fairywaif 04-20-2009 01:12 AM

Carbs are the devil. I'm a sinner. I totally had pasta with bread crumbs earlier.

roocee 04-20-2009 01:52 PM

Sorry to hear that kevin.

Flink 04-20-2009 04:13 PM

I had to look gynecomastia up. -pets Lee- Sucks that you'll miss practice.

Plus, my brother thinks I'm looking at porn because of the picture on Wikipedia for gynecomastia. o.o

-snorks- Silly brother.

Cherry Who? 04-20-2009 04:53 PM

Your brother's weird.

Oh god, that reminds me of something that kept happening to my boyfriend a few years ago. He liked to click the random wiki link on Wikipedia to find new, interesting things. And he'd do it like, on and off all day.
For like, A MONTH, the vagina page KEPT COMING UP. I mean, when I hit the random wiki link, I get like, some really obscure town in an obscure country, a song by a band I've never heard of, and if I'm really lucky, something that is remotely useful. He kept getting the vagina page. xD Or sex positions. I think he even got the penis page one time.
And one time one of those pages came up RIGHT as his mom walked into the room and RIGHT as his computer froze. So he couldn't minimize it or X off or anything. He ended up unplugging his computer so she wouldn't see. xDDD

roocee 04-20-2009 05:48 PM

I can honestly say I really don't use wicki often.

General Lee Outrageous 04-20-2009 06:16 PM

I have Wikipedia bookmarked, but that's because I'm really weird and always research the strangest things. I look up stuff from solifugids to Icelandic naming conventions. I'm just odd.

I'm just as weird sometimes.
In the middle of a Social Stuies class at the computer lab, I'll be done my assignment, so I'll randomly search places, things, plants, etc. on Wiki.

My friends'll be like "You're such a nerd."
Oh well.
It's amusing and a good way to kill time.

Elmira Swift 04-20-2009 08:18 PM

Wiki is ok, but you have to really check the sources the author used before you use it for a paper. If I was teaching, I wouldn't accept it as a valid reference - cuz I'm evil like that. It's a good starting point, and the pages usually have good sources at the bottom.

Carbs are my friend, just ask my belleh.

HIM_ROCK 04-20-2009 08:31 PM

I go on Wikipedia to see if a certain band's page has been vandalized again and just to look up compleatly random things like poisenous plants.

I use it pretty frequently. It's quite handy. ^^

Sounds like you. xD I generally look up... well, just whatever comes up. Usually, however, it's either a person, movie/tv show, or a breed of dog.
If I'm watching a movie or just getting into a TV show, I have to read like, every single wikipedia relating to it. I don't know why.

Yeah, you can GET sources from there.
A lot of people who are told by their teachers "don't use wiki as a source" don't even think to look at the sources LISTED ON wiki. Then they have problems finding a good source.

Planning on killing someone?

HIM_ROCK 04-20-2009 08:49 PM

Nah I just like to know which ones not to touch if I go mushrooming.

Elmira Swift 04-20-2009 09:22 PM

That's interesting HIM, because it wasn't that long ago that people were able to pass that info to their kids just through day-to-day interactions. We're a bit out of touch with our environment. Then again... my environment has black widows, brown recluses - in burrows outside - water moccasins and a bunch of other nastiness. Fire ants...

I like wiki because there are a lot of interesting articles that serve as a good jumping off point for thesis statements in papers.

HIM_ROCK 04-20-2009 09:27 PM

My granddad used to go mushrooming so we now have a load of mushroom books somewhere. Just pop out into the woods and go mushrooming with my mushroom book.

There are a few mushrooms I do recognise.

fairywaif 04-20-2009 11:12 PM

HIM, I think that's a really cute picture in you sig! I love the little hairthing you're rockin'.

I use it sometimes, but usually I just google things.

Flink 04-21-2009 12:26 AM

I spend a lot of time reading random articles on Wikipedia. I LOVE clicking the random article to see what'll interest me.

My brother was worried about me for awhile when I was reading about cults and serial killers. XD

Silver Magi 04-21-2009 12:30 AM

XD.
I sometimes like to research them too. D:
'Specially really old cults, and legends about the succubus and sirens, etc.

Myths and mystery = <3

Cherry Who? 04-21-2009 01:14 AM

I like to read about cults sometimes too. xD But it's not in a "ooh, this sounds like a great idea" sort of way so much as I'm interested in psychology, thus, I find manipulation kind of interesting. Just how, from the outside it seems so obvious and stupid, but that people really do get pulled into stuff like that. And then of course, all the psychological issues with the people who start the cults in the first place. It's pretty interesting.

Silver Magi 04-21-2009 01:21 AM

Yeah, it's more of a hobby for me, I don't plan on following the religion, but all the deities and traditions, myths and stuff, it's quite fun to browse through. o:
In fact, I just researched a bit about Voodoo in Haiti/Lousiana.
T'was quite interesting. o:

tentenpuff 04-21-2009 01:40 AM
