Search Function
So I'm wondering how the in forum search function works (one one that shows up on the right hand side of each forum).
Are the results of a search based on the tags for a post? The reason I ask is that last night I started a thread in Media on 'Firefly'. Initially I did a search to see if this had been done previously and according to the search it hadn't. This morning my thread has been merged with a 'Firefly/Serenity' thread. Now, when I do a search there it is and when looking at the tags they are the tag's I created for my thread. So, basically, is the basic search based on tags? I know there's a advanced search but I'm yet to use it. I usually just use the basic search before creating a thread. |
I'm pretty sure there wasn't a tagging system in the old software, so any threads created before the switch will not have tags. So when your repeat was merged, the tags you used on it were transfered over to the old thread.
From my test, the search isn't based on tags since a "firefly" search led me to a ton of threads, pretty much all of which weren't directly about the show, and most of which didn't even have any tags. A good test for finding out if you are making a repeat is to check the Forum Catalogs that are located at the top of every relevant forum. That is an ongoing list with links of every thread topic. |
There's a catalog? lol... I haven't seen them, I'll go and search it.
That's true... I did a search and found 'favourite movies' and the like but nothing specific until it was there this morning *shrug* I'll check the forum catalog's :) |
Yup, the catalog is a sticked thread right at the top of each interest forum. The Media one was actually re-done today!

I just found it :)
So that's why my Arrested Development one was added :) Thanks for letting me know, that's really going to help. |
Glad I could help clarify things for you!
