Thursday--Not just my favorite day of the week

Thursday isn't really that much of a famous band, but their music is very good, and has a lot of depth to it.

The singer is very cool.. He writes amazing songs, he's had some pretty hard times... Here's a link to their lyrics(The most accurate ones I could find):
Lyrics

My favorite songs are "Steps Ascending" and "Understanding a Car crash". Steps Ascending is about the singer's friend dying. It was an unexpected death, I've heard that the guy was killed, or killed himself. I'm not sure which one. I think the first though. Overall the song is beautiful...And in one of the videos he actually ends up crying at the end.. It's very sad.

Here's a link to the video:
Live

And here's one to the lyrics:
Steps Ascending

Any other fans out there? Or have I convinced anyone to be a fan? Oh and if you watch the video, watch all of it. There's a slight pause but it'll get there.

Things to discuss:
~Thursday
~Their Lyrics
~The singer
~Concerts
~Anything that relates to the band.

Geoff insulted my city when I went to go see him in concert... Truthfully, I've never thought of them the same again because it seemed like he was only insulting it because half of those who came to my city came out of town and no one liked it.

I mean, I'm being kinda childish about it, but dude. You don't go to New York and then tell the crowd that New York freakin' sucks. XD

I don't listen to anything past the War All The Time album, but I do still love that and the stuff before it... I think Jet Black New Year is my favorite song. *nodnod*

padfootsy 12-04-2007 10:44 PM

I really like Thursday =]
My ex boyfriend introduced me to their music, and I liked them instantly!

I have two CD's, War All The Time, and Full Collapse

The next time they're in San Diego I plan on seeing them.

Really? Well, Green Day gets away with telling their fans that, so I think Thursday should be able to. When I went to see Geoff Rickly in concert in GrandRapids, he loved us. Maybe he went to New York right after, and didn't like it as much. Lol*is joking* but yeah, he even did a few encores for us.

He reads the crowd well, and if they don't like his music, he's personally insulted. His stuff came from the heart, it's not one of those stupid made up songs on the spot... *shrugs*

Oh, I figured out why he said it. He grew up around newyork. So I guess he sort of hates it since his friend died. He saw a guy jump off a building. And his girlfriend broke up with him there.

@Padfootsy
Oh cool. Hopefully the crowd won't be too loud. Some fans sing, and if the speakers aren't good you can't hear the band well -_-'' But yeah, they are great ^^

Oh, no, you misunderstood! XD And I was misleading. @.@ I don't live in New York, I live in Memphis, Tennessee. I was making an analogy, 'cause New Yorkers are generally very proud of their city. ^^;;; But, I mean, it's okay, but I felt a little insulted myself. (In the way that, "Hey, I can talk shit about Memphis, but if you don't live here, get the hell over it. XD) He did read the crowd very well, but just the majority of it and not my friends and I who just kind of sighed and told him to shut up and sing. XD

Clavietika Tres Ojos 12-06-2007 06:04 PM

I love Thursday. I can't think of my favorite song at the moment...maybe "Marches and Maneuvers" or "I Am The Killer" or "Autumn Leaves Revisited."
I've only seen them once live which sucks. I think they put on a really good show. The crowd was intense and I almost suffocated to death but it was worth it. XD

fuyumi_saito 12-06-2007 07:53 PM

@Britti
Ah.. Well then, lol.. I don't know what to say to that. XD

@Clavie
They have a lot of good songs *nods* I don't like the smokey crowded sweaty part about going to concerts.

Risque 12-06-2007 11:07 PM

Mmm, really good band. I love "Understanding in a Car Crash", "Telegraph Avenue Kiss", and "Paris in Flames."

The lyrics that Geoff writes are just awesome. Not like you normal awesome, but the full of awe-type of awesome.

I've always wanted to see them live, and they were in my area a month ago with Portugal. The Man, and Circle Takes the Square, but it was on a schoolday. ;-;

I wanna see them on New Years Eve at the Starland.

I missed that show as well. I wanted to go soooo bad but yeah, school day and I couldn't afford to screw it up. Think I had an exam the next day.

I'm a huge Portugal. The Man fan so that would have been a sweet show to attend.

That would be cool. I hope they come back to Michigan sometime...I looked at their site, and the only place they are going right now is new jersey. I think..

As for Geoff and his songs- They are the best EVER. He writes from the heart, and is very poetic. I look up to him as a writer. He's just fantastic. By far one of the best song writers ever. I just wish he would get more you kno credit for his songs.

Like win awards. But of course, famous people decide who win, and Thursday isn't too famous. i wish someone would nominate them. I think it would be cool. Geoff really deserves it. He's such a cool laid back guy. ^^, though he's had a hard life. I hope he has a good future though.

Risque 12-07-2007 11:18 PM

@ Clavietika: It was a pretty sweet line-up, though I couldn't possible imagine Portugal with Thursday..
Sucks that we missed it.

@ Fuyumi: Yep, they're playing at New Jersey with Circa Survive. C:
Thursday deserves a lot more..but I think they're fine the way they are now, they get proper recognition among those who know them.
What's funny is that my local TV station showed Thursday on tv once, but it was for a story on "Emo" culture. -______-
HOW DARE YOU CONFUSE THURSDAY FOR BEING EMO. /dies

They played about 5 seconds of "At this Velocity" and me first seeing it was like, "Oh my god! IT'S THURSDAY, on TV."

fuyumi_saito 12-07-2007 11:34 PM

lol. Yeah, their songs are hardcore/original emo. The new emo is poor me junk, and they don't do that. I don't know what they'd be considered now, since labels on music change.

The only bad things that could happen by them becoming famous, is all of them dying, or being forced by contracts to write stupid songs, or they could end up being less respectful towards their fans. They love their fans ^^

Risque 12-07-2007 11:47 PM

Thursday is too cool for an ordinary label. They've been called screamo, post-hardcore and a slew of others, I'm too lazy to find a label for everything I listen to.

The thought of Thursday leaving is most depressing...
I think they'll always stay humble, appreciative and that they won't be their record label's bitch. C:
they've gone through too much shit with Victory already. xD
I'm surprised they even decided to release "Kill the House Lights" with Victory..

Clavietika Tres Ojos 12-08-2007 02:17 AM

@C.S. Me neither but I wasn't complaining. Two of my favorite bands in the same room and at one of my favorite venues. XD

How is Kill The House Lights anyway? I haven't had the chance to pick it up yet.

Eileanora 12-08-2007 03:15 AM

wow, there's actually a thursday
thread xD

but yes, i too love this band,
geoff has got a voice on him, and his
lyrics are beautiful.

my personal favorite would have to
be autumn leaves revisited =]

fuyumi_saito 12-08-2007 05:44 AM

@Circa
Yeah, you're probably right. They are too cool for a normal label. One of them broke their instrument on stage, well..At the only concert I've been to. It was fun I guess, but it must have cost a lot to replace it. ^^

Victory loves Thursday though, so maybe that's why they've stuck around for a bit. In an interview, Geoff said they might sign with another label in the upcoming year.

I think you're right about them staying humble. They don't really seem like the type to get big heads. They love their fans, so I don't think they'll ever end up loving themselves more XD... I just hope nothing like that ever happens though. They're very good..

@Eileanora

Yes, a thread dedicated to Thursday <3.. I was a bit surprised seeing that they didn't have one. So I made one. I love them, even though I would never marry any of them...(Personal reasons) They are the one of the nicest, coolest guys out there though. ^^

Geoff is a creative genius. I hope to spread the love of his music everywhere...Well..Almost everywhere. lol.

I have not heard autumn leaves yet. I'll check out the lyrics though. I'm sure it's good.

Risque 12-08-2007 06:57 AM

@ Clavietika: Totally. xD

KTHL is pretty good, I didn't like the first track very much, I'm sure it would sound better on CD though, since my version of Kill the House Lights was a myspace rip. :C
But everything on its pretty good, the last few tracks are demos, live tracks, and a remix of Telegraph Avenue Kiss, which I actually liked more than the original.
The Roar of Far off Jet Blacks - Very good track. C:

@ Fuyumi: Haha, mad skills must've killed the instrument pretty badly. :o
I really do hope Thursday change labels, no Island or Victory. Victory has horrid bands on their roster, and Island doesn't allow streaming of their band's songs. Which sucks cause I currently don't own A City By the Light Divided. :'C

Mmhmm. I'd like to think of it in this way, good band - good music
Crap band members - crap music.

fuyumi_saito 12-08-2007 05:04 PM

Yeah, probably XD

Hmm. Island wasn't mentioned in his interview. This really weird name was though, that he seemed interested in. It was like.. somethingfish or something like that... >_<' Don't remember.

~Anyway, I read the lyrics to Autumn leaves fall revisited. It was very good, I wonder how it sounds when they play it. Unfortunately my speakers are broken so I won't be hearing it on youtube or anything like that anytime soon.

Risque 12-08-2007 07:26 PM

I'm thinking he said Equal Vision? I sure hope so. <_< >_>

I haven't found any good quality videos of Autumn Levaes on Youtube. D:

fuyumi_saito 12-09-2007 03:37 AM

Well.. They are probably mostly live and shot by someone who was in the crowd XD I don't know how some people get good footage at concerts...

Risque 12-11-2007 03:38 AM

Me neither, but I suppose the really tall people can manage. xD

fuyumi_saito 12-11-2007 03:12 PM

Yeah...Too bad I'm so short -_-

Eileanora 12-12-2007 06:12 AM

@fuyumi. autumn leaves is such a beautiful song, i don't see how anyone can NOT like it =]

fuyumi_saito 12-13-2007 06:46 PM

Yes, well..I've read the lyrics. it's very pretty. I just wonder what it sounds like *speakers are broken*
