Turtle wagged his tail. He'd gotten his point across! He didn't want them to think he was just a dirty old creature, and he wanted them to know why he couldn't be "cleaned inside and out." The maggots were very clean and friendly, and only ate dead cells, so they would be of no threat to anyone else. Turtle kept them happy and comfortable, so they helped him. Turtle was pretty much just a walking proof that symbiotic relationships could be absolutely beneficial to both parties.
|
[[lol Steffox gave me a good place to step in =D YES COOKIE.]]
"Turtle, an interesting name." Ari murmured as his eyes scanned the pages, though the corners of his lips dragged downwards as he read on. "An even more interesting creature, I would say. Hey, how are you supposed to hunt a dead animal, so to say? I mean aren't they all kind of... just there waiting for you?" He asked Turtle directly. |
((....! AHAHAHAHAAA! Good point! But it actually makes this more interesting))
A little spark of life lit up the Turtle's dead eyes as he grinned doggishly. How could he explain... that because he was a dead dog... there were other dead creatures in the world as well... and that he could eat them. He imagined that the company would sleep less soundly knowing that there were dead bears, elk and rabbits running around in the woods, unstoppable and unsatiable... and rotting, no less. Plus it wasn't as if he had to eat every day. |
[[Now Steffie gets a cookie!
And I get a Snickers bar.]] Yuki was also left to wonder about the Dream Catcher's odd word choice. Hunting for dead animals? He could hardly make sense of it. Perhaps it had been some sort of mistake. While he waited for something to do, he looked over at the kitchen. Micheal was a very quiet man, and Yuki had initially judged him as cold, but something seemed to have bothered him after Yume had spoken. |
((hey wow, what'd I get a cookie for? *nomnomnoms* not that I'm complaining.))
Since all that was cleared up, Turtle carefully grabbed a mouthful of papers in his loose jaw, mostly trying not to ruin himself again. With the chapters on punishment and some of the more awful experiment results in his possession, he trotted out into the woods on doggish business. ((and now I return home to my internet-less abode. See you tomorrow!! XD )) |
[[Aw, see you tomorrow Steffie!
NOOOOOOOOO COME BACK!! *clings* You get a cookie for creating opportunities? Yeah, that's it! ]] Yuki wondered if it was wise to follow Turtle. He decided against it, trusting the hound's judgment. Turtle was smart enough to do what was necessary. As time went by, it was harder not to follow the hound, but when he was about to stand up, he heard something coming from the master bedroom. By the time the sound had gotten loud enough to bother him, his mother was standing a few feet away from him. "Mama!" He went over to her, knowing it would probably be a bad idea to touch her if she was still warm. "Hello, dearest," Shan said, touching Yuki on the forehead. She was still considerably warm, and her cheeks were flushed, but she showed no signs of collapsing. A few minutes ago Shan had woken up and realized that she was no longer hearing the horrid shrill of the whistle. The second thing she noticed was that she had absolutely no idea where she was. The third was Phineas, who she discovered lying pretty close to her on the bed. She had stood up suddenly, and when she thought that her back had nearly split in half, she laid back down and tried getting up again soon after, this time more slowly. Finding herself capable of moving, she kissed Phineas on the cheek before setting out to find out where she was. Her movements were not sluggish, but they gave no sign of her usual elegance. She saw that no one had tried to attack her, and so she moved with less caution. When she stopped, she found herself in the presence of Yuki, Ani, and Ari, who all seemed to have been occupied by something before she'd come in. Yuki remembered something suddenly, and told his mother, "um... mister Micheal wanted to talk to you about something." |
((Sorry I left so suddenly, I had an exam to get too. x.x))
Ani looked after Turtle who had gone into the forest and her salivated hands, "I guess reattaching his jaws can wait until he gets back..." She said with a laugh. She had left before Shan had made her appearance. She walked over to sink in the trailer and opened it, washing her hands with the warm water as well as the pink fragrant soap. In no time her hands were squeaky clean. She was in the semi kitchen area and thought for a moment, plates would be lovely and silverware..she was sure that the DreamCatcher had some in his trailer. She opened an adjoined cabinet to find exactly what she needed. This was great! Now everyone can eat some food and have a good time since they were all together again and hadnt had a decent meal since Phineas disappeared. Ani's hands were full with plates, and spoons as well as several tasty ingredients from the cabinets. She squeezed past the crowd by the trailer door and before stopping to smile at Shan, "Your up! Welcome back Shan. I hope your feeling much better.." She said as she left to walk back to Micheal. Micheal had chopped the things that Ani asked of him. Even though there wasnt any seasoning in there, the natural flavors of carrots, cabbage, peppers, peas and several other things mixed together making a very delicious aroma. |
[[It's okay~ How did it go?<< not nosy. really. *cough*]]
"I am better, thank you," Shan said. "I feel stiff, but it isn't like before, when I could not move." She followed Ani, expecting to ask her if she knew where Micheal was. She didn't think he would actually be there. Shan was aware of the sweet aroma of food, but much more aware of the Fallen before her. "My son said there was something you wanted to tell me." She folded her wings so that she would not take up much space near the wall she was standing closest to. Her encounter with the whistle had actually left her feeling rather useless. |
(( ^^ It was easier than I expected...and it was for one of my most weaker classes, Chemistry. So that made me happy ^^))
Ani had placed all the items on the floor. She began opening the DreamCatchers supply of spices and herbs, a pinch of this a little of that and she was stirring to a wonderful smell. Her stomach tumbled a little in hunger. She bet that they would of liked to have some meat to eat, but she only had vegetables at her fingertips. This would taste just as good, she was sure. The stew was thick and bubbling lightly as she stirred. Micheal looked up from the cooking food to Shan, she was awake, how wonderful he thought to himself. He stated rather blandly, not really going to speak to her in private. This concerned her whole team, did it not? "Your DreamWeaver contacted through your boy. She wants no more stops and slacking. She is loosing control of herself and cannot hold off for much longer. If she is lost, she will create much damage that can not be fixed." He said in one monotone voice, and breath. "Or something along those lines." He said before he took the spoon from Ani and stirred the broth. It was nearly done, the vegetables needed to become a little more soft to eat before it was done. He wanted something to do in and helping Ani when she had helped him was something he could do. |
[[Glad to hear it! I'm always nervous during tests so that easier than expected feeling is always such a relief~ ]]
"Or something along those lines," he says. She knew that Yume would never accuse her of slacking, but the term felt pretty accurate. She sighed and looked down at the floor. She blamed herself for not being strong enough. If she had been stronger the first time she had come here, none of them would have been dragged into this. Shan had been able to take down every single enemy she encountered, even when some were difficult to deal with, but the one who had done her in was herself. She was unable to overcome a dreadful reoccurring nightmare of hers, and had almost not made it back home. When she'd made it to the doors of the large white house, she had been found in a very poor state and not herself. She had for some time been reduced to a sobbing child. And her back... She gave herself a small mental shake. Now was not the time to think about what had happened to her. Yume was dying from the inside out, and in Shan's eyes, this was due to her own incompetence. She would have to force the group to travel even in the hours before dawn. They would stop only to eat and sleep. If there was talking to be done it would be done while walking. If anyone so happened to lag behind, they would be left there. But for now, let them enjoy dinner. Let them enjoy comfort and let them heal. This could be their last comfortable night. |
((Back! XD I love living this close to work!! I wake up a whole hour later than I did from home and I get to work a half hour earlier! Glad your test went well, DustyDee!))
Turtle came back out of the woods, no sign of the papers. Not even a whole forensics team would be able to find them. The dog looked fairly pleased; now that he was freed, he was discovering some interesting things about himself. There was a little rustle in the bushes behind him as he walked out into the clearing with the collapsed tent in it. He glanced over his shoulder and the rustle stopped suddenly with a small clattery noise, which sounded a bit soft, though dry. Turtle's grin grew wider. |
[[I wish I lived close to my college. But no, I have to take buses. I get uncomfortable *hides* ]]
Yuki couldn't help but feel worried, and finally decided to go outside to look for the ever smiling hound. He stepped outside and called out for the hound. "Turtle!" Yuki told himself that perhaps it would have been better if he had come out to look for him. Something could have happened while the hound was away. "Turtle?" |
Turtle trotted around the corner of the caravan and approached Yuki, smiling and wagging his tail. Everything was good. The dog knew how to take care of himself, almost wolfishly instinctive in his attitude towards anything not human. He pushed his nose into Yuki's hand in greeting.
The bushes were silent. |
Yuki smiled at the hound. That smile would soon become contagious, being so large and all. "You were beginning to worry me, there," Yuki said, going back inside. "You took a bit longer than I expected." As he went inside, Yuki was hit by the smell of food again. He realized he was actually very hungry. He figured it made sense. After all, his stomach had been emptied of its contents a while ago.
|
Turtle followed Yuki inside, his tail dropping self consciously as he crossed the threshhold. The food smelled good, but he'd already "eaten".
|
Shan watched as her son came into the kitchen, closely followed by the hound. She was startled at Turtle's happy-looking jaw, but said nothing. She was looking at Yuki when she finally noticed it. "Yu-chan, where is your shirt?" She was going to ask him what had happened, but the sight of Yuki shirtless had completely stumped her. It was very unusual, unless he was getting sick.
"Oh! uh... I was starting to get hot," he answered, once again aware of himself. "But I feel fine, really." He could see the worry on his mother's face, and he understood why, but he really was fine. He saw her looking at the hellhound and said quickly,"Oh, this is Turtle. He brought us here after, well..." "I see," said Shan, so that Yuki wouldn't have to keep going. The hound looked very familiar, although her memory was not being kind to her about the last hours. |
Ani had tasted a bit of the soup to find her tastebuds were alive with happiness, and her stomach grumbled a little more. "Its all finished!" She said looking at Micheal. "Ill go get everyone.." She replied walking over to the trailer where the group was mostly, She peeked her head in, "Hey guys, the foods finished, come on out lets eat.." She said smiling at them, before saying to Yuki, "We will fix Turtles jaw after dinner."
Micheal had taken the bowls that Ani had brought out and had evenly spread the soup for everyone. He took his own bowl and walked over to the spot that he sat before, a flat rock near the entrance of the forest. The soup indeed tasted delicious he ate slowly as it was the first meal he had in quite a while. |
[[woah, my internet flaked for a few seconds. ]]
"Alright, miss," Yuki said before heading over to eat. His stomach threatened to growl loudly the longer he waited, and that would be deeply embarrassing to him. He took a seat close to his mother and thanked whoever it was that needed to be thanked for not making the table terribly tall. He was seven and short for his age. Shan seated herself on a far end of the table so that her wings wouldn't be a problem. Eating in this form would have left her feeling extremely irritated had the food not smelled to good. It tasted just as good as it smelled, too, if not better. |
((OMG you changed your hair aaaaah!))
While the live people ate, Turtle went to the master bedroom and sniffed around. There was a wooden box full of fancy perfume in twisting fantasy-necked bottles, the smell of which made the dog sneeze. It took him a moment to snuffle his maggots back into his nose. |
[[Haha, yeah. I found the wig difficult. But now Shan looks more ticked off than surprised. Oh well... ]]
Shan ate slowly, savoring one of the few good meals she'd have in a while. She thought about when to tell the rest of the group that she planned on shortening their already short sleeping hours, and decided on telling them after they'd all rested well for today. As she ate she could feel herself stiffen and then relax, then stiffen again. Her muscles were still not completely free of adverse effects. Occasionally she'd stop moving to wait for her muscles to obey, then she'd continue eating. The single moment that really bothered her was when she'd partially burned the bottom of a vegetable by conducting electricity through her spoon. She ate the burnt piece anyway, as it didn't taste bad. |
Ani had taken a bowl herself and sat down at the table. She ate and savored the flavors in the soup before taking another spoonful. She was glad that she had cooked just enough, as there werent any left anyways. She was sure that Micheal gave everyone the same amount. It was rather quite whilst they ate. The wind blew softly and could be heard over the occasional slurping.
|
Shan put her spoon down flexed the fingers of her left hand, which was the hand she used more often if she used only one. This one was the same hand that had singed a piece of her food and now it was bothering her, because it was supposed to be the hand she exercised more control over. She didn't think it would be as mild if the same thing happened again. Once she had finished eating, she stood up and excused herself, putting her plate in the proper place. "I'll be outside for a while," she said, and headed out.
Yuki, who had not finished eating, had no choice but to stay. He was highly against leaving food uneaten unless one was sick, which he wasn't. He was worried about his mother's slightly strange behavior, but did not rush his meal. When he was nearly done he said, "she must be thinking about something." When his mother was bothered by something, she would lock herself in her room in such a way that it was difficult to get to her, or she'd step outdoors completely. |
One last maggot was snuffled up into the mothership and Turtle was full again. The dog waited a moment for them all to settle back into place. Once everything was in order again, he sat and listened to the oppresive silence in the room, broken only by Phineas' slow breathing. After several moments of indecision, the dog leapt deftly onto the bed and peered at the boy. He was starting to wish that his jaw were fixed, he was sure that he looked like horror incarnate. Luckily the dragon didn't wake up to the sight.
|
[[Let's write some pages just on the deliciousness of Ani's soup!!! XD]]
Ari was grateful for the meal - after several weeks of staling bread with herbs and fruits, he was ready for a hearty meal such as this. As Michael passed him he simply peered curiously at the man, wondering why he wasn't up to partaking the meal with everybody as it was pretty obvious they've... sort of adopted the Fallen into their group, more or less. I wonder where that dog wandered off to... As any young men would do, he dug into his food with gusto. It took him a moment to remember his manners and slow down to actually taste the food, for once. "Wow, this is really good!" He breathed out, almost in surprise. Then he quickly looked at Ani. "Not that I expected for it to be bad, but this is delicious." He flashed her a smile and began to eat again, careful to not slurp. There are ladies in your presence, just remember that. When Shan retreated outside, he watched her go and glanced at Yuki briefly. "Something wrong with her?" Thinking? She had more than just a thinking face on, or so it had appeared to the boy. A light odor of burnt material lingered in the air in her wake, a scent that Ari could have sworn wasn't there a few moments ago. Hallucination? Or perhaps it's just something far away. He told himself, and shrugged mentally. |
[[What about Micheal, he helped too. Or are we bent on hurting his feelings?
LOL Shame on Ari. The seven year old is more careful. How does that make him feel?~]] "Well, maybe not just thinking," Yuki admitted. "Mister Micheal might have reminded her of something extremely unpleasant, but she looked like she was having trouble with her body too. It could be because of the whistle." He couldn't think of anything else that would affect his mother this way, but sometimes her memories would get the better of her. "I hope the effects aren't long term. That would be terrible..." |
