Manga's: USA and/or Japanese
Which is your best to read?
Mangas done in Japan(example:Inuyasha) or Mangas done in the USA(example: My Cat Loki) I like them both, they both got some great artwork and the stories are great. So which one you read? |
You might want to rephrase your question, because I'm totally not clear on what you're asking about here. o_O;;

I'm asking which type of mangas you want to read. Japanese or USA.

I read both. They both have their own strong points and weaknesses. I find it best to go by the if it looks interesting and you find you like it read it no matter where it is from. So I like both and read both. I read a lot of manga (or manwa) that is Korean as well.

Ok. well that makes more sense. I guess my collection is mostly manga (Japanese) with a smattering of manwa (Korean). I have a few odd American graphic novels, but I don't purposefully look for it.
It all depends on which story grabs me the most, regardless of where it's from. (In case it's not evident, I don't call American drawn multi-chapter compilations manga. Those are graphic novels as manga refers specifically to the Japanese comics.) |
I read both, I have a large preference to japan, and some of the korean ones, but some of the american ones are really nice too, but I feel they are more cliche than the ones from japan. Maybe it comes from just owning as much manga as I do,and being fully into anime for nearly 8 years now.
The japanese seem to do better with combining multiple genres better than the american people do. |
The japanese style is the original and the better, I really hate the idea of american writing manga... stealing the idea from the japanese is lame...

I prefer Japanese. Sometimes I like the American ones but that's a rare for me.

I don't think U.S. comics should be considered "manga," but that's a different discussion. >__< I like Japanese manga better. I just like the art better. Although I've only read one American "manga." It was all right, but had a lame plot and was sort of boring. The art was all right but odd-looking in some parts. |
my cat loki is alot more different than the other american manga, but I agree the plot is so much weaker and cliche than the japanese artists. I suggest though some people look into korean mangwa, it is also awesome. The American manga i think is a rare for almost everyone I know.

I tend to read mostly Japanese manga, but only because the ones made by American manga artists come out so slowly. Don't get me wrong- I do read(and like) them. I just don't buy them nearly as often, because I tend to put off buying them due to the fact they only come out once a year. Also, unfortunately, most American manga doesn't tend to be very well written. While there are a few notable exceptions(Fool's Gold, Peach Fuzz, Bizenghast, Mark of the Succubus, Amazing Agent Luna, Blue Monday), most are just mediocre. :(. Nothing about them stands out. (Although My Cat Loki seems to be one of those that does- I just haven't read it yet, so I don't know for sure.)

US Mangas seem to be a bit strange. There is such a strong sense in them that doesn't seem to be as appealing as other mangas from Japan. (I guess it might be the brush strokes. lol.) But overall, some series are pretty great. I remember reading one of Tokypop's rising stars manga and they were really nice.

there are series in japan where their brush strokes get to me so I don't read them,despite how good of a series they are. Also I feel that the American manga feels to CG style, and there is a huge variety on styles, but in the styles, it is similar, so it feels a bit repetitive.

If we're talking the printing style of reading the European way of left to right versus the right to left way of Asian, I don't really care, but ever since my friends started to take Japanese, they completely shun manga printed left to right. Some of the cases are that they are translated from the original Japanese and the publishers for the American version has it printed left to right. I thought manga was bought for the contents, not how it's printed text wise? Sorry this has being pissing me off for quite a while.

Other than the graphic novel Return to Labyrinth, every book on my bookcase is a Japanese manga, to my knowledge. There could be a couple American ones that snuck in there from buying Tokyopop books. But personally, I prefer Japanese manga over the American graphic novels and the Korean manwa. I don't really know why, but it's just my personal preference. *shrugs*

Kyoko: To me personally, it's not a question of style or format that determines what to call manga. It's the content. Manga is Japanese comics, just like Korean comics (which have similar style and format to manga) have their own distinct name. If it's an US-made book then it's a graphic novel.

Japanese. xP (I actually really like Korean Manwha more than Japanese or American...)I haven't read much American manga, but Bizenghast was pretty bad. >.< I normally consider Bizenghast to be a favorite on those 'what's your favorite manga' topics, but only because I kind of like the story idea and the dresses are pretty. I hate everything about the art in every way shape or form besides the dresses. The artist doesn't even seem to do a very good job of flow for the speech bubbles with her manga. >.<
On the other hand, I find many Japanese manga to be pretty bad too. I hate Bleach, Inuyasha, Naruto, and CLAMP. >.< I don't think it's very good to catagorize them by American and Japanese, because they are very similar. |
aww wow found a CLAMP hater, how sad. Anyway, I guess it comes from them being famous and all too, I don't like much famous stuff either. I think it isn't generalizing for me all the time, but yeah, a lot of their series i can pick up and tell the difference instantly. As for the few I can't i end up loving them.
