Sprained
Yesterday my puppy sprained his ankle, which I thought was rather wierd until I heard the story. Supposedly he got his foot caught under a piece of wood that fell down while he was pulling on the blanket which was on top of it.
I feel so bad for him. He limps and everything and when he gets excited he jumps up and lands on it again. It makes me so sad that he can't be his normal energetic self. Has your pet ever hurt themselves and you felt absolutely terrible? Stories? |
My dog will run in circles around our inground pool. It's stone slabs all around it. She wears her paws down until they bleed. But the thing is, we can't keep her inside our she goes nuts, jumps on tables, all that stuff ._.
Anyway, it's really kinda pathetic when she limps around for three days afterwards... Or... when her and our other dogs gets into fights, and the little one gets hurt... she limps around as it is, probably due to arthritis. Anyway... to help your dog, I'd keep it as calm as possible. If it gets pretty bad, contact a vet, but we usually wait a day or two to see how it does. Keep an eye on it, and give it lots of love >w< |
We try to keep him calm, but he's been cooped up for awhile now. We had to bring him with us because I had a tournament in another town and he couldn't stay home alone.
We've went to the vet already because my dad thought it was broken since he was yelping so much, but now he just wants to run around. Thanks for the advice though! |
Sit on him >:3
No, I'm kidding. I'd say, just let the stubborn thing run around for a bit, lol. If it gets hurt more, it'll learn >O> Oh, one of my cats used to like pretending like his paw hurt XD |
That's funny! The best thing my old cat used to do was drag his pail of food around. He was really lazy and would lie down on his belly to eat, but he was super funny.
|
Don't have a pet bt is fancie by cats. They flock around me when I'm sing. Not that I'm a fairy tale princess type but they just like to listen.
|
My dalmation will scratch at her food dish until we move it, then she'll scratch at the floor >> Sometimes, if she's really wanting food, she'll bring someone's shoe out to the living room for some reason XD

Oh my! Talking about sprained ankles on animals! I thought it's about humans.. but oh well. For animals, I've mostly raised dogs at my house. Best (my dog's name) got into a car crash, one of his legs are like... fractured. We tried alot of thing, bring him to the dogtor and such, but he never really recovered like he was before. He can walk normally, but there is still the scar on his leg and he shuffle a bit when he walks. He stayed with me for such a long time, more then 10 years, and finally when his time is up, he ran away from home. I never saw him again. It's true, I've heard that sometimes when the dog love their owner very much, when it's their time to go, they leave without a trail. We tried to find him, but we never did.
Another doggy.. Scoopy, rottweiler. Because of the huge body weigh that he carries, he got into an accident. we were throwing him some bread and he jumps up and catch it, but he hit something, i don't quite remember and end up on the floor, concussion. We hurried him to the vet. Figure out that when he fall down, some nerve on his spine was out of place and pressed. He was like paralyzed for quite some time. His front legs are stiff and he have a super hard time walking around. We have to do therapy for him, exercise his legs to help it recover. The only way to get him walking correctly again is to bring it to the big city and get a surgery. We didn't do that, but he's alright now, at least he can walk. I would love to have a cat, they seem like a very good listener. I never have them, so I really want to make a pet out of one. My dogs listens to me. especially Best. I miss him T T |
Awe, thats so sad. I'm very sorry for that.
I've had quite a few cats over the years. They are good listeners I suppose, even though they act stuck up and think they're the king( or queen) of the house. I always enjoyed how they would come sleep or wit with you when they felt like and that they were low maintenance, but after getting my dog, I like him more. He actually likes to be around people and doesn't only see you as the person who gives him food, but someone he can protect. Maybe that sounds crazy, but I think I'm really attached to him. |
My dog's back legs hurt him sometimes to the point where he can't walk ;o; We can't really afford to do anything about it and he is getting old for his size of dog (a big-ish medium dog and he's 7-8 years old).

It's even worse when you CAUSE their injury D: When we got my cat that I have now - it was a little kitten that fit in the palm of my hand (and to this day I have never met anyone with smaller hands than me - they're that small). So I was just walking in the living room and all of a sudden I hear a loud squeal and cry in pain and I look down and my kitten had run underneath my foot and I had stepped on his paw. He was huddled in a little ball nursing his paw and I just cried. I felt horrible. I picked him up and held him for an hour crying. It was so sad - my parents couldn't make me stop crying. Eventually I put him down because he had gotten over it and wanted to go play. and he was limping for the rest of the day. My brother still teases me about it and I still feel horrible. If I had seen him I would have prevented the occurance but he was so tiny I didn't see him. TT_TT

I don't think I'll ever be ready for my dog to get old. I'd feel so bad and end up thinking about things more than I should and all that jazz.
|
One time, when we just got or pet (she was REALLY small by the way) I accidentally stepped on her foot when I was getting out of bed (she was sleeping like right beside it, in that weird to the side thing, and I just stepped on it). For about a week she was limping, but stopped after that.
But, that was when she was little, now my kitty is Evil!. |
And that is why I don't like small pets unless they are in a cage ^^:

Make sure to give your dog a brace *nods*
My cat didn't hurt herself but she did get hurt. When she was a kitten, my brother's friend accidentally kicked her down the stairs, he was trying to keep me from falling (I was carrying a huge box downstairs), and she went down... Her claw got caught in her nose, and ripped a huge hole, she bled all over the place. The vet said she wouldn't make it, so I kept her at home. I got the blood to stop, and I layed with her all night. rom the fall, she went blind, and she kept going around in circles, hitting her head on anything in front of her, she was also weak to the point that she couldn't walk straight up, she had to lean against something. I nursed her back to health, and now she's my little special ed kitty. She's the most cute, and playful kitty. Anyone who comes over absolutely loves her. She's about 2 years old, and she's still the size she was when she had her accident, and she walks around like a horse, with her paws out in front of her. And she LOVES to cuddle, unlike most cats who want nothing to do with you. The only downside I guess is I have to bathe her, since she wont really herself. The other cat's clean her, but sometimes she just really needs a bath. But she doesn't seem to mind, as long as I'm talking to her :) Here's a picture She's asleep next to our mother dog. She tends to sleep with someone, or another animal. She doesn't like to sleep alone. |
Aww. :[ My cat has never gotten hurt. He's really careful I guess. The only bad thing that has happened to him is he got fleas once. My bf's cat got sick once from eating so many fishflies. o.o [We lived right by the lake, so a few always managed to sneak in when we opened doors]. We had to take him to the vet and stuff, but he was ok. ^--^ |
I've never had a dog or cat or anything of that sort.
My parents are completely against it. The only pets I have or had are birds and fish...lots of fish. And I don't think fish can sprain anything : / |
Awe, kitten stories always make me so sad. They start out so cute and innocent, then the clawing stage comes in.
Maybe fish could sprain their gills and not breathe or something. That would be weird, but slightly amusing on how they would be able to do it. Just having who can gulp in the most water contest. Ha. : - ) |
One of my past cats, Wallpaint.. Had a eating problem? xD He would eat so much that, one day he walked over something and it ripped his belly open a tad. We didn't notice it until later, and went took him to surgery. About.. A few months? I don't know, I was quite young- he opened it again. x_x Not sure what happened to him. ; w; After he got his second stitch job done to him, we ended up moving and couldn't take him with us. He went to a friend that owns a meat shop, so he's well-fed, haha. 8D <3 Bah- animals make me so sad sometimes. It's hard to deal with the fact they don't have a very long life span. ._. |
Wow, I don't think I could handle that! I hate seeing anything get hurt, let alone want to see a stomach getting opened a bit. I suppose I'm a bit of a wimp, but I always feel sorry for anything that gets hurt, even if it's that things fault.
I had a cat who loved to eat, a little too much. I would always jiggle his fat just for my own amusement. He ended up hurting his leg one day because some guy kicked him. He would crawl around on the floor after that for a couple of months. It was really depressing for me because he would always cuddle with me, but he was okay after that. |
@Lapin; ... Some guy kicked your cat? Man, I would've kicked him in the face and cussed rainbows at him. o_o |
I had a budgie who smacked into a cage wall and broke his wing..
But that's not the worst budgie story in my family. My sister once didn't close the door properly and her budgie flew out, and never came back. :( |
@ Hon;
Oh I did. I gave him a piece of my mind and a nice smack! Oh, I have a bird story! We we're cooking one day and the birds were out flyning around. We had a breeding pair of cockateils, which was pretty awesome. Anyway, only the female could fly, because we clipped the males wings since we would smack into things. She decided to fly into the kitchen and sit on the burner. I almost died I was so scared! Luckily my dad had forgot to turn it on. |
my pet (a fish xDD) hasnt hurt himself yet, but my friend's cousin has the same type of fish and it committed suicide by jumping out of the feeding hole on the top of the tank. i put my fish on suicide watch for about a week before deciding it was too fat to jump out of the hole.
i hope your puppy feels better |
@ Lemons
Okay, that made me fall out of my chair. |
