Manhwa - Korean comics
They're just like manga, except they're Korean. ^^;
Anyone read any good ones? I read "Island" before I read any Japanese manga. It still had some Japanese characters in it, though. The art is really beautiful. A lot of new Korean manhwa seems to have ugly art, but not "Island"! I'm also reading Chunchu. It's more expensive than manga, even though it's shorter and has less content. I think it's more like $14.00, and it's mostly pictures and little text. It only took me maybe 20 minutes to read the first volume, whereas it takes me about an hour to read a full manga. But I like it so far. |
Banya is a good one. Korean art is very interesting.

The only one I've read is the first arc of Kill Me, Kiss Me. It was pretty interesting, but the art looked kind of sloppy.. xD There was a second arc, but it was like.. a different story from the first arc.. so I decided not to read it. :3

I think both Kill Me, Kiss Me and Snow Drop are pretty good. Tarot Cafe and Island, too. The art style commonly used doesn't look as appealing to me as manga tends to, but I still like it. I love the way they do hair, too. ^.^

I think "Tarot Cafe" looks pretty good, but the story is confusing. Almost all of the male characters are gay, but suddenly half of them fall in love with the main character, a woman named Pamela. So...I don't know. I wish the manhwas just stuck with their rip-off of "Petshop of Horrors" and dropped the plot, because it doesn't make any sense.
Another one I started to read is "Let Dai." I really prefer gay/lesbian comics over all others, but not that one. It's too violent. I don't like how the main character is falling in love with a gang boss who keeps having his gang members rape the boy. X_X It's awful. I quit halfway through the first volume, and I won't be reading any more of it. |
There's a bigger topic about Manwha over in anime/manga. :3
