond of sports, I don't think we should be forced to do sports after we finish primary school. Or at the very least after we turn 18. I think we are old enough then to handle our bodies by ourselves.

Right now I'm studying English at the uni and I have to say I like my phonetics and linguistics classes the most, they really fascinate me. British literature is really great too, but I don't like the teacher too much. She's really nice and helpful but her accent is.. ugghh. But my British cultural history teacher completely fails at making the subject interesting. He reminds me of Professor Binns from Harry Potter, and his classes are on Tuesday mornings. So I'm usually half-asleep.

  • My favourite subjects would be any foreign languages. So far I've learnt varying amounts of French, Japanese and Spanish, and I've loved learning each one. I like words, I can't explain it much better than that. X'3

I also used to like maths and sciences, although I no longer take them. Of the sciences, I like physics the most although I found it really frustrating as, although I enjoyed it, I just couldn't get my brain to grasp some of the most basic principles. I still like to read books or articles on physics from time to time, though. :3

As for my least favourite subject, that was history, although it wasn't the subject that I disliked - no, it was the teacher and his particular teaching methods. Somehow he just managed to distil everything down to its least interesting parts, and I only kept getting A's because I read the interesting stuff outside of what he taught us. :|

The subject that I'd most like to learn is psychology - I've always felt a little mystified by the way my brain works, and the way other people work too . Psychology would be interesting for me because it'd build on my occasional hobby of people-watching, and I think I'd learn more about myself (even if I might learn things that I don't want to know.)

I study Computer Science and enjoy Math a lot. My least favorite subjects are English and Physical Education. PE is because I would try really hard to succeed in the sports and physical testing we had but I just couldn't.

I don't like English classes because we read really depressing books and dissect them and I'm pretty sure that some of the hidden meanings we find weren't part of the book or the author's intention. They trick you to think that your interpretation is what's important and when you write about what you think something means and its not what the professor thinks, your version is automatically incorrect.

I hated P.E. classes too. xD I'm lazy and hated
getting all sweaty. ;x bleh

I loved all my English classes and computer classes.
I hated math. Even though I got good grades in math,
I hate how if you do one thing wrong, the whole problem
gets messed up and you have to go back and re-do it. :[

[L]ove[H]ate 11-26-2007 12:46 AM

I love science, and dislike algebra.

Aeronwyn 11-26-2007 12:52 AM

I'm at uni now so I only have one subject, if I didn't like it that would really suck! :)

At school my favourite subjects were History, German, and politics.
I couldn't stand maths and English; they were both so boring.
xXx

kimu 11-26-2007 12:55 AM

I love history and english, and I hate chemistry with a huge passion, since our teacher never explains anything anymore and just yells at us like he used to D :

  • Oh yeah, I hated that about high school/college, teachers would often tell you were wrong with your interpretation of a text. Which is actually wrong on their behalf, an interpretation cannot be wrong. It can seem silly, or even stupid to some, but it cannot be wrong. Interpretation is always open.
(Of course, in high school/college, it's more about testing if you have been paying attention in class than anything else.)

I liked math, physical ed (mainly because of archery), biology, physics, and and and yeah. Physics was fun cause we learned so much useless things and useful things.

Rainiy 11-26-2007 12:57 AM

I love my Japanese class <3 Both for the subject and the class -- I also love English, but only as a subject, and not so much as a class this year or last. I also generally love choir, but not as much this year. It's because I'm better at singing solo (I like to stylize my singing and it's hard for me to try and blend my voice with everybdoy else), and I feel sort of out of the loop since I don't know the other members as well.

I loved art class when I did that a couple years ago, too. I took it for a semester -- even though it wasn't very... helpful, I had a lot of fun. I want to be an artist and singer and writer when I'm older (God, yes I can be realistic d= I'll probably end up a lounge singer or something, gawd. o_o )

In any case <3 Japanese is just a lot of fun. I'm always learning something new, and we're all really good friends too, so it's a win-win situation.

Edit: I guess the classes I don't like... Well, almost all of them. School just isn't that great this year, apart from Japanese. Too many memories, too few friends. It's tiring, I guess. Math is terrible this year though, because I can't understand it and I've missed a couple days and it's just totally overwhelming.

nike13 11-26-2007 12:59 AM

@ljosberinn
My profs would have us read a few chapters and write something about them for the next lecture, then grade us and explain the 'correct' interpretation of the text. All those books ended up making me want to jump off a building or run into a moving vehicle though, everything was so depressing.

Elemental Cotton 11-26-2007 01:00 AM

Hmm, my favorite subjects in school would have to be English, Language Arts, and of course, Art! ;D

Math used to be one of my favorite subjects, but after I got into high school and started taking geometry, I hated it. Now that I'm taking Math Analysis, I'm starting to like it again, but that's probably because I've been studying and actually know what to do. XD

There's only one subject I hate, and that's History. :/

  • See, to me, that seems really strange. Maybe I just had some good English teachers, but I was never told the "correct" interpretation of a text.

When we had to write essays on books or poems, it worked on the basis that we could make whatever points we wanted as long as they were reasonable and were backed up with evidence from the text. When we discussed the texts, anything the students came up with was treated the same as what the teachers told us.

I usually love englush,
but this year Im in English 10 Accelerated, and my teacher is crazy!
I love my French III even though I have french.
My teacher is awesome in there!
And I hate my computer course.
Its full of freshman who can't get their hears out of their . . . hindparts, shut up, and listen to the teacher.
but worst of all, geometry
*shudder*

b e y o n d 11-26-2007 01:58 AM

  • @KNOX: Oh, I can empathise with the dislike of geometry. I used to be absolutely terrible at it because I have terrible spatial awareness and find it hard to imagine even 2D shapes accurately in my head. ^u^;; Trigonometry was my worst enemy for 5 years~ XD Every time I worked really hard and finally understood how to apply this or that formula, it'd just get more difficult and I'd have a bunch of new formulae to struggle with. D:

KNOX 11-26-2007 02:04 AM

@ b e y o n d : Ive been bad at math since kindergarden ( i looked at my first report a few months ago )

I can write you an essay, I can make a project, I can drwa you pretty much anything if I try, and I can write a history paper, and raise my hand every two minutes with history answers, but I can not do math!

It is my nightmare!

Karine 11-26-2007 02:17 AM

i hate English/Literature/etc., and i love Science and Music. :3
