I need some ideas..

for background music/general hangout music for my upcoming wedding.. :o

like slow, sweet love songs or something like that xP

got any ideas? we don't have a live band so we're just going to get some music from a cd at the reception..

~if you have been to wedding, what kind of music did they play there?
~best love songs you have heard?

and please, lets have real conversation here, not just copying the questions and answering them, okay? :)

OOH! Uhmm... well.. a lot of the GOOD sweet love songs I've heard are in japanese.. :[

x - Faith Hill "If I'm Not In Love With You"

x - Yuna Ito "Endless Story" (same song as above but it's partly in english and mostly in japanese.. i like her voice better.. :/)

I also liked "A Dream is a Wish your Heart makes" in the disney Cinderella movie. <33

x - First Love by Utada Hikaru is in all Japanese though.

@[email protected] I should listen to more english songs so I could help you out...

Some songs I remember from weddings are 'Sorrento Moon' (Tina Arena), 'Say It Once' (Ultra), 'Eternal Flame' (Bangles), 'Rush' (Paula Abdul) and 'Wishing on the Same Star' (Girlfriend).

Sagitar 04-08-2008 01:30 PM

wish you know, I only have japanese songs so far... xD my family has never heard any so it's going to be interesting..

Pkero 04-08-2008 01:43 PM

First and foremost, congratulations, Sagitar. :3

Secondly, pick any music you like. If I were in your shoes (or your dress, har har) I'd ask my bridesmaids or maid of honor for suggestions as well.

Listen to a country station for a while  Plenty of good songs there, I'm sure.

crunky 04-08-2008 01:46 PM

I will edit this post as I think of more songs but my favorite of all time is:

I'll take care of you by Steven Curtis Chapman

listen here:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X4rxUnahSnc

It has a modern Frank Sinatra feel I think and the words are perfect for a wedding/marriage. That was my song for our wedding dance and the song that plays when my hubby calls my cell phone ^_^

congratulations on getting married, its a very special time in your life! =)

Arkeyla 04-08-2008 02:04 PM

Another one - old and sappy but still cool - is 'Everything I Do' by Bryan Adams. You might remember it from the movie 'Robin Hood Prince of Thieves'.

I'd ask if I had any ^^;
unfortunately, I don't trust my friends to those jobs, they are always late xP

thank you everyone for the suggestions!
keep on posting more, this is good stuff :3 I know nothing about love songs xP

Well, it depends upon your own taste in music, too. You don't want to be listening to songs you don't like on your wedding day!

I know that if we'd have had the typical cheesy songs most people play at their weddings, I'd have hated it!
Robbie Williams, Whitney Houston and Celine Dion? No thanks!

Just go through your own music collection, and pick out songs you like. Even if you chose a load of album tracks and songs most people won't have heard of, it doesn't matter. Your day, your rules, what you say goes!

A few examples of the music we had at our wedding:

(All links are from Youtube.)

Imogen Heap - Can't Take It In
(Two of our bridesmaids also sang a piano cover of this while we signed the register. It was really beautiful, wish we could've recorded it. )

The Delays- Nearer Than Heaven

Biffy Clyro - Umbrella (cover)

The Delays- Hey Girl

Sufjan Stevens - That Dress Looks Nice On You

Bright Eyes- First Day of My Life

The Beach Boys - God Only Knows

Death Cab For Cutie- I Will Follow You Into The Dark

Death Cab For Cutie- Passenger Seat

And quite a few tracks by Regina Spektor-

Us

Samson

Better

Somedays

Okay, I'll stop now!

Cows Go Moo 04-08-2008 03:08 PM

Congratulations :D. Anyway I've got some songs, but I'm not sure if it's considered "slow". At least for me it's considered kind of slow[<--Listens to loud songs]

Stolen by Dashboard Confessional
Afterglow by Vanessa Carlton
Someone Somewhere by Jason Reeves

Titenya 04-08-2008 03:09 PM

another really pretty song is Butterfly Kisses, I'm not sure who it's by. They played it at a wedding I went to in the fall. Also there are a few slower beatles songs that would be very pretty as well as some by Elvis.

crunky 04-08-2008 03:17 PM

Do you have any songs picked out so far? For the Father/Daughter dance I went cliche and had "Butterfly Kisses" by Bob Carlise. I usually try not to follow the crowd but my dad really liked the song and you really can't go wrong with it. Otherwise I didn't do anything else the same, I even had my friend write a different piece for when I walk do the isle because I am sick of "Canon in D" *bleh* For the Mothers lighting the candle I played a song my friend has written and it fit so well. He was really excited because I was the first person to use the song for anything. I was looking at some sites online and this site has it all broken down with songs for every part of the wedding.

Its actually a pretty good resource. You can always just youtube most of the songs like other people have been doing in the thread.

EDIT: another awesome song that I have only ever heard played at wedding once and it was my wedding =P:
When You Say You Love Me by Josh Groban

Sadistix_Love 04-08-2008 05:35 PM

OPh congratulations! I wish you the best wedding you could ever have! I can't talk much cause i'm in class and, er being monitored. xD

I love the song "Careless Whisper" by George Michael in wedding. Even though it's a bit sad the song, but it's romantic. <3 I can't really think of anything else but I remember most perfect songs in weddings dates back at least ten years ago.

Sagitar 04-08-2008 05:44 PM

thanks Sadistix_Love ^^

I wonder how many songs I need.. O.o so far I have collected 65.. D: and I might have to take something off....

Sagitar 04-08-2008 05:50 PM

Cherry Who? 04-08-2008 08:11 PM

I think the Aerosmith songs "Angel" and "Don't Wanna Miss a Thing" are perfect for that kind of thing. ^^ They're slow, sweet, but still have a nice rock sound to them.

Also, I wish you and your future hubby luck in your marriage. ^^

Titenya 04-08-2008 08:17 PM

south park... hmm.. how about "i'm sailing away...." that's a nice slow song...

Purdy Possum Pie 04-09-2008 03:46 AM

I did not have music or dance at mine it was a small church wedding with a little reception... it was ment to be perfect but fell all to HECK lol so good luck with yours.

My cousin had the big one with a huge reception and dancing I can not remember for sure the music...

If I could have had music the ones I would have used would be some of these:
I Swear (John M. Montgomery or All 4 One)
When You Say Nothing At All (Allison Krauss)
I Can Love you Like That (John M. Montgomery) *John is the man lol he says what every girl wants to hear*
Everything I Do {I Do For You} (Bryan Adams)
When A Man Loves A Woman (Percy Sledge or Michael Bolton)* I love Percy Sledge*
From This Moment On (Shania Twain)
