just click the x. it should show up

Azureile 04-09-2008 04:33 AM

I don't think images like that in your posts are allowed if they're in every post. ^^;

Waffle 04-09-2008 04:33 AM

I think that's abusing the gold system.

bearysplash 04-09-2008 04:34 AM

oh oks.
well i was just wondering.
i didnt want to go and use it and get banned or something
thank you everyone

Amo_Angelus 04-09-2008 04:35 AM

I know it's abusing the gold system and is not allowed and is also listed as one of the big no nos in wherever it is that lists what you can and can't include in your posts.

bearysplash 04-09-2008 04:36 AM

ok.
Thank you very much everyone.

CK 04-09-2008 04:37 AM

It's definitely not allowed on Menewsha currently. There is still talk about whether or not it'll be allowed when we do the software switch. ^^

bearysplash 04-09-2008 04:38 AM

So far there is only 1 site like this that allows it.
and i am not talking about gaia

Amo_Angelus 04-09-2008 05:28 AM

NOOO CK NOOOOOO!!! It makes text so annoying and hard to read. Aren't our fonts, avatars and siggies enough decoration?

CK 04-09-2008 06:51 AM

I personally think so. I never have liked the habit of adding quotes or images before and after each post. It distracts me from the post itself. *shrugs*

But some people argue that it adds to the originality/creativity of their posts. So the staff is considering it.

A Feedback discussion on the idea might be useful.

Amo_Angelus 04-09-2008 08:18 AM

If they want to be creative and origional, dress your avatar and use a unique siggy and make your posts reflect you.

I hate it. I never liked it on Gaia and I'll deffinatly hate it on here.

Veelana 04-09-2008 12:52 PM

Uuugh - this is really annoying because it makes the pages loade slower...

Agreed, agreed, agreed...
*puts foot down*

Wordstreamer 04-09-2008 06:16 PM

I thought that some of the ones on Gaia were kind of cute... Like the ones that had a chibi or sprite of their avi in the post?

I think that it'd be interesting... But, yeah. Siggy-size images at the top and the bottom of your posts? Nuu....

If you guys DO decide to allow it, please make a size requirement? XP I don't care if it's small... But when there's more of that in the post than the actual post itself, it IS annoying.

Edit: Although this brings up a related question that I've been wondering about for a bit. It may have already been asked/answered someplace else and I missed it... Is gradient font going to be allowed in the new software system, given that it would no longer be an abuse of the gold system? I'm not asking about a twenty-different-color post; I'm curious because I like using a few-color (four or five? They're all fairly closely related) gradient in my instant messenger test, and have always thought that it would be fun to use elsewhere. (Can't get it to work on Gaia. No guarantee I'd even use it on here; just wondering if it will still be on the wrong end of the "allowed" stick.)

jellysundae 04-09-2008 06:36 PM

People will be able to use gradient text once we switch.

but the "flob" issue does appear to be a bit of a bone of contention http://i19.tinypic.com/5zogiom.gif

I used to sometimes add an image before and after my posts on Gaia, but they were just small pretty things in the corners, not something huge that would effect page loading times.

I can't see that we'll ever be able to please everyone with an issue like this, sadly ._.
Because some people feel very strongly about both sides of the arguement.

Wordstreamer 04-09-2008 08:11 PM

Yea! That's nice to know, at least. Thanks, Jelly.

Amo_Angelus 04-09-2008 08:36 PM

See if it was just pretty corner decoration it wouldn't be too bad. Not good, but not too bad. But like the example provided and huge art, and animated art.... it makes posts look ugly and lowers down the loading times and makes things hard to read.

I mean the example provided... WHY do you want to put off topic words around your posts? Why on earth does light and dark have to do with a majority of anything you're ever likely to post?

And on Gaia (The only site I know that allows these so I will use it as an example) People have huge avatar art with speach bubbles... HELLO! You already have an avater beside your posts. WHY add another?

If you do it there needs to be restrictions, but I hope that you never ever implement it as it takes away from what your actually posting.

Definately. Also I find that the text gets lost in the image. Besides, if people are allowed to use them, it's unfair for those that don't want to/don't know how to, seeing as such a thing would gain a lot of gold!

Eserel 04-10-2008 01:56 PM

.-.
Maybe you guys could say you can only have one image per post, and that post with the image is once per page?
Then you kind of please everyone.
So there isn't a ton,
But flobs could still be allowed along with those who want an icon.

They already said that this would not give gold in the new software which is why they're considering it...

CK 04-10-2008 08:30 PM

Not quite... Image URLs still give gold, just not the [img] tag around it.

Amo_Angelus 04-10-2008 08:36 PM

Then it shouldn't be allowed

Eserel 04-10-2008 11:19 PM

.-.
Then it still defeats the purpose if you give gold for the link of the image.
Or does everything inside the tags count as no gold?
