Wow, I just realized it's February already and although I've started a number of the books on my list, I haven't finished any of them yet! I'm still plodding along through Ivanhoe, but I've been getting distracted from my other reads by lab reports and a lab puppy. ^__^ But I've decided to set aside Sundays as a reading day, though, and I must read at least 50 pages every Sunday! It can be out of multiple books, too (I like to jump around from book to book a lot for some reason.. Maybe it's a result of being the kid who brought home ten books from the library each week and read them all simultaneously!) My problem is I always start way too many books at once, and then never finish any of them. People ask "Have you read such-and-such?" and I say "Yes.. wait.. no, I just read half of it." :P

Kamikaze Kendra 02-05-2012 04:53 PM

Knerd - You really do! And I don't think you'll be too disappointed. I watched the series first and that's what drew my attention to the books, and after reading the first I have to say that they did a really good job with making the series super close to the book.

Cherry Who? 02-05-2012 07:06 PM

I don't know how you do that, Lost. Maybe you should try only reading one book at a time until you've finished it?

Lavinia 02-05-2012 07:14 PM

Haha, im like that im awful for it.

I get half way through one and start another and another then i have to decide which one to read. Quite often the decision is "ill decide later" So rather than reading 3 quicker than i expect, i read them looooads slower D=

I'm still trying to finish reading Magician by Raymond E Feist, but i keep procrastinating wanting to read the next Temeraire book D=

KatMagenta 02-05-2012 08:05 PM

I just renewed the library book I have out for another 4 weeks since it was due back next week and I haven't as much as picked it up yet. *shame*

Game of Thrones is in my pile of books that doesn't fit on the bookshelf. Judging me. *more shame*

Lavinia 02-06-2012 05:46 AM

Finally finished re-reading the first Raymond E Feist book 'Magician'

But now im stuck for what to read next haha. Trying to decide if i should stick a fast read in before i carry on with Feist's stuff, or go on to a different series i just started and start Temeraire II!

Quote:

Temeraire II - Naomi Novik
My Sisters Keeper - Jodi Picoult
Under Enemy Lines - Sean T Russell
Master and Commander - Patric O'Brian (the movie)
Safe Haven - Nicholas Sparks
Jimmy the Hand - Raymond E Feist
Honoured Enemy - Raymond E Feist
Temeraire III - Naomi Novik
Game Of Thrones - George R R Martin
Lucky One - Nicholas Sparks
Pacific - Hugh Ambrose
Shadow of a Dark Queen - Raymond E Feist
Temeraire IV - Naomi Novik
Post Captain - Patrick O'Brian
Clash of Kings - George R R Martin
Rise of a Merchant Prince - Raymond E Feist
Temeraire V - Naomi Novik
A Battle Won - Sean Thomas Russell
Storm of Swords - George R R Martin
Rage of a Demon King - Raymond E Feist
H.M.S Suprise - Patrick O'Brian
Temeraire VI - Naomi Novik
Thats my list of books to read....OH WHAT DO I PICK NEXT!

Cherry Who? 02-06-2012 06:42 AM

I haven't read any of those, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help. Though all this talk of Game of Thrones has gotten me interested. Maybe you should read that, you'll certainly have plenty of people here to talk about it with!

I just finished the last Harry Potter book. I'm going to miss this series... I got one of the books I won on Goodreads recently, so I'm going to read that next so I can get a review up for it ASAP, since that's why they give them out in the first place. But... it doesn't sound as good as Harry Potter. What am I going to do, I'm ruined.

Lavinia 02-06-2012 09:57 AM

Haha thats true. Its a fair way down the list because i've only just watched the tv series, so i wanted to leave it a while to read it.

I think ill read the next feist book, then temeraire, then game of thrones, should work out :D

Plenty of fantasy books to read hehe ^^

Lost in Austen 02-06-2012 08:06 PM

Lavinia: the next Feist book?

Lavinia 02-06-2012 10:33 PM

'Raymond E feist' Lost. He's a Fantasy writer famous for the Midkemia world. Lots of battles, riftwars, magic, elves, dwarves ect.

Always grips me anyway :D

Cherry Who? 02-06-2012 10:52 PM

I was at goodwill today and found Pride and Prejudice and Zombies! :eager: I heard a couple talking about it and I got really excited and was hoping they weren't going to buy it, and sure enough they didn't, so I snatched it up. It was only seventy cents! It's in pretty good condition too.

Lavinia 02-06-2012 11:03 PM

Oooh cool, i think ive got a similar book somewhere. not sure if its the p+p one though xD

Lemme know how it is.

Knerd 02-07-2012 12:10 AM

I always hear people talk about those books but I honestly have no desire to read them.

I'm sure that they're fun and really entertaining, but I like Jane Austen for what she is. Reading her stories with zombies or sea monsters of ninja aristocratic ladies might just ruin them for me.

KatMagenta 02-07-2012 12:35 AM

I think the the one that would tempt me the most would be Android Karenina. Everything's Better With Steampunk!™

Cherry Who? 02-07-2012 01:47 AM

Yeah, I'm not sure that I'd be able to read more than one before the novelty of it would wear it off. But hey, 70 cents, it's worth a try! Just for a bit of fun.

I hadn't heard of Android Karenina. The only two I'd heard of were P&P&Z and Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters.

Knerd 02-07-2012 02:21 AM

I never heard of that one either!

I put Anna Karenina on my kindle in the hopes that I'll someday soon have the courage to start reading it. I want to like the Russians so much, but they take so much energy.

Iltu 02-07-2012 02:38 AM

Oh wow, my school is offering a Lord of the Rings class next quarter! I can't wait until registration opens, that will be the first class I sign up for.
They're also offering a Faulkner class, but I think I'm going to have to pass on that one, as much as it kills me. It's at a really inconvenient time of day, and I've heard the professor isn't too great. Maybe if it's offered during another year, I'll take it.

In other sort-of book related news, my roommate and I printed out all of these, and we're going to tape them (and some construction paper pink and red hearts) all over the outside of our door. Who needs a special someone when you have LotR valentines to decorate with?

TaiyoTsuki 02-10-2012 09:07 PM

I must be one big dork...I'm ONCE AGAIN rereading the Harry Potter books!

@ Iltu: YOUR SCHOOL'S OFFERING AN LOTRO CLASS!?!?!?! LUCKY!!!!!

Iltu 02-10-2012 11:54 PM

Taiyo- Next quarter, at least! And I actually got in, so I'm super pumped. Last quarter there was a philosophy at Hogwarts class that I had to miss out on because it was full before registration was even open to freshmen.
As much as I love some of the classes I'm in now, I am pretty excited for next quarter and this class.

Hey, no such thing as rereading Harry Potter too many times. ;)

Cherry Who? 02-11-2012 12:25 AM

I miss Harry Potter already. :(

Knerd 02-11-2012 08:04 PM

Are you going through withdrawal already?

I guess the one good thing to look forward to is Pottermore and MyHogwarts opening up sometime this year. Both of them have the potential to be big and add a lot more to the HP universe, so you'll be able to be involved with the books somehow.

TaiyoTsuki 02-11-2012 08:40 PM

@ Iltu: Philosophy at Hogwarts? WHAAAAA???

@ Cherry: There's still Harry Potter nut out there, you know.

@ Knerd:  I deal with the Harry Potter withdrawl by re-reading the books....which I've done gods know how many times.

Cherry Who? 02-11-2012 11:41 PM

Yes, Harry Potter withdrawal. This morning I had a dream about it... But yeah, Pottermore will be nice once they finally open up. :)

I saw a mention of MyHogwarts somewhere, but I'm not quite sure what it is?

TaiyoTsuki 02-12-2012 08:10 PM

MyHogwarts? Will HAVE to check that out. I have heard of Pottermore though,

A friend of mine and I are sort of writing our own..."version" of the Harry Potter books...making a little fanverse, where Hogwarts has an NJROTC unit...Oh the hilarity

Knerd 02-12-2012 09:25 PM

I don't think that the beta testing period for it has even started yet. I've only heard rumbles about myHogwarts and managed to get signed up for it the day before the website stopped taking email addresses, but nothing for it has actually begun yet. I'll have to let you guys know when the ball gets rolling.
