Scoot (Wolf)

I'm new here, so apologies for the nakedness. I'm a little bit confused, but I'll figure it out eventually.

This is Scoot, the first animal I've drawn in years. I used random photographs off of goole as references.
Scoot'll be a character in the manga I'm working on.

x.o
Sorry to be harsh or anything,
But that looks more like a lion than a wolf.
Have you looked up wold anatomy?
They aren't that fluffy to my knowledge.

Manseutus 02-09-2008 09:13 PM

i really like the mane like thing he has. He reinds of a cross between a lion and a wolf. But i really love your inking. It is just amazing

Eserel 02-09-2008 09:16 PM

XD
Yeah.
I forgot to say that.
:>
Good inkin skillllz.

This was a really rude post, I'm sorry, Eserel. I'll watch my wording in the future. .___.

Manseutus 02-09-2008 09:24 PM

i liked the look of him. :) the concept of lion wolf to me was awesome. Still is cant wait to see the manga you make of it

Leona of the Zodiac 02-10-2008 12:49 AM

Lovely work with the inking here, I particularly like the textures in the dark areas best. Nice work, seems you have a promising start!

Hug 02-10-2008 11:37 PM

Thanks. :]

I've been doodling wolves all day, I think I'm getting a hang of their body structure. The drawing I posted here wouldn't connect to the head, if you removed the mane.

Leona of the Zodiac 02-11-2008 03:09 AM

But it is quite the lovely fluffy mane to be certain! *Grins broadly* Mmmm... yes practice makes perfect when it comes to wolves! I have a lupine charrie myself, so I find myself constantly sketching. Of course, I'm terrible in that if something does not look right I'll cover it with fluffy fur... *laughs softly*

Overall, I like the picture.

I like his mane, that is full of volume and drawn very well. And, in general, the hair is done very well. Also, his legs are very well drawn.

But, I do find his pose a little awkward. He has a serious look on his face, but his tail is between his legs like a sad puppy. That just conflicts, in my mind, and it would be nice if his mood was made clearer.

This isn't a critism or a praise, but I observed the inking of his face looks lighter than the inking around his tail. What gives?

I do like this picture. Keep up the good work.

RyaLee 02-11-2008 05:39 AM

his eyes look kind of sad to me...it's pretty awesome his face is kind of flat though I'm not sure what it is but everything looks well rounded until you get to his snout area where it seems :\ 2-d

 What! normal people don't have huge eyes? Are you kidding me? You must be joking... *runs to google to find fluffy maned wolves and bug eyed people* ..I couldn't resist...sorry, it's late, I shouldn't have had that soda.

Dystopia 02-11-2008 06:28 AM

@ Hug - There was no reason to be so rude when responding to Ese. She saw what resembled a wolf, and yes, some of them do have hair around their neck that look like manes, and commented on what she knew about. So she presumed that it was an error on your part. Either clarify in your first post, or when someone brings it up, but please don't' be a bitch about it. No offense or nuffing.

Now back on topic. I love the detail you put into the fur and the textures, but the rest of the body seems so plain compared to the mane and tail.

remaja 02-11-2008 06:49 AM

awww why does the wolf look sad? :(
its cute though :D

Hug 02-11-2008 02:35 PM

@Dystopia

Yeah, that post wasn't intentionally rude in the least. I got a little (a lot) upset, because I post art on a lot of forums and most replies, especially on Gaia, were full of 'THAT DOESN'T LOOK LIKE A WOLF LOSER', which was very frustrating. Eserel didn't say that at all, but I was kind of worked up already and didn't react maturely. The sarcasm kind of leaked through. I'll edit the post to take out anything offensive, but leave this one as a tribute to my rudeness. D:

And back on topic for me; Looking back at this drawing, I agree that it looks 2d. The eyes were supposed to be sad, actually, hence the tucked tail.
The lack of detail on the body itself was not on purpose. ._.;;
What happened was that everything started out undetailed, but suddenly I got bored and start lining the mane.
Except... the lines were squiggly, and I'm OCD, so I had to darken the lines and add more to fix it. And more to fix those lines. Suddenly the entire mane and tail was overly lined, which I couldn't do to the entire body. I'd go insane.
Thanks for noting that, though. I'll have to pay more attention to even detailing from now on.

i like it ^.^ I do a lot of animal drawing myself, and I tend to make my wolves a bit on the furry side. I really love the mane, and his bushy tail ^.^ The inking it awesome. It's a bit on the different side and that's what makes him so much cooler :P

Hug 02-14-2008 09:19 PM

Thanks, Fay. I've been aiming for 'a little different', so I'm always happy when people notice that. I want very much to make a manga, but I dislike how all manga is the same.

MelonFairy 02-14-2008 09:42 PM

I actually think it looks very wolf life, it just has a special characteristic of a fluffy added mane a fluffy tail :3 I think the tail matches the expression on the face because it look a bit sad to me~ I love with animals look majestic but a bit timid or sad at the same time because that way they don't seem too over proud or anything

The belly/hind leg does look a bit funny though~ but overall,:3 GOod job keep it up~ don't like people bring you down~!
