Wow, look at all these hangouts...
Ever since I joined Menewsha, I've mostly hung out at General Discussions, venturing forth once in a while if the forum grows slow.
Well, exploration brought me to Menewsha Nations. I've dropped in a couple times, but was always too flustered to really post much. I see a couple "Invites only" and many hangouts with names of users who I don't know And of course, I'm not going to start a hangout if I'm not really familiar with one... SO, my question, how do you you usually go about choosing hangouts, joining one, etc. ? Would it be awkward if some new person comes into your hangout? O.o? Sorry to sound like a newb... |
The Nation is one of my favorite places to be.
I jump into a Hangout depending on a few things. One thing would be the Title. If it seems interesting, I poke around a bit in the first few posts. If it catches my attention, I post. Sometimes, I even check the number of pages. Though I don't do it as often, I feel a little less invited into a thread that's larger. But if there are people I know in there, I jump in and make myself at home. Another point. I look for familiar names. I don't feel awkward when someone new comes in. |
Yeah, the number of pages often scares me off, too...
|
You don't sound like a newb.
Well, I joined a Menewsha Nation that was actually before a hangout on an event. And from the event a nation was created for the people that used to hang out in the even thread. But the owner told me to fuck off for no reason apparently. So I haven't been there since. |

Menewsha Nation is my home. I hang in multiple threads and made lotsa friends there. XP It feels weerd when newbies invade my home, But I sorta get used to it. |
Life, I feel exactly like you do. I went in there last night and felt kind of intimidated because there were so many and I didn't know if they wanted new people to come in or what?
|
I don't post very often in Menewsha Nations anymore.
I just don't have a lot of extra time for idle chatter and discussion about what's going on in some stranger's life at the moment... Well, it's okay to read and respond to when I have a lot of extra time, but since getting this position, I don't have it. XD; I used to feel very intimidated about posting in other people's threads. And the page count would intimidate me. That's why I went ahead and made my own, styling it to my preferences (long, conversational posts, please! - Everyone welcome!!). But the first thing I 'abandoned' when I got busy was my Menewsha Nations thread. >_> Not because I didn't enjoy talking with those people who became my regulars, but, again, I don't really have the extra time to spend discussing someone else's offline lives. I'd much rather talk about their lives on Menewsha. Anyway - I said I "used to be" shy about posting in someone's Menewsha Nations threads. I eventually realized that most people on Menewsha Nations want people to post in their threads. New people too! But I always read the first page of a MN thread to see if they were one of those 'most people' and then skipped down to the last few pages to see what the current topic was. Sometimes, if I was uncertain, I'd look a few pages back to see if anyone new poked their noses in and how they were greeted. If with open arms, I'd post. |
I feel the same way. When I went to Nations, I posted a few times and had one nice conversation, but once it died I felt left out again. I tend to stay away, and stick to the charity and exchange forums for casual discussion. ^^;; And I only really post in one exchange thread, either. Guess I'm just anti-social enough to only really post in the General Discussion forum. |
I like the Menewsha nations. It's the first place I ever really made friends on Menewsha. The first hangut I started really participating in was the future oldbies thread. I made such good friends there.
I tried a few others without much luck when I was getting to know people. I didn't feel very welcome there. So I left the nations alone appart from that one. But now that I know people on Mene there's very few hangouts I can find without someone in there that I know, so now I jump into hangouts at will. The thing that attracts me to a hangout is the name and who created it. Like I wouldn't have gone into senpais from the hangout name, but I do love Senpai so I visited anywy, but I've also been into hangouts when I have no idea about the creator because the name seemed interesting. |
I've started going into Menewsha nations a bit more lately. It's a nice place to get to know everyone and chat (when I have the time). I hate getting separated from you users, so I try to make it a point to post in there whenever I can and talk. Nations is really the easiest place to jump into a conversation half-way through.
I've always been a bit shy about posting in places I haven't been before, but I got over that once I created my own hang-out. No one is as scary as they look, and quite a few of us welcome new comers with open arms. |
When I first joined Mene I started a hangout of my own because I was intimidated by all the pages on most of them. I haven't been on that much lately though so it failed :(
|
Yeah, I got scared by the Nations too. So many threads, and they all seem so small and private!
I'm a professional lurker, and I hate feeling like I'm barging into someone's conversation. Now, if it's a big thread with a lot of random people, and they're all talking about a fairly neutral subject that I feel I can contribute to - NO PROBLEM. I found somewhere to post! And then the thread dies, invariably... But really, I just don't know where to break in. I see people all over the place saying, don't worry just say hi. But that makes me feel weird, too. I'd kinda like to start my own hangout, you know? With a good title that would draw people that like to talk about similar things as me... But there's already so many threads, and no one knows me so why would they stop by. Meh. I suppose I'll just have to hang in there. Eventually I'll know enough people here that I'll find a thread or two to 'haunt'. XD |
I started off the same. I would solely hang out in the General Discussion and dabble in other forums. Once I got to talking to a few people in my Nations thread, I finally made friends. xD But before it got to...about 900 pages, I would just drop in any fast moving thread for conversation. Didn't matter to me who was in them or how big it was. If it was active, I wanted to talk. :3 Just a shameless plug, if you guys ever want somewhere to talk, there's usually someone always in my thread: TK's Hole in the Wall. xD Feel free to just drop by. Everyone's welcome, you can jump into the topics or just say hi, and we won't ignore you or anything. ^^ |

;) Have to let people know that even though I have one of those scary huge threads, we're pretty down to earth. xD I like meeting new people or just getting to know others in general. <3 Really scares me how we grew though. O_o; |
Well if we're doing shameless plugs....
I often just sit in my adoption thread as there's usually someone in there ready to chat about almost anything, whether they're a minute old newbie or a regular, well known oldbie. It's not as intimidating as the hangouts because it's specifically aimed at those who have none :P Hah! Take that TK! :P |
T_T *didn't mean to turn this into a competition* *hides from wrath* xD I was just hoping to dispel any feelings that Nations is nothing but exclusive guilds or something. ^^; |
whats a menewsha nations?
I often get left out. . . if people are in the middle of a conversation they don't want a new person butting in! |
I used to hang in Mene Nations during my really early days, and I migrated out after the threads I was in dropped off and died completely.
|
I like Menewsha Nations. I drop in on any thread that looks interesting and say "hi!".
|
hehe Angel can't help it. *pets TK*
Menewsha Nations is a subforum in general discussion Caeluma. I think a common belief is if people are chatting they don't want strangers barging in. But I've yet to see the truth in this. If people don't want to meet new people they'd make their nations private, and if they were having a conversation they don't want interupted they'd take it to PMs. |
Hey, Jamjam! ^.^
Glad you like my Easter avatar outfit. You're right. The threads in menewsha nations that are members only have that in the title. Otherwise they may end up with my wide text tagging their pages. >w< |
*strokes Spirits outfit* So pretty.
*nod nod* I think the main reason people make nations is because they're LOOKING for people to jump in and talk to them. One of the things I find myself saying so often is "Don't be afraid to just jump into a conversation". People really don't mind it, in fact they welcome it. |
I chose by making it, but no one else chose mine :/. I like the topic of discussions that I use, but no one else seems to be attracted to the lyric title :(.
|
I think yours is a good example of a hangout I won't visit. And I'll tell you why, not as a personal dig, but as it pertains to the discussion.
The title isn't appealing. I don't know the song it's from and I don't like threads that just have lines from songs. It doesn't show any origionality and isn't origional. But if I did happen to click on it, a single line on the first post doesn't really encourage me to talk. |
