"But I hate shopping!!"

Are you one of those people who hates shopping for clothes? You go as long as you can, until you really really REALLY need new clothes, then finally go buy more?

Or do you absolutely LOVE shopping, and would gladly spend hours in the mall trying on every pretty thing you can find? You always buy way more than you expect to, and never wear half the stuff.

Personally, I like clothes shopping when I can find things that look nice on me, but if nothing fits right I get discouraged and don't enjoy myself at all.

Do you like shopping?

Sapphire Clouds 02-23-2008 08:48 PM

I hate shopping, to be honest. What I really like doing, is going out with my friends, and making fun of clothes, and then trying them on. Usually, they look amazing on us, but when they are hanging on the hanger... not so much so.

I think the thing I hate about shopping has to be paying for clothes. I can see something that I really like (darkest blue jeans at AE), and find out that they are out of my price range. I'm the kind of person who won't pay over $30 for jeans, and about $15 for a shirt. It's hard to find stuff that I like that isn't from Wal-Mart, lol.

toxic billy 02-23-2008 08:55 PM

I like it but then again I don't like it. Recently I'm starting to enjoy it a little more. I would like to go soon, because I need new clothes. I used to hate it so much.

I guess things just change as you get older.

dreamerice 02-23-2008 09:06 PM

I don't enjoy clothes shopping, I used too when I was younger, now it's just not fun.

Siri 02-23-2008 09:24 PM

I guess I'm the type of person that doesn't really like shopping for clothes. I mean... sometimes I do, but most of the time, I hate it. That might be because I usually only go shopping right before some huge formal event when I don't have anything acceptable to wear. And then it's really a hassle because I'm being rushed to buy something before the graduation, party, etc.

And I agree with Sapphire Clouds. It's annoying to find something nice and then have it be out of your price range. It's like you find a really nice top and you're all ready to buy it, but then it's like over 60 dollars and totally not worth it anymore. >.<

Taylor 02-23-2008 09:28 PM

i like shopping, but i don't like to go all the time. i'm pretty lazy so i prefer to stay at home. i also don't really like shopping with people because i feel like i'm rushed and stuff.

silevrygit 02-23-2008 09:28 PM

I'm the type who'd go if only necessary XD

Sirocco 02-23-2008 09:33 PM

It's not like I hate shopping. I love getting new, beautiful clothes. The problem is that finding something nice is quite hard, at least for me, and after 2-3 hours spend on shopping and not buying anything (or almost anything)... I'm bored. And that's enough for me, I start thinking only about when it's going to end.
And also, when I finally find something what I really, REALLY like, prices are killing me >.>

So I'm not going shopping really often, just from time to time - but not exactly when it's necessary. Just when I rest after previous time xD

Rmarques 02-23-2008 09:40 PM

I loathe shopping. Whenever my mom drags me towards the stores, I die a little. My mom has this obsession with buying "trendy" things, and half of the time I don't like them. >> So, I just pick the less vomit inducing ones, see if I can find one that fits me, and walk away and pretend to be happy. <3

Jesmond 02-23-2008 09:46 PM

Normally only when necessary. If I go too often, everything just starts looking the same to me and I get irritated. I don't mind clothes shopping when I have the money, but I normally don't do it as a hobby.

Fox Paw 02-23-2008 10:00 PM

For me, how much I enjoy shoopping depnds on what I shopping for and who I am shopping with. If I am with other people who also love shopping, for example my friend Katie who is a totall fashion queen but is also quite nice and funny, then I can have a great time shopping. But if I am tired and hungry and can't find any dresses (I only wear dresses, and these days dresses are hard to find and come in really weird styles most of which I don't like), then I can get really grumpy and I just want to go home and get some lunch.

PayShi 02-23-2008 10:13 PM

I am the same as you Easther_Bunni. I ENJOY shopping! I don't get to do it enough in my opinion. <3 I always like to find something new to add to my collection of outfits... though I'm not a very nicely dressed or in-fashion type of person. For example, I prefer the sale rack. xD I like finding pretty hoodies for like $4 and whatnot... but I DO get very discouraged when NOTHING fits me or NOTHING looks good on me.
Sometimes when I go to the mall, and I'm broke, I still go into It's Fashion! and try on things just for the heck of it..
Currently there are a pair of jean shorts I want... >_> Because they looked and felt very good on me.

Jali 02-23-2008 10:55 PM

I'm the person that waits until I really really need some new clothes.
And even when I do that, i'm either really in the mood for shopping a little, or absolutely not wanting to do it.
I don't really like shopping for the hell of it.
But I LOVE yard sales and swapmeets, and the furthest i'll go as shopping for the hell of it, is going to thrift stores, because it's fun looking through all the different stuff and it's cheap!

havenmasters 02-23-2008 11:01 PM

I LOATHE clothes shopping. It's always so hard and frustrating.
1) I hate the 'popular' styles, like pants with stuff stuck all over it or stupid designs across the legs. When I look for jeans, I want a normal, plain pair of blue jeans.
2) Sizing issues; nothing seems to fit right. I'm a size 3 but nearly all size 3 pants I come across are really tight in my female area, and I can't stand that. Size 5 pants are always a bit big.
3) I have to be comfortable. If I don't like that way it feels there in the dressing room, trying it on, then I'm sure as heck not going to like the way it feels for a whole day at work/school. My clothes have to be a little loose on me, I can't stand feeling confined.

I wear my clothes until they are dead. Seriously, hole in the right knee (it always turns out to be in the right knee), frayed all over, faded almost beyond recognition. It is so hard for me to find clothes that I like, that I'll wear, and that are comfortable that I just can't seem to let them go until there is no other option.
I avoid clothes shopping because it is 98% of the time a horrible experience that takes years to recover from.

Sagitar 02-23-2008 11:10 PM

it's okay. I don't shop for hours, I get easily irritated if I have to spend an hour in a clothing shop.. D: I know my style and I can easily skim through if the place has anything for my liking, then I try out a couple things maybe, buy if they're good, and leave. simple? yep. fast? YES.
10minutes to 30minutes is enough.

Chexala 02-23-2008 11:14 PM

It's not what I'm shopping for that bothers me, it's where I'm shopping.

I love shopping for clothes, but I hate malls. I hate massive cooperations that charge outrageous prices for clothes that were manufactured in sweatshops. I want nothing to do with them. When I shop for clothes, I either get them from a company I trust, or from the thrift store.

Thrift stores are freaking awesome, I love them. They're totally unpredictable, you never now what you're going to find, and I often come out with something I never would have thought of otherwise. It's that randomness that makes thrift store shopping so much fun. Plus, while everything there did once come from a mall at some point, it's probably been in and out of fashion a couple times, and all of it's millions of twins have dwindled away so that it's sort of unique again.

Usuri 02-23-2008 11:20 PM

I love shopping for clothes but I hate shopping for shoes

:/

maybe its because I don't like feet...

well actually it depends because I like boots... a lot

xD

mecynyk 02-23-2008 11:57 PM

I love shopping. I love clothing shopping and lingerie shopping. Not to mention the shoes and accessories. I love virtual shopping probably just as much as real life shopping. It's so fun and exciting!

Sagitar 02-23-2008 11:58 PM

only things I love shopping for is games! ^o^ I get all hyped up when I enter the games section in a store.. I just love a good game <3

Easther_Bunni 02-24-2008 05:06 AM

Wow, sounds like some people really dislike shopping!

What I don't understand is why every stereotypical girl in movies and TV shows LOVES shopping and goes shopping ALL THE TIME and spends enormous amounts of money on clothes.

Meanwhile, most girls I know, including me, aren't like that at all, and they actually pay attention to how much clothes cost, not like "OMGOMG I WANT THAT TOP NOW. GIMMEEE!!!"

I agree with whoever said thrift stores are awesome. I always find neat stuff there!

wispytearz 02-24-2008 05:22 AM

I really enjoy shopping when I actually can afford to do it. Unfortunately, between having two children and being a stay-at-home mom and a college student, we don't really have a lot of money to spend on random shopping or even the pseudo-necessary shopping. Even right now, we have a few thousand dollars coming in from our tax return and almost all of it has to go right back out to pay for important things like our vehicles and paying off old bills. Not having the money to spend definitely takes a lot of fun out of shopping.

kitkat 02-24-2008 05:24 AM

I use to like shopping when i was little, until i realized
how boring it was.

Easther_Bunni 02-24-2008 05:30 AM

@Wispytearz: Yeah that would be pretty restricting. I don't tend to buy expensive stuff, but occasionally if it's something really nice I'll get it. But i can imagine it would take all the fun away if you had to focus on not spending too much.

@Kitkat: Haha. I find that little kids get way cuter stuff sometimes. Especially shoes. Kid's shoes are so colorful, and they have lots of different styles. Teenage girls shoes are usually either sandals of some kind, flats which I have trouble wearing, and sometimes I can find a nice looking skate shoe/sneaker that isn't plain white or black.

juniper_silver 02-24-2008 05:31 AM

I love shopping and could spend all day shopping. I shop at thrift stores mostly though. And I also like to browse and try things on for fun, so it's not like I blow tons of money everytime I go shopping.

I do go to malls, but mostly just browse and look for exceptional deals. They do happen every once in a while. The mall is usually too expensive, but it's nothing compared to some of the boutiques on campus. I love the clothes they have there(they always look so hippie...ish), but I wouldn't pay over $100 for a skirt even if it was the most adorable thing.

Rainiy 02-24-2008 05:37 AM

I think it's okay~ ^_^; I really love clothes, but my body is just... weird... >w< (I'm kind of pear-shaped, and the size difference between my boobs and my tummy is like... 2X-3X versus Medium/Large D': So it makes it hard to shop ;o; I'm trying to lose weight! >D So maybe my chest will shrink and I can HAVE A SIZE xD;; It's really the main reason I don't like shopping :3 If something fits, it just looks funky xD;;

When I go shopping though, I breeze through the racks, pick out what looks nice, and then book it to the dressing room xD; There's no... Therapeutic effect or stress relief for me xD I just like to look at bright clothes :3
