Digital Painting

Yep I did a Digital Painting. :)

Not the best but is practice for my Computer Graphics 3 class. It is a few things going on using Art History Brush, Paint Brush, and a few Filters. Looked better on the Mac and I used a filter to strong to make it look like a texture.

How I did it or well sort of.

I took the image, make it black and white (saving the original as color) and making the contrast high. Saving it as a texture panal. Going into the original work and then going to use a texture filter and place the black and white texture panal as a filter. It gives the effect of being a painting.

Of course this is after making the image was altered into looking similar to a painting.

That's a rad effect! I may have to try that myself sometime.

I do wish the canvass texture wasn't so obviously computer generated. It have so much repetition. I don't know how one could get around that...

Yeah that was the last step I did. Before that I used the Art History Brush and a few other things to create an actual painting.

The original image is an actual photo. :)

Before all that I used a gradient of dark colors in one layer and then their is away to blend the image and gradient together. This is how I get some cool colors that can easily be able to use the Art History Brush. The only issue is you have to make snapshots every time you use something other then the Art History Brush, to be able to use the Art History Brush.

Whoa it looks like you scanned in the picture that is so cool. I got to learn that one on my photoshop.

DreamEmpress 02-12-2008 05:59 PM

I will see if I can get a better description on how to do this. -_- I am horrible at explaining things. Most of it is based on what you want to do with different brushes when you work with the Art History Brush. :)

Ah! Unfortunately, neither my old version of photoshop, or Gimp has a history brush. But I can see how one might use a similar technique to get a CG picture to look like a painting.

It is a great tool. I like it. I have to work on another for the class. This time we have to make a poster. It should be nice. I am thinking of using a person or make a movie poster or something. I am not sure exactly how I am going to do it.

Wow that looks awesome. o:
Nice work there mate.

I had a chance to use it a friend's house once. With a tablet too... -drools-

It was wonderful.

You'll have to make sure to post that too. I'd love to see how it works on a person.

Yeah I will defiantly write step by step and really see what I can do. :)

Thanks everyone.

^^

SweetLilKitten 02-13-2008 01:02 AM

Looks awesome

Whoa! That loooks awesome! I couldn't do that even if it depended on my life! =]

Lania 02-13-2008 06:27 AM

For some reason, the fruits look like a real painting and the background doesn't to me... maybe because the canvas pattern repeating is more noticeable on the darker colors then the light. Where it doesn't look like an oil painting, it looks really trippy though xD so on the whole it's just plain neat!

aonith 02-13-2008 01:49 PM

Whoa! awesome work! It even barely looks like a digital painting. You did a really awesome job during your class. If I'll vere get a photoshop I thnk I should try out this technique as well,
