How are you going to cut it?
I'm leaving mine alone. I want hippie hair. ☮ Wanna cut my bangs though. |
Go big or go home, Cherrs. But know what you want, and what you don't want. It's best to have stylist you trust, and perhaps a picture of the look you are interested in.
|
Unfortunately, I don't have a trusted stylist... The last time I got it cut, I went to great clips. I don't plan on doing that again... I found a beauty college nearby, and basically everyone and their brother suggests you go to a beauty college since the prices are an absolute bargain and the stylists are freshly taught, and the whole thing is watched by instructors, so they won't mess up too bad. And luckily, I do have pictures.
Right now my hair is just past shoulder-length, curly, VERY thick (sometimes resulting in a terrible poofy triangle), and just kind of hangs from a center part. So I'm going to get some soft (not scene kid-y), side-swept bangs, and some layers put on the rest of it to make it look a bit more styled and hopefully take some excess bulk out. I'm not taking any pictures in for the layering, I don't 100% know what I want there. I'm just going to tell the stylist basically what I just said with a bit more detail and trust them to handle it. But these are the pictures I'm taking in for the bangs. 1, 2. The article that the former is from said the bangs are manageable even if you have curly hair (which I do). They say if you brush them with a paddle brush while blow drying them with the dryer pointing down, they'll stay nice. I don't like putting a ton of time into my hair, but that doesn't sound like an unreasonable amount of effort to look nice. Oh lord, that was a lot of... words. Kita - Hippie hair! I did that before. I didn't have a single haircut (except for bangs) until I was 12-13. By the time I got it cut, my hair was well past my butt. |
Yes, I have bangs/fringe like that. It's not too hard to manage. A straightener works well too, although it's best to use that the day after you've washed it and so on, otherwise they tend to get a bit wavy, with my/our? hair type anyway (this is if it's not completely dry). Mine was always so thick growing up, but now, every few years, it thins itself out. It's odd. It's doing it right now, and the intensity of the shedding is starting to worry me :/
Giovanni Organics has a frizz reducing sort of serum (i can find the exact name if you like) that works really well for the curly hair type. And their products aren't too expensive. I've seen it in Target and the better grocery stores. just apply a small amount, and your hair looks stylishly out of control. Here's my hairstyle, for comparison: stylin' It's not a recent or great photo, but I don't have many of me, sorry. And I feel your pain, stylist wise. It can be hard and cumbersome to find a good one. The one I had before kind of always managed to make me look like a brunette Agent Scully, no matter what we were trying to do. |
Is that the real Biggaly-Wiggaly 8D
|
I have a straightener, but it tends to wreck my hair. >< I have to wash my hair every day anyway. I have a super greasy scalp, so I have to shower every morning, and I can't use much product, if any. And I really hate styling products that make your hair stiff/crunchy/sticky/looking absolutely anything except natural. Is the serum like that, or does it just add enough weight to your hair to keep things laying nicely?
Heyyyy, it's Biggles! Cute vest. Oh dear... That sounds odd. My bad haircut was partially my fault, but partially my stylist's. She kept asking me if I wanted it shorter, and I kept saying I did, but I wasn't taking into account that my hair was going to spring up and it would get even SHORTER, and it apparently never struck her to remind me of that. So I ended up with the absolute worst bob in the world when what I wanted was this cute asymmetrical edgy cut. Worsened by the fact that I had not yet realized that I have curly hair, so I was trying to do straight hair. This ended in it curling forward constantly. Like, to my cheek... looked terrible. |
The serum is really light weight stuff. And a little goes a long way. You really can't tell you have anything in your hair.
|
That sounds promising, then! Approximately how much does it cost?
|
Does Cherry have branded straighteners or some genric ones ?
|
Branded, I suppose. I'm pretty sure it's con-air, but I can't seem to find it to confirm that. Either way, it's not generic.
|
Some generic and branded straighteners can make your hair go greasy with HIM it's GHDs that make it go greasy, supposedly the best straighteners on the market but with a product or not it still not good for HIM.
|
I used to just use generic department store straighteners (pretty sure con air is one of the brands), but a few years ago I decided to invest in a more expensive one by Hanna. I have really, REALLY thick wavy hair, and even though I was cutting it very short I would still wear out/break those cheap straighteners by the end of the month. The actual professional one I bought has lasted me 2 years now, and gives great and consistent results.
Other than that, I don't take amazing care of my hair... I use Burt's Bees things to wash and condition, and I cut it myself whenever the fancy strikes me. Right now I've been sporting a death hawk; easy to maintain. |
I keep Jose Eber in a cupboard underneath the stairs, a la Harry Potter, and force him to do my hair once a week. And if he does a bad job, I beat him with his cowboy hat.
|
You don't have much left up their to maintain though, do you? Poor guy does the best he can with what little he has to work with. :(
|
:gonk: No one would have noticed this is a combover if you hadn't said anything!
*locks self in bathroom and cries* ... *comes out of bathroom, goes into kitchen, grabs bag of Fritos, goes back to bathroom, locks door... cries and eat Fritos* |
About six-seven dollars. Like I said, you only need to use a tiny amount, so it goes a looong way.

The Notorious B.I.G.G.L.E.S. - Oh, that's not too bad, then. Was afraid it was going to be 20-something... I have no real idea of how much hair care products cost.
Hammy - I'm not so sure how consistent the results I got for mine were... because I wouldn't be patient with it much. Sometimes I would be and I'd get tiny, thin sections and straighten them nicely on a good setting. Other times I'd crank it up to ten and just grab huge chunks of my hair and then be like "WHY AREN'T YOU STRAIGHT YET? D<" I use dandruff shampoo... right now it's Garnier dandruffblahblah Intense Clean. My favorite is this one Head and Shoulders one, Ocean Clean or something like that? The stuff in dandruff shampoos that kills the bacteria that cause dandruff help keep my head from getting stanky. But it has to be one of the EXTRA SUPER CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN, WE WILL SCALP YOU, YOU WILL BE SO CLEAN ones. Probably feeds into the cycle, but I don't want stinky head. Then I use Head and Shoulders Totally Twisted conditioner. Leaves a bit of a residue, but makes my hair lay nicer than any other. And I envy your ability to pull off whatever haircut you want. Meanie. HIM - That probably has to do with the heat setting. If you have it up really high, you'll dry out your hair, so your scalp will go WHOOSH OILY to try to protect it. Howdy - I'm currently working towards luring Nick Arrojo into a cage so that I may force him to be my hair slave. I just hope he doesn't do that thing where he just sticks his hands in your hair and shakes it around in your face like mad. Why do hairstylists do that, jeez, I thought you were trying to make it look nice, not mess it up. |
Yeah man, you really do get what you pay for when it comes to flat irons. But from what I've seen of your fb pics, you shouldn't be flat ironing it anyway, your curls are awesome. :T
I dunno if I'm really pulling it off, but it does get stares and compliments, so wwhatevver. You should just do what you feel like and dgaf what people think. Unless those people are potential employers... |
Ha, what FB pics, I deleted them in a fit of self-hatred. But anyway, yeah, I haven't straightened my hair in years. I tried to when I was 15-16, then I realized my hair really wanted to be curly, so I said "okay, fine, do that" and it was like "yay SPROIINNGGG*!!" So if I use it at all it'll just be to keep my bangs from doing that silly bubble thing. My problem isn't so much that I'm afraid of what other people will think, it's more that I'm afraid that I won't like the results. That nasty bob has really traumatized me.
* Sproing is the internationally recognized sound for curls. Also a pig's tail. Weeeell, I don't know what your hair looks like now, but the asymmetrical cut you've got in your FB pictures is awesome. I wish I could pull off/had the balls to try to pull off a cut like that. But so I'm sure you're rocking whatever you've got now. |
Hammy~ Hana? I want to investigate that brand. What makes Hana so osm? Mine are titanium..but some of my hair resists. Blatantly stays kinky. Even if it's a small section and I won't run it over more than twice. Someone told me about Chi ceramic irons. I have super thick hair...that's kinky. Or fro-ish. It's kinda fro..kinda trying to be straight. I call it a kinky pain in the rump. Not Afro due to me putting relaxers in it. I've stopped doing that for 5 months now in an attempt to go natural and use heat since it's less damaging.
*stops babbling* Cherry~ Ooo... sproingy! o3o I admire curly hair. I wanna see! Howdy~ Can I has a frito? P: |
Oog, maybe after I get my haircut. I hate taking pictures of myself.
|
@Snow: Oh right, "Hana". Same thing. :ninja:
Hana Professional This is the one that I got. It goes up to 450F, and has ceramic plates. I'm not sure how it would work for your hair. Mine is just really thick and wavy, not really curly or kinky. @Cherry: I pretty much have the same cut, but both sides are clipped and the back and top are getting long, so I have like a mohawk/rattail. |
*busts down bathroom door and arranges Howdy's hair to have more volume...steals fritos for payment*
Ham~ Oh! It's the same thing? okies. o': Something to consider... Cherry~ Aww... We are our own worst critics. I'm sure you will and already do look pretty unruly hair be damned. |
*planned on saying something, gets stuck staring at the majesty of Snow's signature for longer than reasonably necessary* :gonk:
