St. pattys day music!
Yeah i know, 3 days to valentines day and i'm talking st. pattys day. I was just thinking about it today when a flogging molly song popped up on my itunes so now i'm making my official st pattys day playlist. I even found a couple old house of pain songs in here for my list. Does anybody else have suggestions on some good irish music i can add to my list?

Since you mentioned Flogging Molly, you probably already thought of Dropkick Murphys. I would recommend any covers they did of olde Irish folk songs.
You could always throw in some Bing Crosby as well, like "Too-ra-loo-ra-loo-ra", or one of the other Irish songs he performed. The only other I can think of is "We Irish" by Dolly Parton. I hope that helps at least a bit. |
Every Saint Patrick's Day, my mom listens to The Chieftains. ^^
You just want to do a little jig when they come on... And of course, there's U2 and The Cranberries. ^^ U2 doesn't have a very Irish sound, but The Cranberries do a little. ^^ |
Flogging Molly and Dropkick Murphys are good choices. ("Fields of Athenry" by DM = <3) My St. Patty's day playlist will consist of Flogging Molly. And I'll probably watch The Boondock Saints on that day too, so the opening song to that movie would be a good add-in too. (:

Probably actual irish-inspired-folk music.
The Pogues, CCR, etc. Actual folk music. |
Well someone already mentioned Dropkick but if you are looking for something more traditional I recommend The Irish Rovers or EJ Jones.

You should listen to Celtic Woman they got some songs on there that you might like

Re: St. pattys day music!
Oh wow, I don't know many irish songs, but this thread sure is helpful in giving me informations on some of the irish songs that I'm probably going to put in my list to search the next time I got to the mucis store in town. :D |
I've got some Irish folk songs on my iPod. A whole CD of them. "The Best of Irish Folk, Volume 1". And yes, I'm heavily Irish ;D The Dubliners, Finbar and Eddie Furey, The Grehan Sisters, Sweeney's Men, The Johnsons, The Glenside Ceilidh band, and Royston & Heater Wood. |
Aw... Flogging Molly was Chris's favorite band. He died not long ago... I don't expect you to know who that is. He was a kid in my class. It just makes me sad.
Anywho. Ashley MacIssac (I don't know if that spelling's right) he does some really killer Celtic/rock stuff. When I did irish dance we did an amazing performace to a song called Brenda Stubbort. The most hardcore irish dance Ever. |
This is a fun dig up, it being around that time now.
I like the Chieftains and Lenahan. |
