I'm totally ready to see that movie. It will never be as good as the series(it's the best) but I want to see how it's different and how it's the same. And if they show the whole series in one ovie, which would be really hard.

@topic
Katara without her hair loopies?
Zuko without the ponytail?
Sokka without the mohawk?!
and Uncle Iroh not fat?!

what the hell?! how could they do that?! that's what makes those person..THEM!
i'm still not into Zuko being Indian and all...xP

i'm kinda excited to see Appa and Momo though..:boogie:

It's not a mohawk, it's a "wolf tail".

Mr. Night is a bad writer, but a good director. He did not write Avatar. I don't think Mr. Night picked the actors.

That actually would have made sense. If they really couldn't find ANY Inuit actors, I'm POSITIVE that he would have been a better choice...though honestly, I'm not sure I'm all that impressed with Taylor Launter as an actor. I'm disappointed that the movie didn't stick to the cultural roots of the story- in the show, all of the characters represented either an Asian country or Inuits, so, what the heck, casting people? They're not even using Chinese characters like they did in the show, they made up some joke language and called it taking artistic liberty. Artistic my eye. If they had done LOTR with Asian characters, how many people would have protested Hollywood's straying from the original story background (though I don't think it was ever explicitly stated that all the people in Middle Earth were fair-skinned). I'm 99.9% sure I'm not going to see this movie.

Windi 02-25-2010 04:58 PM

My hope is that they can portray the element bending well . . The trailer looks pretty good, I hope the characters play their roles well~

N a d a 02-26-2010 08:55 PM

I have a feeling it is going to be a disaster. I hate it when they butcher a good book/anime/etc by making a crappy movie.

Tokai_Hara 03-05-2010 02:07 AM

I'm excited for the movie. I don't think it's so important that the actors are white but the characters that have light skin are being played by dark skin actors and vice versa for the dark skinned characters. I'm kind of a perfectionist on these things, I hope they do good make up jobs if nothing else.

fallenvega 03-06-2010 03:33 PM

can't wait to watch it.. :)

kurodo32 03-06-2010 06:34 PM

i hate shamalan . . . but the movie does look like it may end up decent, though i dont really approve of the cast for zuko, ut alas, not much anyone can do there

Jobunneh 03-10-2010 10:06 PM

I don't plan on watching it. I think they've already butchered it when it's not even finished yet.. I'm a huge fan of Avatar and this movie is making me want to cry. I wanted to punch something when I learned that an actor from Twilight was going to portray Sokka. So much rage.

AnimeMoonKitty 03-11-2010 01:07 AM

~I've finally saw a preview of the movie on TV ( but only once) My friends and I are huge fans of the show ^_^ (We even have a nice cosplay group ^_^ )and we are planning to go see the movie when it comes out on July 2nd but we aren't too sure out the cast, but like to see how true to the story they keep in the movie.

Kwani 03-12-2010 04:05 PM

I actually think it might be good. I love the cartoon series. i was a little put off by the fact they didnt stay with the people being of inuit or asian backgrounds. Guess we'll just haft to wait and see if its good when it comes out. I really hope it isnt bad.

x_Temev Leapthief 03-13-2010 04:08 AM

I watched all the episodes when they were on TV, and Avatar: The Last Airbender is indeed one of my favourite shows ;) I heard about the film, too. I saw a commercial for it during the super bowl! As soon as that was shown, I screamed in excitement. There has also been a few trailers released. You can find them on YouTube x] I am not really a huge fan of M. Night Shyamalan. The Happening was a horrible movie. I hated it. And The Village was a bit boring for me, but it was okay. So, I really hope this movie isn't ruined. I don't want to see one of my favourite shows be ruined because the live-action movie sucked. I have high hopes though! I hope Shyamalan doesn't disappoint.

StardustFalcon 03-14-2010 05:13 PM

I have to agree M. Night has made some bad movie recently. The happening being the only one i can think of. Signs and the village were very well done and i cant wait to see how he does avatar. It doesnt matter if the actors are white or asian. A ll that matters is if he can do the bending perfect as well as have the charactors be like they were in the show. Sokka for example, They need to keep him as the funny idiot, but not all serious. Also for the second book (If they the first movies goes well and people want a second movie) They need to have toph as the same smartass that she is in the series. Other then those i'm looking forward to seeing this movie when it comes out and from what i say of the trailer that only had aang it should be a really interesting movie to see.

x_Temev Leapthief 03-15-2010 12:37 AM

@StardustFalcon;; Wow, I agree completely. Signs is definitely M. Night Shyamalan's best film. It actually kept me interested throughout the entire film. And I agree about the Sokka & Toph thing. Now that you mentioned that, it actually makes me really excited for the second film, even though the first one isn't even out yet! XD But they better not mess up on the Toph character! She NEEDS to be perfect.

amam2217 03-15-2010 02:31 AM

I was so excited when I found out about the movie! The series is absolutely amazing! I was pretty skeptical about the movie at first, but it does seem like it'll be really good. Katara and Sokka's actors also seem like they'll play the part well. I just hope Aang ends up showing more emotion than what I've seen so far in the trailers. I also wish Zuko's scar stood out more, but I'm sure there are reasons as to why it can't look like the one from the series. Anyways, I'm definitely going to the midnight showing. My best friend is thinking of cosplaying as Katara, and I'm thinking of dressing up as Toph. Summer needs to get here a little faster!

Royal Knight 03-15-2010 05:23 AM

I'm not a big fan of the cartoon/anime/whichever, lol, but I can't wait fer the movie.

Xai 03-23-2010 02:27 AM

Avatar was (is) one of my favorite tv shows, but unfortunately we don't get the channel anymore. >_>; I used to watch it every time it came on. It was one of my guilty pleasures. <3 The characters and storyline are wonderful, and so is the art. Though the live-action movie looks good, I'll probably wait until it comes onto DVD. My sister and I will make it a point to watch it together. She practically blasted my eardrum when she saw the trailor for it.

I'm not very worried about how it will come out. The only other live-action movie I saw was Death Note and even though it was really different from the manga, I still enjoyed it. So I'm sure I will enjoy this one as well.

Rallaa 03-25-2010 05:44 AM

I'm split on this movie.
The trailer I saw showed awesome special effects, the bending looks amazing.
I'm just really disappointed by the casting.

Shimawa_zen 03-25-2010 06:12 AM

Rallaa - I completely agree. It seems such a tragedy to have such great special effects and bending, alongside casting that is against everything the series stood for. This movie without a doubt shows some of the worst blatantly racist casting by Hollywood in years. Ethically, I could never spend even a penny towards this movie.

Smellerbee 03-27-2010 12:22 AM

Shimawa_zen - I believe the series was made for entertainment value, not to lead a moral crusade against a 'racist' Hollywood.

Shimawa_zen 03-27-2010 01:02 AM

I did NOT say that the series was made "to lead a moral crusade against a 'racist' Hollywood." That is not at all what it is about. I honestly wish that there had never been any need to associate any kind of "moral crusade" with such a wonderful show.

Yes - the series was made for entertainment value. It also included themes of international/interracial friendship and unity - and that is what Hollywood stamped on. If you have doubts that the casting of this film in particular employed many different racist policies, then I encourage you to read this article.

thelettervee 03-27-2010 04:15 AM

i'm looking forward to the movie, despite the casting :3 am a fan of the cartoon. am really curious to see how it all works out. >w<

Lovely Panda 03-29-2010 07:34 AM

I know I'm a little late to the party; but I've been an Avatar fan for quite a bit. Elaborating upon traditional Anime, I'm hoping M.Night keeps true to a lot of what has been going down. I've seen a few trailers and most have jolted my hopes, but it still tickles my, "Let's wait until it comes out on DVD" fancies so far.

:Edit:

I'm a little happy he hasn't been pushing this whole 3D fiasco; thus pushing prices to skyrocket beyond means.

:Edit2:

I am really hoping M.Night stays true to the Books. He could be looking at a Harry Potter scenario that turns into a multiple movie scenario if he does it correctly.

Mehrana 03-30-2010 11:45 AM

I'm so excited about it; I own all the episodes on DVD and I want to see the move so bad. The only issues I have with it are
a), Why the heck is M. Night doing this? Most RANDOM thing ever... which isn't really an issue, I guess...
and
b), Taylor Lautner is doing Sokka, from what I hear, and SOKKA IS 12, NOT 20-SOMETHING! That just gets on my nerves.

Beccaii 04-01-2010 04:11 AM

:vicky: I'm excited to see the live action verison of Avatar: the Last Airbender, my brother watches it all the time and ever since I sat down and watched it with him I caught my interest and I just loved the story line. I do hope the movie is just as good, by the trailer so far has caught my interest.

I'm not really sure how I feel about M. Night doing the movie cause I haven't really been a fan of his movies. I do like Cliff Curtis as an actor so I can't wait too see him play the fire lord. :vicky:
