The path to end war is by waging war against the world?
So, I was watching Gundam 00 (yes, a debate made out of an anime's plot, deal with it).
In said anime, there's an organization called Celestial Being, that wishes to eradicate war by waging war against any country that starts a war, even if they haven't even really started the fight, and they also attack the other side if they insist in the war. Basically, their plan is to get the world to stop waging war against each other by at the very least make it wage war against Celestial Being itself, thus, forcing the people of the earth to unite against the common enemy. Of course, ideally, they'd stop waging war altogether under the idea that Celestial Being would interfere and stop the conflict, thus, making it a waste of time and money. So, here's the debate: is the plan of eradicating war by waging war against the world, and thus, giving everyone a common enemy to fight against, something that could potentially work out in the real world, or not? |
The only way I can really foresee it working out is if the group declaring the war somehow manages to rid the universe of all life. :/
I'm not entirely understanding the plot from the way you explained it... so the Celestial Being is waging war so that the countries get tired of the war that they're already in and just stop? Many wars more than just political, although they always at least are that; for example, Islamic countries vs. Israel...part of WWII. Religious hatred against different groups of people. A country's government will undoubtedly be pressured under the extra money it consumes, but the chanes of all countries attacked by the organization with the plan just stopping is highly unlikely. |

They also destroy the reason for the war when possible, such as an episode where they attempted to stop a conflict in South American by destroying the field where the drugs that were causing the war were grown and made. |
It seems that it's possible in Gundam 00,
but if you look at wars in the real world... Human nature, in my opinion, already makes this an impossibility. Yes, there are many humans willing to do good at any cost, but an overwhelmingly greater number of people who cannot, will not, or even try to cause more war. Using the examples from before, organizations cannot eliminate conflict with little harm in all cases. A war with underlying hatred for different ethnicities only truly ends when one of those races is subdued. |

Well, yes, the debate is more about the concept than anything. I'll change the first post so it's clearer. |
It would never work. Humans will wage wars over the slightest things until they are extinct. Humans cause more conflict than any other species on earth, and the only way to fix that would be to get rid of all humanity, which humans will never do due to pride. This does not count for all of us, but it is a good majority of humans that cannot live without war, without conflict. The world will be at peace once we are gone for good.
