@kk - Fahrenheit 451 is very good. I enjoyed it alot.

@Knerd -
I've never really enjoyed the textbooks that I've had. At least, not very much.

kitkat 01-19-2008 05:58 PM

-checks wikipedia- A book about a crazy place that has
banned books? o__o I went to my cities public library
yesterday and I found a book called 'Inkheart' I decided
to check it out because I saw my friend earlier in the
year reading it, she said it was good. The concept is
similar to Magyk. On another note I found a old kids book
called 'The true story of the three little pigs' even
though its only like 20 pages long its soo funny xD my
friend acted as the 'big bad wolf' in a play we had at our
school earlier in the year.

Oh, and I found a book 'how to become a pirate' I didn't
even look at it though, because i checked it out for my
friend that is crazy about pirates maybe i should of
checked out 'how to survive an robot takeover' too xD.

Alaunt 01-19-2008 06:13 PM

I've seen the Inkheart book before, but I've never looked at it. What is it about?

kitkat 01-19-2008 06:19 PM

Hm, I am not exactly sure myself. The summary is not really a summary at all. Its more like a quote from one
of the pages. Erm. It says it a book within a book. In a
way.

here is a quote

Quote:

For Anna, who even put The Lord of the Rings aside for a while to read this book.
Could anyone ask more of a daughter?

And for Elinor, who lent me her name,
although I didn't use it for an elf queen.

Alaunt 01-19-2008 06:46 PM

It's confusing, but I think I vaguely understand.

For some reason, I suddenly thought of the Grimms' Book of Fairy tales... me thinks I will go to the library and check it out >.>

Alaunt 01-19-2008 07:17 PM

I have the Grimm Fairy Tales. Their good.

There are several different editions. Or versions actually.

I may end up buying it myself, especially if The Handmaid's Tale doesn't manage to catch my interest. I love the concept for the book, but I'm starting to think Ms. Atwood is having a torrid love affair with commas and run-on sentences. >.<

Or I might get George Orwell's 1984 as I've always meant to read it. Part of that is because I loved Animal Farm, and the other part because as a person born in 1984, it is my duty to read it.

Alaunt 01-20-2008 12:05 AM

I didn't really enjoy 1984. But, then again, I was in third/fourth grade when I read it.

I've read a few of the tales before but I didn't have time to read them all the last time I had a copy of the book in my hands...

I've never read George Orwell... I haven't read many famous works...

Alaunt 01-20-2008 12:20 AM

I like the Grimm Fairy Tales.

I didn't really like/or care for any of Goerge Orwells books.

Clair Voyant 01-20-2008 12:27 AM

@2- Alice's Adventures in Wonderland- Lewis Carroll pages-109

This is my list for now...

Knerd 01-20-2008 03:44 AM

It's never too late to join! Even if you've started too late for your challenge to end next December, you can still go for 12 months. We're not closing anytime soon. =)

I'm not a big fan of Orwell's novels, but I enjoy reading his short stories and essaies. I think that, as an author, his writing is much more pointed and emotional when he can plan it out to 10 or 15 pages. "Shooting an Elephant"is a famous essay of his that always left an impression on me.

kitkat 01-20-2008 05:01 AM

Knerd, were the 1k orange/yellow balloons & shirt originally
in the special event store? Your indigo now? I'm losing
track, you were forest green before, correct?

Alaunt 01-20-2008 05:25 AM

*stares at color* I think she was green. *shrugs*

Hehe, well, I'll end a month late, but who cares if I'm taking on a reading goal, right!? I mean, reading is alot of fun!

fuyumi_saito 01-20-2008 02:28 PM

Clair Voyant 01-20-2008 04:13 PM

I don't know how the Welcome balloons were originally distributed, since that was before my time. I just bought the both of them in the exchange a little while ago.

And yep - I'm purple now. I was green before that, a lighter green before that, and red before that. But I think that I'll be staying this color for a while.

kitkat 01-20-2008 10:53 PM

-eats Knerds cake hat- taste like kitkats :3
Um... okay, I will keep asking around... until someone
finally answers xD -pantsless- :B

Knerd 01-21-2008 12:37 AM

^ I just did a little searching and found out that the Welcome balloons and Welcome t-shirts were gifts to the first 1,000 members, just like Yumeh Hairpin was a gift to the first 10,000 members. Is that what you wanted to know?
