*cries*
I'm really nervous about this movie. The series is just so awesome, and this movie is looking like it won't even attempt to do the show justice. |
Deedee Ricketts is gradually make herself look like an idiot, and continues to fail to "NOT GET IT" and not even trying to understand WHY people are showing such rage about the casting.
|
First of all, I'd like to say that I've never seen Avatar, but I've always wanted to. It looks like a great show.
Words cannot express how ticked I am about the casting. I'd go into how I feel about it, but really I said it all on my LiveJournal already. I'm not saying that it will suck as a movie. I have no doubt that the special effects will be good at least. I am however worried about Jason Rathbone's (sp?) acting ability. I went into Twilight expecting him to be okay, but thought he was an even worse actor than Kristen and Rob (and that's saying something). He also seems like an idiot to me. I don't know if I'll see it or not. We'll see. |
GOTTA WATCH!!!! I LOVED the Avatar Series ^-^ man, i gotta see this when it comes out =D
|
Twethereal - I know what you mean. I had not seen Avatar before hearing of the controversy over the casting, and I am pretty upset that Hollywood has found yet another outlet for whitewashing.
Apparently they are perfectly fine with Asian people being the extras, as long as they aren't the main characters. That really makes me angry. I can't think of one instance where Hollywood has let an Asian male play a mainstream romantic lead. In Romeo Must Die, Jet Li did not even have an on-screen kiss. That is ridiculous for two people supposedly in passionate love, not to at least kiss. And the movie 21, which was based on a group of Asian students from MIT. Who plays them? ALL WHITE PEOPLE again! Utterly ridiculous. |
they have a bunch of cast and a teaser trailer up!

That picture of Aang is awesome! But the guy playing Zuko looks so... ugly and dorky. His face is just too long to really look like Zuko.
|
Apparently, Jesse McCartney was going to play Zuko, but they chose Dev Patel instead. (Thank god!) What was the casting director thinking?
|
I had posted something else here, but seeing everyone's comments I realize I was mistaken. Now I fear for the movie. D:
|
I saw the trailer for it yesterday in the theaters.
Fear not, because Dev Patel is a great actor and Shyamalan is a great director. When this comes out, if you guys go into the theater expecting to see a lousy film that's what you'll get. But if you go in with no expectations for good or bad, then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :) |
The one playing Aang isn't so bad. I kinda think it works.
Ugh i hate the guy that they got to play Zuko and Sokka. The one who plays Zuko is the one who played in Millionaire Slumdog or whatever its called lol. I don't see how that's going to work. He doesn't look mean at all. Even with the scar added to his face. And the director. It's M. Night Shyamalan.and honestly, most of his movies are a big let down. The trailers turn out awesome but when you watch the actual movie, it's kinda lame. Like they show all the best parts in the trailer. I really really hope that he doesn't kill the movie. >.< |
If the trailer is anything to go off of the plot is going to be vastly different from the series while the concept seems to be about the same.

Since, the keyword here is "Teaser" Trailer. So basically what you see in that particular trailer, won't really relate to what happens in the movie. At least not in that order. lol. I have been ranting about this on all kind of forums. I am a bit burned out right now. |
I'm getting excited to see Dev Patel in this.
He's a very talented actor, it's a shame to see him judged solely based on Slumdog Millionaire. I believe that he is much more capable than that particular role allowed him to be. So it'll be fun to see these characters jump off the screen. The production began as a disaster, but at this point I think it's shaping up nicely. |
when my friend told me about it i was excited i saw the trailer and was more excited then i saw the rest of the cast and now i fell iffy i guess i'll wait see how it looks in the end
|
you guys are silly...the movie is not based off of LOOKS!
The director is good and he wouldn't hire stupid actors.....Rather actors that could do the characters and the film right. I"M EXCITED! It is also waaaaay to early to tell. hey it will prob be better than DBZ live action movie and that wasn't too bad. |
I've heard they were doing a live action adaption, but I'm curious as to how good it will be and how much justice it'll do to the original. I'm also concerned with how they are going to have benders bend. I mean, what will the water look like when Katara uses her water whip? The teaser looked pretty good, but I'm still wary. How about you? :points:
|
I am just going to wait and see, the movie looks like it would be good.
|
They filmed part of it in the park/woodland that's about 3 blocks from my house! My sister saw Aang in full costume x) She was walking our dogs and the dogs got in the way heehee
|
That's cool that you're near it, Devilfern. I for one will by boycotting the movie. I think that the casting of it was ridiculous and it really just broke my faith in caring about the movie. I will pirate it instead.

Paramount made their decision when they sent out casting sheets with "Caucasian (or any other ethnicity") |
Wow...The Avatar movie...
I first heard about this before the last season of the show was even over...which was also when I still liked *cough*wasobsessedwith*cough* the series, and I was super excited. Then, the series ended, and I was unbelievably devastated at how horrible the ending was (I won't go into why/how or anything but...yeah). The series was entirely ruined in my eyes, and I told myself I'd never have anything to do with it ever again. I have, however, been checking up on the progress of the movie, and like most people, I was very confused at the casting decisions...but after seeing all of them in costume, I was actually quite excited. I still think Katara and Sokka look a bit silly as white kids, lol...but Dev Patel turned out to be a better choice than I expected, especially after seeing him in Slumdog Millionare  And besides, Shyamalan DID have his say in who to give the roles to, and I'm sure he has his own vision, which I'm willing to trust. Also, Shyamalan has stated that the movie is much more serious than the TV show, which instills me with some confidence that the movie will be good and possibly much better than the show...so honestly, I'm looking forward to it. Not as a live-action of the series I came to dislike so heavily, but as it's own, promising, creative endeavor. |
Hmm really? Shouldn't the director get to hire the actors?
What I meant by looks was the actors themselves. I am actually really intersed in how the movie will look Because I am a Visual effects artist... I like making explosions, lazers etc. There are many ways to do water and make it look good and do bending with it. Either they take the right approach and technick who knows? |
I was stoked about this movie until I saw the cast...
I don't care if people saw the movie cast has no impact on the movie itself, but I for one want to kick the person who chose the cast itself. What happened to the obviously diverse nations? The Asian influences? I'm not sure if I'm going to see the movie anymore. I mean, they're great actors. But this casting is like making a movie set in Japan and having every last actor be Caucasian. Even the ones with Japanese names. Also, if you look hard enough you can find an interview with the creators of the show stating that they aren't happy with the casting choices either. |
I'm actually quite excited for it! I saw a teaser of it online, and it definitely teased. The Fire Nation ship look intimidating enough as it is, but that shot with them flinging fireballs? Phenomenal in my book. I just hope that the rest of the movie follows through.
