.:You Just Got Burned:.

Unlike most people will think this is NOT a board about dises. It's about getting burned. Literally. Have you ever been burned? Share your story (or stories) here.

Here's mine:
One day, I was talking to my mom. I think I was in sixth or seventh grade and I was wearing a sweatshirt. Sometimes teh air conditioning would work and sometimes it wasn't so the temperature in my house was abnormal. I was talking to my mom next to teh stove (which was on). I started to feel hot but I thought it was just because of the air conditioning problem. Suddenly my mom's eyes widened and she started yelling at me (to move from the stove). I moved and my motehr started yelling at me some more. i looked at my elbow (and around tehre) and there were several holes in the sweatshirt from being burnt. I myself didn't get burnt. Since that day my mom hasn't let me fry anything...

Your turn!

I once attempted to get a pan of chips ("fries") out of the oven without oven gloves.

Lol, I had two white, straight lines across my palms for a fortnight.

Wow.

Must have been fun. :D

Well, the mocking from my family wasn't. ; - ;

Want to hear something really stupid that I did once out of boredom?
Of course you do.
So once my friends and I were sitting in choir, bored, and there was a random box of dry ice. I don't know why, but there were a bunch of dry ice chips. For some unknown reason, we all started putting them on our skin and just letting it sit there. It burned like hell, but it made our skin awesome and white. The week or two after that, my hand was all screwy. I still have a few rather large scars (one of which is now shaped like a heart) and I swear this is related.

I also have a fear of burning myself whilst dealing with ovens. I once burnt myself putting a tray into the oven, and though the burn wasn't bad in the least I have been paranoid ever since. I don't even know why. XD

Sure I want to hear! :D

*reads/listens*

Wow!

Dry ice?

Fabby 02-19-2008 02:42 PM

Yes, dry ice. I have to say, that was clearly not a day that I was thinking rationally. I kind of look back and go 'what the hell was I thinking?!'
It was one of those 'Hey Fabby, try this' and I was like 'whatever'...

(And for the record, double posting is bad. >_<)

Californiaswimmergirl 02-19-2008 02:45 PM

(oops! sorry! i didn't realize...)

Yeah... I was wondering how your mind was wonrking that day,...

Baker's fingers help a lot. I have only been burned a few times although I do work in the kitchen a lot. One time I was 6 and for some reason, although I knew not to, wanted to put my hand on the red-hot electric stove. My mom saw, knew I was an experiential learner, and grabbed my hand right after I touched it down to put it under water. Otherwise all i've had were really minor boiling water burns.

Fabby 02-19-2008 02:51 PM

(Is okay. We don't want you to get warnings or anything. >_<)

Hey, it was fun at the time. Every person has to do something stupid, pointless and painful during their teenage years, don't they?

Omg!

Sorry that just sounds so funny.

The picture in my mind is hilarious! :D

Definitely.

AntiOrder 02-19-2008 03:16 PM

Me and ovens seem to have a long standing feud. I've had more burns getting things out that I really want to think about. The worst was down one side of my wrist and up to my thumb.

katyasha 02-19-2008 03:17 PM

Ok here is mine:

I was in charge of making cookies at my old job and the oven was hot to the touch, I was about to take them out I had oven mitts on when I touched the door with my bare arm I didn't feel the pain until I put the cookies on a rack when I notice a red mark on my arm and a painful sensation.
So I had to run cold water over it but it wasn't too bad after a while.

Californiaswimmergirl 02-19-2008 03:20 PM

AntiOrder -Ha1 A long standing fued! That sounds hilarious! The floor and I have a very nice relationship unnlike you and ovens. I fall on the floor a lot because I am such a clutz. The floor always catches me. Or the sidewalk. Or the ground.

Amiiu 02-19-2008 04:07 PM

I never had a serious burn, maybe some minor ones when I accidentally touched metal when it was really hot, but other than that, nope, I've never been burnt. But last year, when I was at camp, the person that was living next door [sleep away camp] got burned by a hair curler because she touched the hot part, so her skin got all lose and weird and she had to carry a bag of ice for the next 1 to 3 days.

KeyKey 02-19-2008 04:26 PM

well once I was trying to make pom frites and somehow I got all the oil over my right arm, I can say you it wasn't fun. I had made pom frites for over an hour so the oil was really hot, I was lucky that my mom was home so she put some honey over my arm so now I only have two small tumb long burn scars but I can barely see them.

Cows Go Moo 02-19-2008 04:32 PM

Okay well with mine I have two, one's more like I could have been burned, but it was more like I was playing with fire.

First one: I don't remember how old I was, but at a wedding at night I had this weird urge or something and I lit a napkin on fire with a candle. Unfortunately I also panicked because of the person sitting next to me and we ended up attracting a waiter, but eventually we put it out. O_o the funny thing is that the fire was my only memory of the wedding.

Second: I was helping my mom with some stir frying and so oil was added to the pan and so I fried, but on accident i got oil splatters on my hand, so I left..because it was hurting. The next day though, it turned out I wasn't burned.

Cloth Roses 02-19-2008 05:52 PM

I've burned myself more times than I can count, but the most memorable was when I was about seven or eight though. I cooked myself some spaghetti in the microwave and was taking it back to my room.

When I sat down though, the bowl collapsed and the hot spaghetti landed on my leg. I had a circle shaped blister the size of a grape for a month, and I earned the stupid nickname Luigi.

KatMagenta 02-19-2008 06:06 PM

I nearly burn myself by touching our metal kettle all of the time. It's a stupid rounded shape and to take the lid off you have to press your heel of your palm into the side. I've only actually done it when the kettle was so hot to leave a mark once though.

I guess I'm lucky, I can't remember I time I was ever seriously burned.

Erathene 02-19-2008 06:13 PM

I burnt my thumb on our toasty maker not 10 minutes ago xD
I put my filling on the bread of my toasty and some of the cheese dropped on the hinge-thing. So I tried to get it off so it wouldn't stain or anything and I caught my thumb on the hot bits D;
There's a tiny mark on the side of my thumg, but it's not very big :]

Ebil 02-19-2008 06:18 PM

I was frying prawn crackers one time, was using a big Wok and had the oil up to about half full. I was in the middle of frying them, so the oil was boiling. I turned around for something and knocked the handle of the wok with my hand.
Wok flew off the stove and boiling oil went all over the place. Mostly down my right thigh. I remember being more shocked than in pain. I climbed into the kitchen sink and ran cold water over my leg for ages. It didn't start hurting for quite a while, but then it was not pleasant at all >.<
Thankfully it somehow managed not to permanently scar me.

Oh,I got a nice scar from the iron when I was 8 years old. I was ironing a handkerchief to make a toga for my Action Man and I ironed my finger. That scar still shows at the bottom of my middle finger.

Well, it was kinda funny. Besides, there was a HAND coming down on a BURNER from above. Kinda like a ban hammer, but with the hand and not digital. :o

Aeisha 02-19-2008 09:17 PM

The only time I have ever burned myself (that wasn't on purpose) was with an iron. I think it was five years ago and my mum was making me iron my clothes for school (very lazy teenager)Anyway I burnt my wrist and because I was so mad I decided to leave it; not very bright, I know. Now I have a scar there to remind me of my stupidity.
The only other time I can remember being burnt was when I was pouring hot wax over my skin to see how much it would hurt (candle wax). Both my friend and I were extremely bored at Christmas carols so at the time it seemed like a perfectly reasonable idea.
