Tangwystl & Taesari

http://i265.photobucket.com/albums/i...i/IMG_2959.jpg

This was a doodle. As in, not a piece I labored over, used references, and redid several times. This is just a doodle I drew at my karate school's banquet to pass the time an quell nervousness before the demonstration.
Therefore, I would appreciate it if criticisms are toned down.
Criticisms that would be appreciated:
*Accessory suggestions

Criticisms that would not be appreciated:
*This sucks!
*You shouldn't take the lazy way out of doing hands.
*They should be facing each other.
*There is too much boob emphasis.
*Make it darker.
*The eyes are not in the right place.

Anatomy advice is welcome, but please /only/ give anatomy advice if you know for an absolute fact that you are better at drawing than I am. I don't want to be attacked over a doodle. I'm one of those whiny losers who gets upset over harsh criticism.

Drawovers are loved, no matter how harsh!

-The girl on the left is Tangwystl.
-The girl on the right is Taesari.

I think it's really awesome. I'm no artist, but your style really appeals to me. The hair is wonderful.

Accessories... sashes, armbands, hairpins? Hairbands?

And your name makes me feel special.

Hug 02-11-2008 05:27 PM

Hahaha, thank you. My name makes me feel special as well. I was so surprised to find it still unused. Your name is pretty, I've seen you around the forums before and wondered why I didn't think of that. x]

I'm glad my style appeals to you, because these are characters for the manga I'm planning. Most of the people reading it probably won't be artists, so I was wondering for a while now how nonartists feel. :]

Mmm... They both used to have armbands, maybe I should put some back in?
The hair stuff is probably a good idea, I'll keep that in mind for other characters. I figure any godly characters should have lots of jewelry, but no hair adornments, and opposite for nongodly characters.

Thank you. :]

I thought they should wear some big bracelets or have some nifty arm tatoos.

I really like your lineart style.
How its thin and think in different areas.
Really adds some class to your art.

Hug 02-11-2008 06:13 PM

I didn't even think of tattoos! What'd be a good tattoo? I immediately thought of dragons, but that would be nonsensical seeing as there are... no dragons... in my manga... .____.

Iunno. Maybe just random designs?

I definitely think some chunky bracelets for Taesari, and armbands for Tangwystl.

:3

RyaLee 02-11-2008 07:09 PM

nice big chunky bracelets would be good along with maybe earrings my only problem with the hand hiding in the hair is that maybe the hair should be longer or her arm should go further back. I love their hair for tattoos maybe something tribal but nothing too ... I can't think of the word for it sorry
more awesome tribal and less generic ...?

aonith 02-11-2008 08:02 PM

Those rae kinda cute. I like the fact that your work is really neat and the lines are great too.
Ofcurse there are some mistakes like a vit too short neck and etc, but overal it's good.
Keep it up <3

Hug 02-12-2008 12:16 AM

I feel that the neck is still within a normal range, but I'll keep that advice in mind.

Tribal tattoos it is, then! And yes, the hands are hidden. It's a doodle. I wasn't drawing it to torture myself, it was just for fun. I only draw hands when I have references, or when I'm doing commissions. I can do them very well, but it takes multiple tries and I don't enjoy it. .__. /lazy

Maria-Minamino 02-12-2008 01:23 AM

The only thing that really sticks out to me is that the girl on the right (when we look at the picture) has her arm around her back - but that would be really awkward for her to keep the arm like that and have her hand on the other side - so you either need the hand or the arm needs to be fixed so that it looks more natural - I'm not sure if you can make sense of my babble. Other than that I really like your style - it's cool! The hair looks lovely! the shading of it is just so nice looking - I love it :D Great expressions as well :D

Leona of the Zodiac 02-12-2008 01:33 AM

Oh wow, I have to say I am really in love with that hair and how it flows, plus the amount of detail you put into this. *nods* I agree with the armband ideas, but just make sure not to go crazy or anything and clutter the picture. Also, a nice sash or belt might work upon one of them.

Hug 02-12-2008 11:15 AM

@Maria:
I understand exactly what you mean. Actually, if you look at both of them, you'll notice they have all their hands cut off awkwardly. This is because I am very lazy. I don't draw in hands without a reference, and I only create references for commissions, pieces I plan to color, and stuff just for the manga (I haven't done this yet, actually).

@Leona:
Thank you very much. ^__^ I'm glad I finally found a good style to draw hair in.
And you're definitely right; I'll be sure to keep them uncluttered.

Livia 02-12-2008 12:44 PM

I'm not good at giving advises when it comes to draw Dx I can't draw that well xD

But for me both of them are not bad ;D

aonith 02-12-2008 02:32 PM

Hug, well I agree that they might be normal lenght, but for this stile I'd rather make their neck a bit longer. i dunno, i guess t would look cuter that way.

TelstelNSG1 02-12-2008 03:28 PM

wow if only i can draw people like that i draw people like.....chibis  i love your work keep it up

I used to be that way too - but now i think drawing hands is one of my favourite parts of drawing. lol. There are still things I hate drawing - like feet - I can never get them as realistic looking as I want - they always look just a bit too awkward. and I especially hate inking artwork - so any chance I have to NOT ink it I take lol

Hug 02-12-2008 08:31 PM

Aonith: Thanks, I'll definitely keep that in mind. I think you're right, longer necks look better with detailed hair.

TeLsteLNSG1: I started out drawing chibis. :]

Maria-Minamino: I can imagine that once I get used to them, I'll love hands. I think hands are the most beautiful part of the body... except on drawings. x3

I'm not going to respond to any more comments now, so that the topic can fade away. It's now an old drawing in my mind, and I'm sure other artists would appreciate the comments much more. :]

Maria-Minamino 02-12-2008 09:53 PM

yeah - I love hands - for some reason I think they're very very pretty :D lol good luck :D
