Haha, I feel like asians have a genetic like, hole. xD;
Give us your genes! And the kids will still have black hair and brown eyes!!! It's kind of sad really.

Ferra 06-01-2012 04:34 AM

@Hatake: That's generally true, but I also feel kind of bad for the "half" kids that want to identify as being Asian, since although their hair and eyes are dark, they still look "foreign" enough to set them apart. It varies on the child, but my half students really stand out as not being full Japanese. I have a feeling that would be the case for my hypothetical kids too since everyone in my genetic line is Scandinavian/Western European.

Hatake Ayumi 06-01-2012 04:43 AM

Hrm. I've rarely seen "half" kids, besides that one philipina girl (gah, dunno how to spell that word), so I wouldn't know. ; - ;
Poor kids! :hug: I would totally be friend with them. But I'm "half" in a cultural way, so I don't think they'd like me. xD;;

Eh, I dunno Hatake. There were a brother and sister at my high school who were half Japanese/ half Russian Jewish....And they had darker hair, but it was curly and more of a medium brown with fair eyes.

Hatake Ayumi 06-01-2012 05:06 AM

... /jealous of the fair eyes/ xD
I've never seen that before! I must meet these awesome people!

Woodlandnymph 06-01-2012 05:29 AM

I don't even recall their names now that I think of it. I'd have to look in my yearbook XD

Ferra 06-01-2012 05:31 AM

On the other hand, I've met a half-German, half-Japanese guy who looked much more Asian than some other mixed race people I've met. He said his parents named him "Ken" so he could have an international name, but ironically "Ken" is pretty unusual in Germany so it didn't do him much good.

And looking at Wikipedia, it looks like I can still call myself "blonde" since my hair is the same color as the example they show for "medium blonde". \o/

Woodlandnymph 06-01-2012 05:34 AM

I wonder who that person is...and if they know their forehead is being used by Wikipedia..... and I like how expressive their eyebrows are. XD

Cherry Who? 06-01-2012 05:58 AM

That looks a lot like my hair color.

My mom's eyes are a medium-dark bluey green. They change a lot. Mine are boring hazel. They don't quite match, though! One is pretty much just straight brown, the other has more of a green tint to it. So the straight brown one looks a little darker, but only when you're looking really close.

Ferra 06-01-2012 06:02 AM

That's interesting, Cherry! My eyes are blue, but not totally blue. It can range from grayish to greenish depending on the light, but I usually just say blue since that's the main color IMO. Sometimes my elementary school students ask me "why do you have blue eyes?" and I struggle to come up with an answer. I usually just say "because my mom has blue eyes".

Cherry Who? 06-01-2012 06:09 AM

"Because I look at the sky a lot"
"Because I painted them blue"
"Because I'm really sad all the time"
"Because my father was a violet"
"Because blue is my favorite color"

Hatake Ayumi 06-01-2012 06:12 AM

Dude. If I was a kid. And got answer number one to that question. I would be SO IN AWE and like... in love with that answer.

Woodlandnymph 06-01-2012 06:20 AM

Hehe. I like that answer Cherry :D <3

And my eyes change too. Depending on what I am wearing or whatever. Sometimes they look more brown, other times more green.

Those are great! But unfortunately that would cause all of them to believe me. Sarcasm isn't really a thing in Japanese. So even when I say obviously false things, my students will look at me confused because they aren't used to that kind of joke. But if I say "American joke!" they immediately will start laughing. XD

A recent example:

Student: 先生!日本国籍ですか?(Teacher, are you a Japanese citizen?)
Me: Yes, I am! (Thickly sarcastic tone and exaggerated expression.)
Student: 本当?!(Really?!)
Me: Yes. (Super fake smile and nod.)
Student: えぇ、すごい!(Wow, cool.)
Me: American joke!
Student: Oh... ha ha!

Woodlandnymph 06-01-2012 06:50 AM

That's even cuter though Ferra! XD

Cherry Who? 06-01-2012 06:51 AM

Right, I was kidding, I wouldn't think you should say that.

Did anyone do anything exciting today? I... got a new shampoo. and found a new conditioner, but I couldn't get it yet because I had a coupon for it at home and didn't have it with me. So I'll take it with me next time. And... I watched spongebob and then took a nap. Yep, exciting life here.

EDIT: Ack! It's boyfriend and I's anniversary! It's only been for a few hours, but... holy shit, I completely forgot.

Ferra 06-01-2012 07:44 AM

Yeah, but now I want to give joke answers. Curses!

Hmm, well I worked today and it was fun. We did and activity where I had students guess the English names for Mario characters to practice the grammar point "We call it _____". Can you guess what "Kinopio" is in English?

Chickie Nuggs 06-01-2012 02:36 PM

When I read Kinopio, I thought of Pinocchio.

Hatake Ayumi 06-01-2012 02:59 PM

Ferra: Is it a Koopa? xD
Is it a food item?

I did too xD

I googled it because I am impatient :ninja:

Re: Doing interesting things

Yesterday I helped put collars on all the cats in the shelter and walked away without any severe bleeding 8D

Not everyone was as lucky as me though :ninja:

And today I have a doctor appointment, so that's interesting I guess. Yearly exam and cancer screening, woo.

Next week the cats go in for rabies shots and routine check-ups. Then I have a training session one evening and hubby is supposed to get us an appointment with the bank some time.

These things are interesting because I get to leave the house 8D

Cherry Who? 06-01-2012 05:30 PM

Ferra - My guess is Toad.

I did google out of curiousity, but toad was my guess before I googled. No cheating here!

Keyori - Kittiiiiiiieeees.

Keyori 06-01-2012 05:36 PM

Oh right, I need to take pictures today when I go to the humane society. 20 new kittens on the adoption floor today! We'll see if I can get any that aren't blurry.

HIM_ROCK 06-01-2012 05:46 PM

Itty bitty kitties ?

Cherry Who? 06-01-2012 06:00 PM

You have the best volunteer position, oh my god.

If I were to volunteer with a shelter (which I totally want to), I'd probably have to volunteer with dogs. I like dogs a whole lot, but I don't want one, so I'd be able to say buy to them when they go to new owners and I could go home at the end of the day. With kitties... I love them entirely too much and would want to bring every single one home and I'd bawl when they got adopted. >>

HIM_ROCK 06-01-2012 06:02 PM

Are there any big boy kitties ?

HIM was conned with the boy kitty HIM got
