That's just the Menewshan rules. I think it keeps people from making useless posts and gaining money from that useless post.

Jennifer 03-05-2008 09:21 PM

We don't encourage spam over here on Mene. We like to have engage in actual conversation instead; makes things nicer.

Mars180 03-05-2008 09:23 PM

i kno but back at gaia "spam" is just random things that make your computer lag...
and bumps are things that keep your thread alive not spam

Sapphire Clouds 03-05-2008 09:26 PM

No, bumps on Gaia are considered spam. They are just accepted as necessary because the forums move so quickly.

Menewsha does not move that fast, so there is no reason to bump the topic. Your thread will still be alive in three hours after your original post, so there is no reason why you have to clog it up with posts.

As well, spam is also repeat topics. I do believe you posted something like this before this morning. If you're having a problem with adjusting to the rules of Menewsha, this may not then be the place for you.

Eroy 03-05-2008 09:27 PM

Bumping is not allowed on Menewsha. It is considered spam because it provides no relevant conversation.

Ferra 03-05-2008 09:28 PM

There's a big difference in the speed of replies here on Menewsha compared to a site as large as Gaia though. There's really no practical reason to "bump" your thread on Mene because it will stay on the front page of the forum for a relatively long amount of time if it's a viable topic.

For things like the exchange, where bringing a thread back to the front page actually is necessary from time to time, you are allowed to make a post to bring it back to the top. But ONLY if your thread has fallen off the front page and you're still buying/selling.

jellysundae 03-05-2008 09:28 PM

Bumps are spam. Plus they are next to useless on here as you don't get any noticable amount of gold for 4 letters.

(Incidentally, on the new software, you can't make a post that is less than 10 characters long)

But we don't allow double posting because we don't want people spamming the hell out of the place, basically.

Anything posted on this site needs to have some content, and relevance to the thread that's in. Which may be a bit of an alien concept to someone who is used to how things work on Gaia. But we're not Gaia, and we don't want spam ^.^

Mars180 03-05-2008 09:34 PM

trust me iv been on gaia for 3 years...3 YEARS!
i kno the difference between spam and non-spam

Amo_Angelus 03-05-2008 09:38 PM

>_> Gaia doesn't know the difference between spam and non spam. I believe that's the point people are trying to convey. Spam is a post that contributes nothing to the thread. A bump contributes nothing to the thread therefore by deffinition it is spam.

Ferra 03-05-2008 09:41 PM

But considering Gaia doesn't have any rules against spam like we do, there's really no way you can use Gaia policies as an example for what is and isn't spam. ^^;

Bumps and unnecessary double-posting are just empty posts that tend to have nothing to do with the topic, or are just the same information said over and over because someone doesn't respond to them fast enough and they want to fill the gap. For those reasons, it's considered spam on Menewsha.

EDIT: Plus, if we want to play the seniority card when it comes to Gaia, I joined back in 2003. ^^;

ToastedWhiskers 03-05-2008 09:49 PM

Mars180, I've been on Gaia for 4 years, and I say that bumping is spam. ^.^;; Sorry, I... outrank?... you, it seems. [Actually, it makes me sad that I stuck around on Gaia so long...] Honestly though, Gaia is almost all spam. If it's a useless, pointless topic? It's spam. If you bump continuously? It's spam. It contributes nothing to the topic. And complaining isn't going to change Menewsha's policies, so you should probably just drop it...

And you say 'back at Gaia'. Note that this? This isn't Gaia.

Afterglow 03-05-2008 10:03 PM

Mars, saying "bump" is just spam.

Plain old spam.

You get gold for useless posts.

And, this isn't Gaia.

We never EVER want it to be.

Please respect that.

I've been on Gaia for 4 years.

Bump is spam.

Spam is spam.

Definition of spam;
A useless message.

Three years and you still don't understand that "bump" is irrelevant to a discussion?

As the others have said, no bumping or spamming allowed here. If you want to have Gaia's rules, then go on Gaia's site, not Mene.

The Wandering Poet 03-05-2008 10:15 PM

Because on gaia, it's a larger site so because had to bump to keep their threads alive. On mene however, since it's only a small community only a little over a year old, bumping isn't as needed. It's also concidered spam because you get gold for how long your post is.

Menewsha may be strict, but because of that this site is much cleaner than gaia

Eroy 03-05-2008 10:21 PM

This has been thoroughly answered. I'm going to go ahead and lock it.
