The tower was the tallest building in the city. It overlooked it like a guard, watchful of what occurred within the walls. But it also peered over the vast stone walls to rolling hills and wooded areas. The way the sunlight danced over the fields of waving grass made it look like glowing emeralds. The sun would be setting soon, and he could only imagine the vast array of colors the view would amaze them with.
|
Emma looked up at the tower as they approached it, gasping a little. "Oh wow... This place? The view must be so beautiful up there!" She smiled even more when they headed up looking amazed by the view. "Oh Denzell..."
|
He smiled, glad she was enjoying it. He brushed off a place for them to sit and watch as the skies darken from the bright blue to violets and reds. Eventually the stars would be out, and he could imagine just how lovely that would be. Somehow, it made him lonely to watch the sky. Yet it was so pretty...
|
Emma smiled as she leaned against Denzell where they sat, watching the sun set slowly. It was so beautiful, she was enjoying this so much... just sitting there with him. She rested her head in against his arm, nuzzling him briefly.
"This is beautiful, Denzell... Thanks for showing me." She said gently, looking up at the man with a warm smile. The stars were already showing and the last of the sun was slipping down beyond the horizon. |
Moving his arm around her, he patted her shoulder lightly, trying to keep it friendly. He was scared of how she would react. Would she be reminded of the guy back in the hamlet? Perhaps the man at Jordahn? He resented them for the horrible crimes they committed.
|
Emma seemed to trust Denzell, relaxing in against him. He was her friend, he'd never do anything horrible like that to her, she knew that. Slowly, she wrapped an arm slightly around his back, sighing out gently. "It's so beautiful. I love it out here, Denzell." She said gently, looking out over the view. She spotted the ring on the man's finger and her hand gently took the man's hand, tapping at it a bit. "What's this, Denzell?"
|
"Hm?"
His eyes gazed down. He had forgotten all about it and why he had gotten it in the first place. Not finding anything to say about it, he just shrugged as he tried to recollect where it had come from. |
Emma smiled as she looked at it, slowly sliding it off of the man's little finger to look at it closer in the moonlight. "It's pretty." She commented, sliding it onto a finger of her own slightly to look it over without worrying about dropping it, rotating it slowly. She seemed to really like it, finding it quite fascinating. Had Denzell gotten this for a girl? It seemed like it wasn't very fitting for a man like him to wear... but perhaps Dominic and Arturo were right and there had been a woman? Perhaps he'd met someone here!
She sighed at that and gently slid it back onto the man's finger, looking out at the sky again as she leaned back in against Denzell to relax. She didn't want to admit that the thought of him being with anyone else bothered her somehow. |
"Do you want it?" Denzell asked hesitantly. He wasn't sure if she'd be interested in it. He slid it from his pinky and put it on hers. "I think it's more fitting for a girl anyways," he added with a chuckle.
|
Emma found herself blushing when it was given to her like that, carefully slipping it from her pinky since it was a bit too large for her finger, trying each finger until she found the best fit, sliding it onto her right ring finger. "Are you sure...? Oh Denzell, you're so sweet." She smiled and shifted to give the man a kiss to the corner of his lips, holding at his chest a bit for balance. "Thank you." She murmured, nuzzling into him with a content sigh.
|
He smiled, so glad she actually liked it. It seemed so plain the more he looked at it. But it was a pretty addition to a delicate hand. Maybe he had intended it was for her afterall. Feeling over a lock of her hair, he gazed out at the view, trying to hide his flushed cheeks.
|
Emma closed her eyes a moment as she felt him touch her hair, still close to him. She leaned over and drew the hand with the ring on it over his face, cupping over that cheek before she pressed in for a kiss to his lips, closing her green eyes. She was a little nervous, but this was okay... She was starting this intimacy-it was nothing like those other men... those rapists.
|
He was quite shy about this show of affection. Returning it softly, yet briefly, his cheeks flushed a bright hue. There was something deep within him making him emotional about romantic contact. He couldn't place what it was or why. But the feel of her lips was sparking it, breaking the barrier that dammed his sadness and let it spill without mercy.
With watered eyes, he looked away, ashamed of all these questionable feelings he had. |
Emma looked at Denzell as he reacted, furrowing her brow. She'd misread him? Swallowing hard, she pulled away and sat back again. "I'm sorry... I shouldn't have done that." She whispered, looking down before sighing, pressing over the fabric of her dress over her legs. She'd have blamed it on the alcohol, but she'd more or less sobered up since she hadn't drank but half of it.
|
"No, it's not..." How could he explain it? There were so many problems he was having with emotions. Something was scaring him beyond comprehension. The man...the man he saw in the crowds. And the feel of his lips against a woman's...
"I just don't understand why I keep feeling...odd. It must have...something to do with what happened to me before I was in the dungeon," he murmured. |
"I wish I could help you, Denzell." She sighed out, shifting to wrap her arms around him, hugging him close and she burried her face in against his chest.
|
"I'm sorry," he murmured, "I ruined this."
His eyes turned down. "Do you want to return now? Or..." his voice drifted as he looked out, hoping to see some stars beginning to make their appearance in the blanket of darkening skies. |
"No.. No, you didn't. It's still perfect." She replied with a gentle smile, looking out at the sky a moment. "Let's stay here a while." She whispered, shifting to take his hand and give it a gentle kiss, stroking it slowly with her thumb.
"Let's... keep this between just us, okay?" She added, kissing his hand again and touching it to her cheek. |
He looked a little surprised by the proposition. "Keep it between us?" He added in a teasing tone, "Are you ashamed of me, Ems?"
Denzell could sympathize. He had too many issues he needed to sort out to be wanted. |
Emma blinked and blushed, chuckling as she leaned into him more. "No, it's nothing like that. I just think... It might make Arturo uncomfortable." She replied, kissing at his hand again before she looked out at the sky.
"Ah! Look, Denzell, the stars are starting to show." |
Denzell felt that Arturo was already aware of the playful behavior between them. He had been there when they had danced and briefly exchanged a peck.
His eyes turned out to the night sky and watched them glisten. For some reason, he found it comforting and quite peaceful. But it wasn't long before their calming persuasion led him to slumber. |
Emma blinked a few times when she realized Denzell had fallen asleep and she smiled, giving his cheek a gentle kiss. She sat there and continued to watch the sky for a while before she gently tried to wake the man.
"Denzell... Denzell, let's head back to the inn, we can sleep in the bed then." She spoke softly, brushing a hand over the man's cheek as she tried to stir him. |
Despite her persistance, the man slept on till dawn. All of the stress and worry that compounded within him throughout the past few days had faded from his mind just briefly, allowing him to rest. He was stiff when he awoken, but was still very much like his usual self. From his lips he murmured a "M'hungry."
|
Emma frowned and sighed, settling back down with him and she leaned against the man gently. She wasn't going to leave him out there all alone, curling up with him and allowing herself to fall asleep as well after a while. She'd tried her best to stay awake, but the fight was lost just an hour before Denzell stirred.
When the man mumbled those words, the young woman hardly even moved a muscle, she was still fast asleep. |
Sitting up, Denzell rubbed his eyes. "Where..." His eyes looked out to the view then at the sleeping girl. It confused him until he remembered taking her out to the tower to admire the view. Sighing, he got up and stretched, moving around to get some blood circulating in his tired body. Feeling the need to return back to the inn for a soft place to sleep and warm food, he picked up Emma and carried her.
