The Moment of Truth

You may or may not have heard of FOX's newest game show 'The Moment of Truth'. Where contestants are strapped to a lie detector and asked personal questions; all for money! Of course, it sounds interesting. I can't say I know anymore more interested in it than myself. Anyone interested in it?

It's premiers on FOX today (O1/23)!

Jenn_heart 01-23-2008 08:38 PM

That sounds quite interesting! haha, I would so lose if I were on it.

Jennifer 01-23-2008 08:42 PM

So would my father... CX

Jenn_heart 01-23-2008 08:49 PM

aw, that can't be goo =/
my dad tells white lies. so he would be tellingthe truth AND a lie at the same time
I think I got too many genes from him/

Iheart801 01-23-2008 08:50 PM

I personally think it looks horrible. "Lets ruin your life and give you money for it, but only if you make it to the end" seems to be how the ads are playing it. Are people hooked up to a lie detector? Cause those do not accurately reflect lying, hence why they are not used in courts of law.

Jennifer 01-23-2008 08:57 PM

Some people like seeing this happen to others. And these people CHOOSE to be on the show. So if they didn't want to be on it, then why are they there in the first place. I like watching this stuff happen to people on the television; if they choose to let it happen and are for it.

Yes, they are hooked up to a lie detector...as it states on the site. And of course I know they're not accurate, but it's all in the name of the game.

Iheart801 01-23-2008 09:06 PM

I still don't think it that great of a concept. Not real original either. I will not be watching it and I think it just proves that this is that era of TV's downfall. The dumbing down of America. With Fox leading the way.

Jennifer 01-23-2008 09:09 PM

I'm pretty sure that a single game show isn't going to ruin the world. You either choose to watch it or not. The reasons for the newest game shows coming is clearly because of the writers strike. So television companies have got to make some money somewhere. Just as long as it appeals to some people; like myself.

Iheart801 01-23-2008 09:15 PM

That is another reason why I am not going to be watching it. I think the show just proves that they need to settle with the writers and quick. I realize I don't have to watch it and I wont. Also I never said it was just that show that helping to dumb down America, but one of the shows. That is another thing that is wrong with America , Corporate America, where it is about the money they can make not the content of the product. People are free to watch what they want, just as I am free to think it is a terrible idea.

Jennifer 01-23-2008 09:35 PM

Never did say that you aren't entitled to think of it as a terrible idea. Shows/game shows are the television companies product. Without anything new on air...they're not making any money.

EDIT: I don't want to start an argument or anything; considering I'm not great at debating. So just know that I fully respect your opinion and understand it.

Iheart801 01-23-2008 09:47 PM

*Smiles.* I realize that and feel the same on my part. But I on the other hand do like a good argument/ debate on occasion.

Jennifer 01-23-2008 09:51 PM

Haha, well, I have a problem with getting the words out that I want too. And since I'm a slow person and whatnot...I usually say stuff that doesn't make sense and doesn't get my point across. CX

Iheart801 01-23-2008 09:53 PM

You seemed to be doing fine to me. *Smile.*

I guess on this topic we will just have to agree to disagree.

Jennifer 01-23-2008 09:58 PM

I suppose so. CX
Well thanks for your input on the show. I do understand where you're coming from. /nods.

butterscotch 01-24-2008 03:18 AM

It was actually more entertaining than I thought it'd be. :o At least it's better than 'Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader.'

It was fun to watch the family/friends' reactions, but I wish they had... sped it up a bit. They couldn't even get through 2 people? If anyone actually gets up to the $500,000 it's going to take like 3 episodes.

Jennifer 01-24-2008 04:56 AM

There were too many commercials I think. It went to a commercial, went on for about two minutes, then went back to commercial again. >>

That second guy honestly didn't look 46 years old either. OO

It was pretty funny though watching the show. CX

M i n u x e 01-24-2008 05:31 AM

I caught a little less than half of today's episode, so I got to see that second guy answer a couple questions.

@Jenn: You are right, he doesn't look like he is 46!

@Fever: They do move at a really really slow pace, so if anyone does make it that high it will be dragged on forever.

AzureWolf 01-24-2008 11:35 AM

I didn't watch enough of it to give it a fair chance as Mythbusters was on at the same time but from what I can tell it seems like one big game of "How much am I willing to degrade myself on national television?"

Cable Induced Coma 01-29-2008 12:23 AM

Awh..I missed it. I was wanting to see it too. The people in class today were talking about it and all of the things that happened. Seemed like apretty interesting show.

Takuto 01-29-2008 12:51 AM

It's so controversial! xD.
I wished they had more viewings of the show though.
I would definitely fail at this game. My self-consioce plays with me too much.

Purdy Possum Pie 03-30-2008 11:06 PM

I feel in love with that game I can not believe the season is already up. I loved how far some people where willing to go. I an not believe some of them would even go on the show with those secrets. You are ask the questions before the game so it is not a secret what you will be asked.

Some people went as far as to wreck their marriages. And showed no remorse for it. The husband looked like he would take her back no matter what. He did not seem to have much of a back bone.

smolder 03-31-2008 09:05 PM

It seems so incredibly.........sleazy. I've seen comercials but I don't think I ever want to see that show. What people will do for money.....ugh.

MurasakiCrown 04-01-2008 01:37 PM

I watched two episodes and it was painful. The truths they make them reveal completely changes so many things. Sometimes, the truth is better left in the past, when it happened.

It is so amazing what people are willing to do for money.

Cloud of Dawn 04-01-2008 10:42 PM

Pssh. I watched that once, it was really boring and weird. It's not a truth detector, they ask them questions beforehand with no one else around...then they re-ask them the questions on the show. It's quite lame actually..but that's my personal opinion. I dunno, maybe some people love it.

MurasakiCrown 04-02-2008 01:18 AM

We studied emotions in psychology, and discovered the various ways in which a polygraph can mess up. There is NO specific physiological reaction to lying. It has characteristics in common with fear, nervousness, and other similar emotions (probably not the only type of emotion, either).

The show is based on a flawed machine D8
