Where in the bay area aree you Thoth, if you don';t mind me asking?
And what part of oregon are you moving too?

Yeah, it's lame soo many places are closing down. Before I moved, someone tried convincing that restaurant business would be fine, cause people like going out for a nice cheap meal and enjoy themselves cause it keeps them from thinking about all the troubles in the world. Now that works more for bars than restaurants.

Thoth Star 02-12-2009 06:33 AM

East bay. Livermore right now. I move around a lot...
I've lived in San Jose and San Francisco before too...
What about you?

Yeah but restaurants don't serve what I'd call "cheap food," which is why the fast-food business is booming and the restaurants are dying out... Well, with the bad economy people are more likely to go to a bar to party or after getting laid off than they would to a restaurant... so the bars will live on...

AkashaHeartilly 02-12-2009 06:39 AM

I'm in San Francisco, pretty close to Daly City, was working in Colma for a while. I need to make it over to the east bay on friday, not sure if I will be able to afford it though.

Well, maybe we should meet up! Been looking for people in the bay area to hang out with actually.

Yeah, people will always find a reason to drink especially with a bad economy, it makes even more sense. I have not gone to fast food in a while, but cheap and easy food with no tips makes a lot of sense why they are booming.

Thoth Star 02-12-2009 06:54 AM

Oh cool Akasha. I love San francisco... Its the city that never sleeps. lol.

What do you usually like to do for fun? I like to go on hikes with my friends...
Or go smoke some weed. xD

I dunno why but I never cared much for drinking.. It just makes my head fuzzy and than I feel sick. >< Yeah, I try to avoid fast food so I haven't had any in like 2 months.

AkashaHeartilly 02-12-2009 07:07 AM

It all depends.
If I have money, I like going to Death Guild on mondays. I need to see about friends from the South Bay coming up to the next MEAT.

I haven't gone hiking in a bit.
Wandering the city also entertains me.

I'm not that big on weed, even considering where I am from. I acutally prefer drinking to smoking. But to each their own.

Thoth Star 02-12-2009 07:30 AM

What do you do at death guilds? Is it like a partay?

Same here. I like to walk around and see the new buildings...
And than there's this duck pond and park area I walk or bike around.

Its all good. Most of my friends prefer drinking to smoking weed too. xD

AkashaHeartilly 02-12-2009 07:55 AM

No, Death Guild is a club night every monday at a club called DNA Lounge. It's $3 before 10 and after 10 it is $5, so not very much. I like the music that is played there.

I live near lake merced and have gone walking around that, it's super pretty, hopefully I can start doing more exploring once I get job and have money.

I think my homehold is about even on the drinking and smoking thing.

Thoth Star 02-12-2009 08:29 AM

Oh I see... Awesome name for a club. Yeah, $3 is a good bargain... Most clubs I go to are like $10 for admittance...

Cool. Lake merced... I don't remember if I've seen it before or not...
Exploring is great... money or no money. I'm broke but its sometimes one of the few things keeping me sane..

I'm kinda tired... Listening to the doors.

AkashaHeartilly 02-12-2009 08:56 AM

Hey, if you want to ever hang out, PM, and we can see about getting together.
And it's an amazing deal. I think on some saturday's there is a club night free before 10pm. It's $10 afterwards. Mostly they except you to spend money on alcohol.

I don't think i could ever last in a town like that. Glad to be in the bay area for that.
Man, how do you carter a coffee/tea shop towards farmers and cattle?

Yep. I'm barely surviving. Don't know all I know is they smell like cows.
3 restuarants in my town have closed up and 2 in the town I work in.

Elmira Swift 02-12-2009 05:45 PM

It's been a little better in our town, but there are some outside of the city limits that aren't doing so well. I live in a university town with a huge copper wire mill and some farming. Areas near the ATL airport aren't doing as well. The closer you get to AL and in pockets around Atlanta, the worse it gets. Which is why I went back to tech school. With a MA in history, the field I'm interested in is pretty closed due to a lack of private and public funding.

Stardragon 02-12-2009 05:57 PM

I'm surprised since that's a busy airport and it's close to the Alantic Ocean.

Elmira Swift 02-12-2009 06:23 PM

We've had some issues with businesses shutting down near it. It seems as though any time I venture in that direction, restaurants are shutting down or already moved on. Newan, a suburb that's fairly close to the airport, used to have new retailers moving in - but the strip malls are even looking puny these days. In spite of all that, I'm amazed by how people are surviving and taking the chance now to get into types of work they thought were out of reach. It's like some are willing to just take more risks because it's better than sitting around moping.

Stardragon 02-12-2009 06:35 PM

My Grandfather used to say. Can't didn't do nothing but cry about it. Sometimes you just have to push forward when everyone else wants to stand still.

Elmira Swift 02-12-2009 06:49 PM

That is so true Stardragon! It's best to look at it all like a puzzle or challenge than to assume the fetal position! Are you working or in school?

Stardragon 02-12-2009 07:08 PM

I'm off today but I work as a dishwasher/driver for Pizza Hut.

Elmira Swift 02-12-2009 07:11 PM

I hope people are generous with your tips. That's a lot of driving around! If I couldn't get back into the classes I needed to for next quarter, I was going to apply to the local McDonald's - I know they're hiring and I like their coffee.

Stardragon 02-12-2009 07:26 PM

They were I haven't done deliveries for at least 2 months. Okay you might also check into Pizza Hut or the local schools.

Bilbo 02-12-2009 08:06 PM

Good luck with the tips! When I worked for Papa Gino's, our drivers were often tipped really poorly because we had a $1 delivery charge for gas (of which the driver got 60 cents). Stupid people would consider that the tip.

Thoth Star 02-12-2009 08:30 PM

Thats cool. I don't like working at fast food places... but I have worked at pizza hut before... I was just the pizza maker for like a few months and than I quit cuz I hated the wages...

Bilbo 02-12-2009 09:09 PM

I don't like working in food either. That's one industry I won't look for a part-time job in.

Stardragon 02-12-2009 10:07 PM

Food service is okay but I find some of the customers annoying.

Elmira Swift 02-12-2009 11:03 PM

That's terrible about the $1 tip! We tip at least $5, but we live in the boonies and have had a number of friends who told me horror stories about delivering. I was just glad that a spot opened up in my program so I could go back to school. Now, I just need to start looking for a job!

jecynecy 02-12-2009 11:16 PM

Good Evening. How is everyone?
