I think it was around finals time and I was at an 'away' college, so they only told me about what happened to him kind of after the fact. I think probably in the sense of, "oh, sorry, you can't talk to dad today because he's flown to Seattle for your grandpa's funeral... >_>" I think I got so upset I hung up on my mom for not having told me. But they, at least, never left me out of the family loop again. Intellectually I know it was to spare me the stress over worrying about how he was doing while I was taking exams, and it wasn't even as if I knew my grandfather all that closely the way people do if their grandparents live within frequent-visits range. Not really. We are all going back to Fort Lewis and only a couple of us are PCSing in Janurary. Two are going to Belguim and I am going to Honduras. I suppose I will miss them but it comes with the job unfortunately.

Ah, I see. So that is how active duty works.
But at least you should keep in touch though. I have been doing my annual training, with is two weeks. We did not go to Ft. Lenorwood though. I guess they did not had us in classes there. At least, we have our training here at home and not having our families worried to death. |

Yeah... I'm a second generation military brat. Uprooting and moving away from family and friends is something you get used to really quickly. You kinda have to. The nice thing about the military, though, is you have a pretty high chance of running across the people again some day. :3
I eventually met the woman who delivered me. (I was born in an army hospital in Germany.) I ran across my aikido instructor a few times after our paths parted ways (he was military and we had classes in my dad's building after work hours). Once, my elementary school had a dad's day. So you like, brought your dad to school with you and he followed you around all day.
This was when I was 8. So, at recess, I was dragging the boy that I liked all around with me, playing with him, and we were completely ignoring our dads. ^-^; Anyway, our dads were standing by the fence, all alone, and got to talking and somehow found out that they had both been stationed on some island at the same time while they had been in the Air Force.
