I don't rabidly hate Twilight, I just look at it with great distaste. And a sparkly Hitler is very scary. Even without the vampire part.

Flink doesn't mind it until people tell her it's the greatest love story every written, that the author is a genius, and other thins that Flink doesn't believe.

Sure that's they're opinion, but the fact that they dismiss Flink because she doesn't agree is annoying. Especially if they ask her if she recommends the book when in her line and she says no. XD

I've always wanted to work in a bookstore, and not just because I enjoy the (occasional) reading... It just seems a TON better than what else is out there! :sweat:
Plus, people who buy books are less bitchy than people who buy furniture, clothing, food, etc. ... On average, anyway. :roll:

I live near a walmart, but not within walking distance. Not that I'd go anyways. My Mom has shunned the WalMart. They were very rude about her returning some things, and nothing is made in America anymore.

I don't get the whole 'Made in America' thing. :roll:
Especially after taking AP Economics... It's really silly for people to only buy stuff that's made right here in the US, since:
a) It's virtually impossible; in our Econ book, there was this example of a refrigerator. While it may be assembled in the US, every part of the fridge comes from all around the globe. The ice maker, the doors, the refrigeration mechanisms, the lightbulbs... everything.
b) Buying from outside of the U.S. stimulates the economy. The trade of currencies is a major benefit to everyone, since when the Nation's in a deficit, it turns to its Official Reserves (which holds all of the foreign currencies) to help balance the balance of payments. Which means less debt amassed! Of course, when the Official Reserves runs out, we go into a deficit... Which leads to a recession... Which leads to a mess of political ugliness.

I don't know, sorry to go off on a mini-random-not-so-ranty-rant. I'm just lame like that, and all that's on my mind is Econ, since our midterm is upon us. :gonk:

And I live probably about 30 minutes from the nearest WalMart; it's just too out of the way, really. :sweat:

Mostly it's China we worry about. Taiwan etc. is okay. And if you're getting a smaller thing, like a pair of socks it is possible, which is what we usually buy.

Buying INSIDE the US also stimulates the economy. It just helps other countries at the smae time. At least, I'm pretty sure that's how it works...

Flink does work at Wal-Mart. She lives 50 miles away from where she works. The "closest" Wal-Mart is about 45 miles away.

Flink wants to work at a bookstore, too. Probably less people pissed at her about cigarettes there. XD (She works at the tobacco register. x.x)

She applied for a job at a library near her, but they hired an old, old woman. D:

Yeah, don't get me wrong... I have HARDLY A FREAKIN' CLUE how Economics works. The world economy is a HUMONGOUS WEB OF CONFUSION. Doesn't help that my teacher fails, is pregnant, and officially left this past week. BEFORE. OUR GODDAMN. MIDTERM.
She'll be back a month before our AP exam... just in time to grill us to death. :gonk:

Anyway, buying outside the U.S. is ultimately best for the economy, since, well... Where do we get the money to pay off other countries? Not just from ourselves! If we were that independent we would have the need to borrow money off other countries in the first place!

Basically, though, it's hard to buy from inside your own country... Unless you're like, buying local produce, or similar goods.

But here's another example: a pencil.
In order to produce a pencil, you need lead, wood, metal, rubber...
In order to increase the production of pencils, your best bet is to specialize in the production of one of those ingredients of a pencil. And then, of course, to get the remaining ingredients through trade from their respective producers. Guaranteed, they also want to produce pencils; so they'll need the rubber you're producing. So then you'll trade your rubber for their lead, yada yada...

Anyway, while it's easy to make a pencil completely within the U.S., it's not so easy for us to make things like automobiles within the country. We have Ford and other American cars, but Toyota is a huuuge competitor. They're not outside the country anymore, mind you. They have factories in the U.S. So, while the majority of their funds go back to Japan, they employ American workers. They pay the American workers.

The town where Flink works has three, actually. Flink lives at leat 45 minutes from the CLOSEST Wal-Mart. But that one was on hiring freeze while she was job hunting.
