The one thing I really hate about my dress code is that tank tops of any kind are not allowed without a jacket covering it! X___X it gets so hot here in FL and when the AC breaks...oh my god!
|
@dragoness129- Even with leggings! that sucks! I am so short, that I always have a hard time finding skirts and jeans that fit me properly, ALL my jeans drag on the ground! x_x
|
Well, I went to school in England. So I had to wear a uniform. Was just a shirt, school tie and black trousers. We weren't allowed trainers though, only black shoes. Of course that didn't stop people from wearing black trainers. And the teachers didn't really care, just the people in charge of the school
At college and uni there aren't *any* dress codes or uniforms, which made a refreshing change :) |
@ jelachu - Yes, even with leggings!
All my jeans do too. I am about five feet exactly. (and please edit your topic instead of double posting, that is against the rules.) |
Hello! I don't really think that our school has any really harsh rules about clothes, except maybe no swear words on you. We also can't wear things with really thin straps, really tiny pants and skirts without pants. I read an article about these rules. Many people think some rules are ridiculous (which some are). I read an article about this boy who got suspended for having a mohawk. The school said the boy was "distracting" and he got suspended. It's on USA TODAY if you are curious. My carpool's member's brother goes to a Catholic school. At the school, they have a very strict dresscode. I'll give you the basics. No black, no letters on clothes, no t-shirts, and no sweatshirts.

Meh, I go to a medical college, so it's Lab Smocks and scrubs for me. <3 It's totally awesome because it's really comfy!
Just throw on a pair of scrubs and you're ready to go. xD It's good because it saves me time, and I can sleep for a couple extra minutes. But man, I remember in high school...the dress code was VERY strict. The only colors we could wear were Red, White, Blue, and Khaki. Yeah...we were a "Patriotic" School...so we had to wear the colors of the flag. I mean...we could wear what we wanted, but the colors HAD to be any of those colors. Oh, and if you thought you could wear blue jeans..think again. That's what the khaki was for, so we could wear slacks. D: It was absolutely horrid, I'm glad that I'm over that. xD High school sucked for me. o_o |
My school, to my knowledge, doesn't actually have a dress code.(I'm a college student.) However, even without an official dress code, no one wears anything 'bad'. The worst I've ever seen are shirts that advertise alcohol. In high school, my school DID have a dress code, though- no revealing tops/pants, shirts that advertise alcohol, and no chain wallets. The funny thing is, people wore those anyway. And I wish they wouldn't have. >_<;. The worst thing is, half the time, they got away with it. :(. I wish my high school HAD a dress code- then I wouldn't have had to see that. The chains never bothered me, but the other stuff did. :(.

All the schools I ever went to had slack dress codes. It all basically applied to modesty though; you know, no showing off your stomach, skirts can't be too short. In middle school you couldn't wear tank tops, but they dropped that when you hit high school.
They did watch for t-shirt logos and such though. Nothing sex or drug related. There was never a ban against any certain color, thankfully. I wear a LOT of red and a good amount of blue so I don't know how I would have handled those colors being banned. The biggest thing we ever had was in high school when the school decided it was tired of seeing girls' bra straps all the time (girls would wear spaghetti strap tops so you could see the bra straps). The made a rule that you could still wear a spaghetti strap shirt, but you would get sent home if they could see your bra strap (basically, wear a strapless bra or even go bra-less). |
well me i'm not currently in school... no it wasn't dress codes or uniforms that pissed me off about my school... no what it was for me is that i have an undiagnosed muscular disability and they through me out because i was an insurance liability...

Well this is a good topic to debate mm lets see
For the past decade, schools, parents and students have clashed over the issue of regulating student attire. In 2007, cases involving an anti-Bush T-shirt in Vermont, an anti-gay T-shirt in San Diego and Tigger socks in Napa, California, made their way through the courts, causing many to wonder whether this debate will ever be resolved. Meanwhile, researchers are divided over how much of an impact — if any — dress policies have upon student learning. A 2004 book makes the case that uniforms do not improve school safety or academic discipline. A 2005 study, on the other hand, indicates that in some Ohio high schools uniforms may have improved graduation and attendance rates, although no improvements were observed in academic performance. Why Do Some Public Schools Have Uniforms? I think in the 80s schools with uniforms were conected with catholic or parroquial schools and had that image though it changed when President Clinton provided momentum to the school uniform movement when he said in his 1996 State of the Union speech, "If it means teenagers will stop killing each other over designer jackets, then our public schools should be able to require their students to wear school uniforms." SO i think it is all about that prase you know... shcool uniforms doesnt matter unless it is for a good cause like preventing kids from discrimination. In my country school kids wear a white delantal in State schools, it was made with the purpose of protecting your clothes but also as a general overall clothes to minimize discrimination effect and make everyone equal...I think it works somehow not perfectly but a bit. |
Well... I'd say there is something like a dresscode.
I mean, teachers usually don't allow students to wear some short tops or really shirt skirts. Same thing goes for the big accessories like rings, earrings and neclaces. Also the middleschoolers are not allowed to wear a lot of makeup. However our junior- and middleschool students have a uniform, that actually consists only of a jacket and a shirt. Since it is only 3 years in ours school, the rules aren't so stict, so children are allowed not to wear it every time. O'm pretty happy with the dresscode we have in our school. It is not too strict. But I actually would like to have a uniform in whole school. |
Well we have some school uniforms in my school. And yes we are only allowed to wear it or the P.E. uniform. We only get the chance to dress in civilian clothing if the school has some special occasion like foundation day D;
Yes I hate the dress code thingy but as a student I must follow it. And I guess we have a dress code for us to look much more civil and well groomed xD; |
I have both.
All students from middle school have to wear uniforms (it's a new law at my country, all primary & middle school students have to wear uniforms >.>). What's more I have a middle and high school together, so we (middle school students) wear uniforms, and all high school students not. All people in my class love special events, when we can wear elegant clothes, instead of uniforms. Fortunately, this year I will get rid of my uniform *crazy smile* And we have also dress code, of course. No bright colours. Definitely NO for red and pink (these are absolute no-no), no yellow or orange, no too bright green, blue, etc. Boys can't wear short trousers, girls can wear capris though. And it's not like noone is looking for that... most teachers don't care for the dress code though, but my principal. She can yell at you from the other end of the corridor just because she had seen that you wear something in bad colours! But I also was a witness when my principal tell my friend that she doesn't wear good skirt - and that skirt was long, brown. Dark. Just a skirt that noone will think that there is something wrong with it o____o |
I wish every school handed out school uniforms that looked sensible. For example, white polos and black slacks for everyone. At my old high school there was so much divide over cliques and clothing, it was ridiculous. I remember in 7th grade, I was made fun of for having jeans from Walmart, which was all my family could afford at the time.
|
I've been wearing uniform for 10 years of my life, and to be honest I got sick of it.
Not only did you look the same as everyone else, if you walked in public with your uniform on with your friends, some people would look at you as if they were thinking "oh god, it's the students from [schoolnamehere], bunch of tossers". Our school doesn't really have a good reputation >.>;; Also, I would always wear my school jumper, and the sleeves always used to stink! D; Even though on a monday morning it would've been fresh out of the wash, my sleeves smelt horrible. It was awful D; Now I'm in non-uniform, it's so much better. The vast majority of us dress sensibly, no OTT clothing really :] |
I've worn uniforms through all my school years (apart from Nursery and Pre-school, but that was probably 'cos we were too small to need uniforms)
I hate it It's allways been jumperes since aobut 2 years ago, my school got a new head teacher and she changed the uniform to Blazers, shirt and tie for all, boys and girls. Girls are no-longer allowed to wear skirts, and we now have to wear ties. you have to have plain black shoes, no trainers. They say it's to make everyone equal, but stopping girls from wearing skirts is a bit silly, don't you think? That and we have to put our blazers on for when we go into a classroom, out of a classroom, into school, out of school, we're not allowed to take out blazers off without having being allowed to do so by the teacher and we now have a card that teachers sign if our uniforms aren't correct, and if we get 5 signatures, we have our non-uniform day taken away School sucks thank god i'm leaving next year (yay sixth form!) |
Funny, my only objection to uniforms is that I would most likely have had to wear a skirt. I can't stand skirts, personally; I'm very self-conscious about my legs, and I hate people looking at my body for the most part.
Dress codes never really bothered me, since I never wore anything but jeans, plain t-shirts, and a jacket to school. It's supposed to be about learning, not clothing, unless you happen to be in Home Ec. and doing the sewing project. Frankly, I don't see the point in bickering over it. Most jobs have a dress code as well, and not following it gets you fired. In an office setting, you can't wear jeans, ripped or otherwise. You can't wear loud t-shirts, or sneakers, or that funky novelty bow tie you got for Christmas last year. Your skirt will most likely not be allowed to end above your knees, forget about the fingertip rule. School is supposed to be preparing you for real life, so you might as well get used to following rules you don't like. |
I have a dress-code in my school and i'm perfectly fine with it.
The dress-code at my school keeps the guys from sagging their pants too low and it keeps some of the girls from showing off a bit too much :] Thank you dress-code >w<~ |
When I was in high school, we didn't have uniforms but we were restricted on what we could wear.
I agree to have bans on some types of clothing. There were girls in my school that would walk around looking like ragged prostitutes, and it's just degrading and disgusting. That's when they got stricter with what would could and couldn't wear. I'm happy they did, in the future those girls will be happy they didn't have slutty pictures of them in the year books. Then to top it off, we didn't have any boys with their pants down to their knees. |
Schools are a learning environment so whatever benefits students to be less distracted from their studies is okay with me. I think that a lot of times students forget that they're not there to be "fashionable" or "to be cool" or "social", but to learn.
|
hmmm, I really think that people should be allowed to wear what they want as long as it isn't slutty or says like, HAVE SEX WITH ME BECAUSE I DRINK BEER AND SMOKE WEED AND OTHER POTENTIALLY OFFENSIVE MATERIAL! Or whatever. But then again... chickies in schoolgirl uniforms... if worn right can be very cute ;]
|
Wow that really is unfair.
By the way what is the Confederate Flag for? o.O; At my school we wear uniforms. It's a Catholic School so yeah. XP; And during Dress Down days everyone pretty much looks the same cause everyone shops in the same mall and people just has lack of originality. Which is pretty sad. >.>; They banned bandanas, large hoop earrings or any kind of large earrings, gigantic belts. XP People or should I say a certain clique at my school got them all banned. And the large hoop earrings were banned because of a fight and apparently, some girl's ears got ripped off. Can't blame her. XP; |
Actually in my world geography class, we talked about clothing in school. Somehow it went from bat mitzvahs and bar mitzvahs to what people wear to school. So we pretty much talked about clothing and how people see others by what they wear. So if someone is wearing something ridiculous, everyone else would think of them as crazy and ostracize that person. So, my world geography teacher thinks that the school should have uniforms. I actually don't care if we have uniforms or not, since I don't care what I wear. But some other people were definetly against it, mainly the "popular" people. But by wearing uniforms, it definetly would make it easier for the people that care what they wear in the morning, so instead of choosing what to wear, they can just wear the uniform. But also, there was this issue last year, where on the morning and afternoon announcements, our Vice Principal, Mr. Saxon, would have this section that's like. Before you come to school, take a look at yourself in the mirror, is what you're wearing too short? Too long? Too tight? Too loose? and some other stuff. The first time everyone laughed at the announcement, but after awhile it got annoying. Also, at my school, we're not allowed to wear spaghetti strapped tang tops, the sleeve thing has to be at least 3 inches thick.
|
There's a dress code to follow at my school.
Ones at the top of my head. *shorts and skirts no shorter than a few inches above the knees...finger length *no camis or tank tops...no shoulders showing Those are the biggest ones I think. |
My school has wine-colored uniforms. -_-;
