I'm not big on tomatoes in chunks...
|
I like tomato chunks in my salads. :D Same with hard-boiled eggs.
...And a bit of cheddar and a drizzle of olive oil. |
I like tomatoes when they are: Mashed to a pulp, fried, or in cherry form.
|
I like fresh tomatoes. =D Tomato sauce, stewed tomatoes make me shiver. D=
|
I'm pretty much good with tomatoes in any form.
Not to change the subject from foods we find gross, but have any of you seen The Return to Oz? It was my favorite movie when I was a wee lassie, and I just watched it again the other day and found that it's still really good. |
No, I haven't. And in fact, I don't think I've ever heard of it. But woo for childhood favourites maintaining their brilliance. My favourite movie when I was a wee lassie (this was before people had webbed knees) was Bedknobs and Broomsticks. I adored it and pretty much still do <3
|
Return to Oz is awesome. :D As is evident by the name, it's a sequel to Wizard of Oz. Based on the books. It's much much darker, though (which is true, since the books became more dark at this point in the series). Dorothy is back in Kansas, but is obsessed with thoughts of Oz, and it's all she ever talks about, and she can barely sleep. Aunt Em takes her in to get shock treatment therapy, but just as they're about to do it, the power goes out. She manages to escape, and then somehow ends up in Oz, only everyone's been turned to stone, and shit's all creepy.
I definitely recommend watching it. Some people have uploaded it to youtube. |
That sounds very um... I'm not sure I have a superlative for what that sounds like.
|
Yeah.
It's really cool, though. It's dark, and at times pretty scary. Damn wheelers. :gonk: You should definitely try it, though. If you're into dark stuff. |
Have you ever seen The Wednesday Play version of "Alice in Wonderland"? Definitely one of the more trippy versions of it... And my favourite amongst those I have seen
|
No, I've not. But just from what you said, I'd like to! I really love Alice in Wonderland. The trippier, the better.
... Oh, that reminds me of my beautiful illustrated copy of Alice in Wonderland that I lost. :( |
here's a clip of it: Music by Ravi Shankar
And for the hell of it, here a clip from Bedknobs and Broomsticks: |
That Alice in Wonderland clip looks cool! I like the reimagining of the rabbit hole.
The second clip looks fun. But did that guy get propositioned by hookers a minute or so in...? 4:18 - I see he's trying to patent a new silly walk. o: |
Yes, there's something for everyone in B&B
|
Oh, and since we're sharing clips, here's one from Return to Oz.
|
Holy cow, your parents let you watch that?
|
Exactly! I watched it the other night, and then I went to my mom and I was like "You hadn't seen this before you let me watch it, had you?" and she was like "No... it scared me too."
But I loved it, and it's not like it was sending me any bad messages or anything, so she let me watch it. Even though I think I was all of 6. Those wheelers terrified me, though. Every time I heard a squeaky noise, I thought it was one of them. My other favorite movie as a kid was The Nightmare Before Christmas. That's much less dark, but you may be seeing a pattern with my childhood tastes now. |
Well, I guess I shouldn't be shocked by the things parents let their kids watch... My dad used to have me watch Fawlty Towers with him while I was still a toddler...
|
Yeah, it's not like kids can't handle anything that isn't as soft and friendly as an episode of the Wiggles.
I mean, Bambi's mom is shot at the beginning of the movie, the Fox & the Hound ends with a metaphor for racial segregation, and Beauty and the Beast teaches some terrible lessons about loving abusive men. Plenty of kids watch somewhat grown-up stuff. Most of it just goes over their heads, anyway. Like, I doubt that toddler-you picked up on any innuendo in Towers. In that same vein, Return to Oz had some stuff that previously went over my head. I mean, nothing inappropriate, but there were elements in the "real world" and Oz that implied it may have been all in Dorothy's head afterall. Like the "bad guys" in Oz are played by the same actors who played the staff at the treatment facility. |
Yeah, I missed most of the gay jokes in Fawlty Towers for a long time. And you are right about what kids can handle. I guess I've just become a mouthpiece for family values or something? -shivers at the thought of it-
I have to say, things like Bambi and The Fox and the Hound depressed the hell out of me as a child |
No, I get where you're coming from. It's not that you become ultra-conservative, it's just that you forget how much you could handle as a kid and begin seeing them as much more delicate than they actually are.
Yeah, Fox & The Hound depressed me. It was such a fun movie about friendship... until the end. I'd always be like "Wh... what? Mommy, why can't they still be friends?" |
But... I think people baby kids too much as it is in America :gonk: Oh man, I'm back sliding...
|
I was a really innocent kid. I loved the original Wizard of Oz and the Rogers and Hammerstein Cinderella and hated things that I love now like Ahh! Real Monsters!, Invader Zim and The Nightmare Before Christmas (well, actually, I was too afraid to watch that until middle school). I'm sure I would've been really afraid of Return to Oz, too, but I never watched it. I want to watch it now, though...
|
Actually, I was really contradictory... I flat-out refused to read Goosebumps or watch Are You Afraid Of The Dark because they were "scary", yet some of my favorite movies terrified me. I... I never thought of that before.
Hey, speaking of dark 1980's fantasy movies and things that are terrifying... http://28.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_l4...vqipo1_400.gif |
That may be the best thing I've seen all day, Cherry.
