Does your milk do this?

A few nights back I was in the kitchen making a cup of coffee in the dark.

It was like.. 5am and I couldn't sleep and I was trying to be quiet so instead of turning on the kitchen light I left it dark.. set out the creamer, sugar and milk in a little line so I wouldn't knock anything over...

out of habit I popped the top off of the milk jug and set it back on top without pushing it into place so I wouldn't have to deal with it when my coffee came out of the microwave

anyway.. i was standing there watching my coffee go around in circles when I heard a pop and saw something fly past my face...

when I looked down the cap wasn't on the milk, it was laying on the counter with little droplets of milk around it... so i put the cap back on top of the jug still not pushing it completely onto the jug and stood there peering at it in the dark

after a few seconds passed by I was rewarded by another pop and a flying milk cap!

officially FREAKED out I poked the jug with my index finger a few times and picked up the jug, holding it at arms length peering down inside of it mumbling to myself about 'devil's' and 'possession' as I tried to make sure nothing alive or otherwise sinister was residing in the jug.

I still have no idea why it was doing that, I haven't been able to get a repeat performance but seriously, since when to milk caps jump off of the milk jug??

has this ever happened to you? would it freak you out? how would you react? would you still use the possessed devil's milk?

I am proud to say that I made my coffee, complete with milk *nods* I totally showed that jug who was boss!

Tessen 05-27-2008 06:21 AM

Holy crap! D:

I have had it plop off slightly but never POPED off like that. xD

Kalliste 05-27-2008 06:22 AM

*screams* Devil's Milk!! lol, I've never had scary milk like that. It's really weird... have you had any issues since?

set out the creamer
What is a Creamer? I read about them but I have no idea what the hell a creamer is :D

comotized 05-27-2008 06:24 AM

lol it didn't plop, it damn near exploded and took my eye out!

I'm still half-afraid of the milk jug lmao

but i have to use it because coffee without it.. just isn't the same *sniffles*

General Lee Outrageous 05-27-2008 07:01 AM

The best I can figure is that there was rapidly increasing pressure in the jug, caused by gas or the jug's shrinkage.

Mekoness 05-27-2008 07:10 AM

That is really strange lol. We get cartons personally so I can't try it right now... *very curious*

Was it an unusually hot day maybe? But to get that powerful of a reaction is something else. XD

comotized 05-27-2008 07:11 AM

but how many times in a row can said pressure increase at a rapid rate, wouldn't the pressure go down after being let loose multiple times?

I stood in the kitchen and kept repeating this process for a good 10 or so times, i would think the pressure would peter out after that point..

the same theory could be said for gas, as for shrinkage I couldn't say, if it shrunk i didn't notice anything :P

@Mekoness: no it was actually cold that morning and rainy at that. As far as I can tell it was just a random thing which makes it doubly strange to boot!

KeiKei Shunu 05-27-2008 07:24 AM

WTF? :0

Weird pressure in your house. XD

I've never had that happen. :\ strange as hell, though.

Was the coffee good?

comotized 05-27-2008 07:37 AM

my coffee is always good but nothing compares to the first cup out of a fresh pot!

and this house is weird.. not the house house but the people in it, we're all tardos from hell but at least we don't lack for entertainment, hell, half the time I have to wear earplugs just to think!

KeiKei Shunu 05-27-2008 07:59 AM

XD

Both of my sisters were baristas. :3 So I get really yummy coffee the few times I drink it. (I'm more of a tea fan)
One of my sisters (the younger of the two. They're both older than me though) learned how to make really extravagant latte art. :0

She did a bird once. It was amazing.

and I LOVE herbal tea, spearmint and peppermint are my favorite ones.. mmm soo yummy and relaxing

KeiKei Shunu 05-27-2008 08:17 AM

XDDD
I should! (if she had a reference pic, I bet she could do it!)

I like peppermint and lavender for my herbal teas. And spearmint.

Otherwise, I like Jasmine Green Tea and Genmaicha green tea. ;3

I've had the cap jump off my milk plenty of times. But it is a milk cap, so it is destiny that it cap my milk so I always put it back in its place, no matter how it resists. You can't screw with destiny milk cap. It's in your design, in your milk cap DNA!

Yeah 05-27-2008 11:28 AM

I've never even heard of that happening before. Are you sure the milk isn't bad? That would freak me out quite a bit.

Yreka 05-27-2008 11:34 AM

Ummmm....You shouldn't have used that milk.

The reason the cap flew off is because bacteria had started to produce gas in that milk I think. It could be potentially poisonous. Had it just popped off once, I don't think it would be, but for it to happen consistantly...Doubt it would be the cap for it wouldn't get enough energy to fly too far. Jug doesn't provide any energy for this.
Yeah, there's a good chance it had gone bad.

For-Chan Cookie 05-27-2008 11:36 AM

Sometimes the caps are just defective. That's why they've popped off mine, either that or I didn't get it in the grooves right.

amyrex2 05-27-2008 03:48 PM

Your a brave woman to have drank some of that. I don't believe in devil and possession, but I do believe in food poisoning. I would have flushed it and cried till I got new milk or creamer.

Moogle 05-27-2008 03:59 PM

I love your chinchilla, but my milk has done that once I think. It's probably some gas in it or something. Either that, or there really are demons inside our milk.

zigbigadorlube 05-27-2008 04:19 PM

I think it may have happened to me a few times in the past but probably not as forceful as you're saying... I think it has to do with the difference in the temperatures between the fridge and the inside of your house...

mystic kiwi 05-27-2008 04:26 PM

I had that happen before. I've left it on the stove and it got too hot though. I also had it happen when the milk went bad. I hate milk now though so I haven't had to deal with a milk jug in years.

Moogle 05-27-2008 04:28 PM

But teh milks help you gets teh strong bones ;3

Naiyo 05-27-2008 04:30 PM

that is insance I have no idea what could cause it but that is so cool and scarry! xD

mystic kiwi 05-27-2008 04:34 PM

@Randal: It also tastes like poo though. XP i like soy milk much better. I'm border line vegan so I do without a lot of true dairy products.

Moogle 05-27-2008 04:37 PM

@Kiwi: No she didn't spell ma name wrong D< and how do you know what poo taste like? 0__0
