"YO DAWG"

Where the fuck did "dawg" come from?

Somebody just decided to call people dogs?
But, no, not a dog, it's spelled different! D:<
It's dawg.

:|

I was on the phone to a friend and we were getting another friend to go 3 way chat.
Anyway, he gets on, and just says "YO DAWG. WATZ UP MY HOMIE?"
I laughed. He normally doesn't act like that, just being dumb I guess.
And then my friend's all "What am I, a dawg or your homie?"
HIM: "UR MY HOMIE DAWG."
ME: (more laughing)
HER: "That doesn't make sense."
HIM: "FER REALZ? YO I THOUGHT I WAS DA BOMB D8"
ME: (more laughing)
HER: "SHUT UP! And no, if you were a bomb you'd explode."
HIM: "Kaboom?"
HER: "That wasn't real."
HIM: "Fine then."
HER: "...I win."
HIM: (insert real kaboom noise found on internet)
HER: "Yay, he blew up!"
ME: (silence because I'm suppose to shut up)
HER: "Kaboom."

And then they both hung up.
Called back like 30 minutes later.

XD

So, GD, discuss:
Weird phrases like "da bomb" "homie" "dawg" and "yo"
Retarded convos with your friends.

  • I love having 'retarded conversations' with my friends. I don't know, it's funny and sometimes you can learn a lot, and think differently about something they're talking about. Even if it's really random. xD;

    Uh, I don't know how that came about. I go to an inner-city or 'ghetto' school and none of the real ghetto kids say things like, "Dawg". Maybe it's just another stereotype that got full blown out of proportion. Like when I say things like dawg and homie, it sounds weird and makes you look stupid. xD;

    Me especially. Yo. Yo. Yo. Man!

red tarantular 12-23-2007 08:40 PM

XD I think it's funny when people talk like that to be stupid.

But if there was ever a person who talked like that all the time, I would say what about every 5 seconds. I can't understand that D;

I mean, really, what's the definition of "da bomb"?
I mean, sure, I guess it means that you're cool or whatever, but, really

oHsoDemandinG 12-23-2007 08:51 PM

Oh you'd be surprised. There are people who talk like that unfortunately. So when that happens its assumed we all do (if you get my drift). I might say a couple of "slang" words everynow and then but I actually can't stand it. There is this boy at my school that always says son (son= basically another word for "homie", friend or man). Its so aggravating but I can't tell them what to do so it doesn't matter.

HIM_ROCK 12-23-2007 09:03 PM

There was a thing going round all the really chavy our area which was "Init me bled-rin" and the someone who I know thought they were saying "Init bread-bin" then they started saying that insted.

Risque 12-23-2007 09:12 PM

Hah. Hahaha.

I am guilty of attempting to talk like that at times.
I just did actually. My entire convo was in caps locks, and evey sentence ended up with, "HOMIE, YO, REPRESENT, or, RESPEK KNUCKLES." 8D

I'm glad there are few people who actually talk that that in my school. ^^;;
With the exception of some...I just call them the ghetto kids. xD Every sentence with them ends in either dawg or fuck. <___<

  • Its a bad habit.

    I tend to say shit after every sentence. Well, not all the time. >.>;
    I just go, say something and then add, "... and shit."

MidnightRun 12-23-2007 10:17 PM

Roflmao! Your convo made me laugh. XD

Those words are part of the language, American. o:

Ferever Murcury 12-23-2007 10:21 PM

lol every time I here that I think about the new world of warcraft tv add with Willem Shatner ( not sure I spelled his name right >.< ) those are a right set of adds! if I didn't hate the look of WOW I would have played it after seeing those.

Hyde 12-23-2007 10:25 PM

Like.. xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD

What kind of talk is that?!

No sense at all!

Hokuto 12-23-2007 11:37 PM

Lmao. This one time me and my best friend were baby sitting for her sister... everything was all fine until her sister got on the phone with one of her friends and was like "Omg, hey homeboy! Whats up blah blah" It was just sooo funny to hear her say homeboy and homegirl. Its just so like, not suiting for her to say. It just sounds weird coming from her, y'know? It was hilarious so now me and Beki call each other homegirl. XD

You're not alone!
We should try to cut our habits and all, I've been yelled at so many times for cussing and using G(angsta)-words in class. u_u;

Caroline 12-25-2007 09:01 PM

  • "DID YOU SEE THAT BIG PILE OF UP DAWG OUTSIDE YOUR HOUSE THIS MORNING?"

    "PILE OF WHAT?"

    "UP DAWG. THERE WAS SOOO MUCH UP DAWG IN FRONT OF YOUR HOUSE."

    "WHAT'S UP DAWG?"

    "NOT MUCH LOLOL WHAT'S UP WITH YOU HOMIE?"

    "D:"

Fuumuu 12-25-2007 09:52 PM

Haha. Personally? I think phrases like that were made up for some kid wanting to be cool. --shrugs-- I think it lowers our intelligence levels when we act like that, but hey. It's funny every so often. Haha. <3

I tend to say "man" a lot after sentences. >>;; Kinda stupid, but it's only when I'm talking fast and trying to get people to agree. haha. <3

Trinitydoll 12-25-2007 09:54 PM

Let's get retarded !!!! >.<;

Astromantic 12-25-2007 09:55 PM

I have dumb conversations like that with my boyfriend and he thinks it's hilarious (maybe because he's black and I'm a crazy Filipino girl who annunciates?) but it's fun. :3 As for the origin of "dawg" and "homie," I have no idea. But my brother calls his friends "dawg" and "homeboy" all the time, and it's pretty funny because he doesn't "act black" at all. He's an annunciating Filipino like me! XD

Akstar 12-26-2007 02:01 AM

If I was allowed to and not worry about being sentenced to death for it, I would stab people who speak like that outside a rap, but wait, I would stab them too. I hate butched English from native English speakers that are above Elementary school.

Lovely Akari 12-26-2007 02:19 AM

I have had many a fun three way conversation. For some reason, they always lead to a game of Ten Fingers. Weird. Sometimes it gets a little pervy too. Hmmm.

Anyways, about "dawgs" and such... I have no idea. The first time I saw the word, it was in a children's book about this boy and his dog named Dawg. That black guy on American Idol says it a lot, but it definitely existed before that. However, I'm pretty sure "homie" originated from "homeboy". I think.

Yumeh 12-26-2007 02:32 AM

*uses his claws on this thread. when someone catches him at it, he runs off, hissing*

ForkoFried 12-26-2007 02:36 AM

well it seems like weird slang now, but that's how most new words are created.
old people always go on about the youngsters creating gibberish words, and acting like this is the first century it's ever happened, lol what bull.
I would bet good money that at least half of the english language was slang at one time in one language or another.

mewmew07 12-26-2007 09:52 AM

I think it came about from Randy Jackson from American Idol. If not, then he made it all the more popular.

V!rtual Insanity 12-26-2007 10:13 AM

Lol, I have no idea where things like that came from. I think most people who say them a lot in all seriousness sound kind of stupid. I say them sometimes when I'm joking, but only when I'm joking.

Kira Bella 12-26-2007 10:14 AM

My IQ dropped so low for that conversation I started to drool <3

People who talk like that make me giggle. And I thought I was messed up in the head? If people are walking aorund callin' people "dawgs, n-ggers (I hate that word, so I am not spelling it), homies, and crackers" they need to really stop sniffing the lysol cans at Walmart.

I love making fun of people that talk like that. Maybe it is just because I was raied to speak properly. I always correct my friends when they are talking, little OCD there. But eh. Not my fault. I blame mommy dearest for that one xD

shellthabunny 12-26-2007 08:41 PM

Lol lame.

[L]ove[H]ate 12-26-2007 08:46 PM

Yeah, it's like "bitch." When someone calls me that I tell them I'm not there damn dog. Jeez people, get a damn life.
