New Food Pyramid

So the food pyramid has changed a lot since I was a kid. This is the new one if you haven't already seen it:

How healthy are you by these standards? Do you make a conscious effort to be healthy?

I'm unfortunately still not healthy according to the food pymamid. I eat too much dairy, pasta, and fruit and don't eat enough vegetables. I know that I should change my eating habits, but I never do.

Erathene 02-08-2008 10:40 PM

Nope, I'm not a healthy eater at all ^_^;; I really should start eating more vegetables, but honestly a cereal bar with oats appeals to me more than a carrot does :/ I think I get more whole grain stuff than I do anything else...
I snack way too much D; Especially when I get stressed, I seem to get extra hungry D;

Trinitydoll 02-08-2008 10:50 PM

I knew about this pyramid, was it different before? o.O
well anyways I think I am half healthy.
I eat a lot of pasta and olive oil in the salads, also tuna in the saladas which is a great source of omega oil which is really the best.
Then I eat soja burguers which is also good for you instead of meat, I do eat meat a little but fat less and well done, really well done and in small amounts like once in two weeks or less, not saying it is the best but it helps you to have a great colesterol level (I barely ever had colesterol at all)
I also eat brown bread from time to time it is good for the grains and fiber and then I eat cereal bars (which are not really good cause they got a lot of sugar on them but if you eat like 1 a day it is fine) just dont think they are so healthy as they seem, they do have lots of sugar.
Im not good at eating fruits I know I should I just find it hard, though I like oranges, bananas and even apples but not peaches or grapes.
I think Im bad at eating veggies,and legumes (I love those) I eat salad, tomato, lettuce, broccoli some times but I know I should Include more (the nutricionist told me to)
I eat cheede everyday and some time in the week I eat eggs wheter alone or in preparations.
My suggestions are:
careful with the sugar
dont eat grassy meat
legumes are great and tasty
tuna is tasty and gives you a lot of omega oil which you need because you need fosforum
try to eat fruits and cereal but avoid the ones with sugar.
And remember it is not all about eating habits but excersice daily or at least 2 -3 times a week =)

katyasha 02-08-2008 10:51 PM

I need to cut down on my food as well and eat health.

Chexala 02-08-2008 10:52 PM

Whoa, they changed the food pyramid? When did that happen?

This pyramid looks much better than the older, I think. I like the changes they made, though I still think that vegetable should get their own level, instead of sharing with fruits. I like that they split whole grain foods from their white counterparts, and that they devided fish and red meat.

Very interesting.

I think I eat healthy-ish. There's always fresh fish where I live, so I eat a lot of fish. Halibut, salmon, cod, love it! That's a great source of Omega 3s, and they're just so gosh darn good.

I also love bananas and eat one everyday. I love spinach and I also really like little steak portions (too much steak is bleh) and I make my own lunches, instead of buying them, which is good. And Old South orange juice is like god in juice form. Love it.

But I also love chips and bars and chocolate. D: So, I guess it all balances out. But I do exersize at least 4 times a week.

Sisely 02-08-2008 10:56 PM

Wow, your right, they did change it! I guess we're just too old! lol

As for me following it, I'm not that good at it. I mostly eat things I can toss into the microwave, but I suppose I do get enough veggies as I eat Chinese food alot. I don't eat a large variety of meats though. I'm a huge fan of chicken and eat it all the time.

juniper_silver 02-08-2008 10:56 PM

The old pyramid looks like this Trinitydoll: http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/cm...d-pyramid1.jpg

I don't know exactly how new the new pyramid is, I just know that it wasn't like that when I was little. I only recently found out about the new one.

Edit: It looks like eating chicken and not a lot of other meat is actually a good thing Sisely. :) So you're healthy without even trying. I used to love chicken, but I've been a vegetarian for nearly 8 years now so I don't remember what it tastes like anymore.

shanzyluvshim 02-08-2008 11:12 PM

i try to eat healthy...but i can't seem to lose the weight....i mean im not fat or ne thing but i would like to have abs at least. i eat a lot of vegetables, rarely eat dairy products, meats, no fried foods, but i do drink a crap load of energy drinks....

aneliese 02-09-2008 12:37 AM

haha, considering I eat white rice every day and not enough wheat, I'd say I'm pretty unhealthy :lol:
good thing I get a lot of exercise though? o-o

Anbaachan 02-09-2008 01:06 AM

I'm about half way there. I've gotten rid of most all white bread and pasta, with exceptions here and there. But I need to eat more veggies, less red meat, and exercize.

Winter Wind 02-09-2008 01:14 AM

O______________O
I've never seen that before!
O___________________O;;;

HOly crap.
I'm Chinese...so white rice is like a staple. THen there's potato, we eat that ALL the time.
O___O
And we have red meat super often too, 3 times a week for steak.
We have fish a lot too...
Damn, my diet is like...food pyramid upside down. xD;;

Lolly 02-09-2008 01:25 AM

This is my personal food pyramid which never changes. :wink:

juniper_silver 02-09-2008 02:18 AM

xD I'm right there with you Lolly. That's one tasty looking pyramid.

clock 02-09-2008 02:36 AM

My pyramid looks like Lolly's. lol. :] You'd have to really pay attention to what you eat to be on a pyramid like the first one. xD I don't think I could ever do that.

I really do need to start eating better. It doesn't help that no one in my house cooks; we always eat microwave meals and fast food. I have pizza/fast food at least twice a week.

Rusalka 02-09-2008 02:38 AM

I've never really payed any attention to the food pyramid, or my nutrition for that matter. I eat what I can get to fill me up. If that's fatty fast foods then that's what it's going to be. I know I should take better care of my body with more than one meal a day that isn't fatty foods, but when you have a hectic lifestyle sometimes you don't have much time to take care of yourself.

It's not as if I'm over weight though, too much anyways. There's problem areas, but I'm skinny for the most part. xD

I agree with Lolly's food pyramid!! Hmmm.. should pass that one on to my health teacher.. >.>

Fabby 02-09-2008 04:09 AM

Whoa... they changed it. When did exercise become a part of the food pyramid?! XD
I never paid attention. The bottom layer of my food pyramid is cereal. Ha. The very top part consists of vegetables. I am so damn unhealthy.

InfinitysDaughter 02-09-2008 06:35 AM

I dont agree with that pyramid as it says to eat pasta in moderation.

Pasta is essential to anyone who exersizes a good deal, like athleats. It has the slow release sugars that keep one going during a meet or even training.

If they are going to change it that badly I'm going to ignore it from now on.

Screaming_Biscuits 02-09-2008 05:58 PM

They changed the food pyramid again?!

s w e e t 02-09-2008 07:01 PM

ehhh, what's up with the last row o.o;
never seen that one been put up in the pyramid food ;O
i never realised they've changed since i don't really pay attention to it..;__;

Shadizilla 02-09-2008 07:17 PM

:<
Where's the sweets part at the top?

Pft.
I eat the same things most every day. Cream of Wheat for breakfast, some meat and a salad for lunch, along with milk. Some sort of snack in between, and then some meat or fish and normally a salad or vegetable at dinner.
I'm not fat or anything :| But it's certainly not following that food pyramid.

Oh, and of course, sweets~

Ebil 02-09-2008 07:17 PM

I'm terribly unhealthy according to the food pyramid.
I don't eat vegetables (I last ate a green vegetable when I was 8 years old, and I'm 21 now). I don't eat fish at all. I don't like poultry and I have fruit about once a week if I force myself to eat it =x

I mainly eat potatoes, red meat, rice, pasta, more potatoes, bread, more bread and sweets <3
Carbs = Love

Eesu 02-09-2008 07:18 PM

omg. o____o;;;

My diet consists mostly of white rice! DX IT USED TO BE AT THE BOTTOM!

I feel uncomfortable that vegetable oils are near the bottom of the pyramid... and exercise shouldn't even be on it since it's not even food. I know it's meant to be a reminder though but it just doesn't fit with food since I can't it. :P

So...where is the sugars and sweets? XD

Screaming_Biscuits 02-09-2008 07:22 PM

The last new food pyramid I saw was vertical.

Eesu 02-09-2008 07:26 PM

Come to think of it, where does it say that this is the newest pyramid?

I don't like that vertical one. >.> It doesn't represent things well.
