Lets talk colors!
First off, my apologies if this has been done before. I looked, but I may have overlooked something...and if I did, I apologize. :sweat:
Anyway, I just got back from an avatar shopping spree...and I feel like discussing favorite colors. And I don't mean just asking "what is your favorite color?" and leaving it at that - that's just useless in GD. There's no discussion there. D< What I want to know is, are there any colors that you like for more than just how they look? What is/are your favorite color/s, and WHY? See...the vast majority of my avatar's wardrobe is some shade of pink or black. Next to everything I buy for her anymore is hot pink. It's become my favorite color. I wear it every day in real life, too - most of my earrings are hot pink, my favorite shirt is black and hot pink, and my favorite jacket is black with white and hot pink. Reason for this is because I have a habit of associating colors with things, places, concepts, or people. That last one is mostly it for me - shades of bright pink remind me of one of the most influential people in my life, as well as the greatest moments of my life. I actually hated all shades of pink up until just a couple months ago, too. I associated the color with something completely different...and not something pleasant. For similar reasons, I also like earth tones - they remind me of some of the particularly enjoyable times of my life as well. Times before my accident, and other happy memories. I can't stand large amounts of white for long periods of time - it reminds me of summer in my town, which is...not particularly a fun time, I have to say. I live in a huge tourist trap, and I sunburn VERY easily...so I don't like thinking about summer here. I'll occasionally dress my avatar in white, but I generally stay away from the "summery" looks (my current one is as "summery" as I get). This is also why I used to hate all shades of pink. They reminded me of the tourists we ALWAYS get - "dumb blondes" who are an absolute credit to their stereotype. They make me want to punch something. For this reason, I still say it takes something special to pull off a combination of pink and white. So anyway...that's enough of my color ramblings. my favorite colors are black and white---i dont believe they remind me of anything in perticular, but black is soothing to me---and white makes a contrast---kinda like night and day. I like the purplish blue color of the horizon before the sun rises. Its a gorgeous color. And it makes me think of being somewhere far away *perferably with someone i want to be close with, but i cannot* I like deep shades of red and green sometimes, im partial to Christmas colors all year round, because i love that time of year. Pinks arent such bad colors to me, but they dont remind me of anything. I like the open blue color of the sky when there's no clouds, cause i can daydream when i look into the sky. I like the greys of clouds when they hover close to the ground before it storms, and the off-white color left over sometimes in the summer time after they clear. i have no real attraction to yellow or orange. Yellow maybe, but only to color eyes with when im drawing, or making avatars--cause it looks demonic.... *edit* oh, looking at my avatar, i had no real attachment to those colors...i just chose them just cause lol X3 |
I like white because it's a very clean color. I associate it with cleanliness and crispness.
Black is in most of my avatars. Not just because it's in most items or is easy to use, but because it gives avatars more of an "edge" to them, I guess. Like, take my current avatar for example. If I didn't have black in it, and it was just light orange, white, and light pink, it'd look very fluffy and light. Which may be fine for some people, but that's just not me. So with black in there, it's got that fluffiness to it, but also with a bit of an edge to it. It's not totally a ball of fluff. It's badass fluff. ;D And I use pink a lot because... well, I just like it. *shrug* It's a fun, happy color. :D |
I like all colors. I used to hate or at the very least dislike most colors: for a time, I hated pinks, greens, oranges, browns, greys... all kinds of colors.
Nowadays, I've matured past my simple roots of "I HATE THE COLOR ________ BECAUSE IT'S STUPID AND GIRLY!" and i realized that colors are just colors... we're the ones that give meaning to them. Pink is for girls and blue is for boys simply because we've accepted it, and it's a damn shame to shun something as simple as a COLOR. It's like hating the sky or the clouds or something. I used to hate them, but now I love them. Violently bright colors are the best. I wouldn't say I attach a special meaning towards any particular color, but I'd pick yellow for sunflowers. They have a lot of symbolism to me. |
I love teal, because it reminds me of the ocean. I've only seen the ocean once and I really kind of miss it. And purple, because it makes me feel amazingly powerfull.

I love all sorts of different colors.
I like dodger blue a lot. To me, it's a very pure blue with some green in it, but not enough to be considered aqua. I also like black in moderation. It adds a lot of effect and makes bright colors stand out. Bright pink is the only shade of pink I really like. I really doesn't scream girly to me, and when put with other colors can be quite nice. Another color I like is the red between normal red and maroon. Red in itself is a very bold color, but when darkened I find it to take on a more mature personality. While we're on the topic of colors, I absolutely adore some color combonations. Aqua/Brown is my favorite, followed by black/blue, red/black, pink/black, and pink/brown. I'm a very strange person. =P |

My favorite color is turquoise;
that's my birthstone and I've always loved it : D I also love violet, lime green, and orange : D But for some reason, most of my avvies are pink, gold, white, and black; sometimes with a touch of blue : D I just think it looks nice that way; matchy and a little girly, just like me : D But IRL, my fave color combo is purple and orange [and sometimes a touch of pink XD] It's bright and a little bit clashy, and just... different 8D And yeah, I used to hate yellow D: But now I just like all colors ♥ |
My favorites colours are varies assortments of greens, pinks, oranges and tan. Not all together of course, but when matched together in varies shades of the same colour, those sets tickle me. :love:
I associate greens with new beginnings, I guess. Things always look so fresh and vibrant. However, I don't really dress is the bright new green colour. I like wearing dark greens, because they're warm and look pretty against the colour of my skin. :heart: Pink has always been my favorite colour, the bright in your face pink is love. Yet, I do have an attraction to the deep seductive pinks. Lights pinks are just cute. =3 I.. can't think of any colours that I loathe. If paired with the right counterpart, any colour can become amazing ;) |
I like most colors. So bright and gorgeous.I heard if you live in a room or house with a lot of red you feel angry, and if it's blue you feel calm, etc, etc. My favorite color would have to be green. There are a lot of gorgeous shades.

My favourite colors are green, red, black, purple and blue. XD i know that are a lot of colors, but they are all so pretty.
I like green because I associate that color with nature. It reminds me of qalking around in a flourishing forest, green is a soothing color. I like red mostly to wear, the color suits me very well and you can match it perfectly with black and white. Red is a very warm color, the color of love! <3 Black is also one of my favourite colors to wear, since you can match it with every other color. Also black is not too outstanding because I do not like to be too outstanding. XD Also black can be cheerfull too when you match it with bright colors, it is good to wear for every mood I am in. Black is the color I gotta have in my wardrobe. XD Purple because i simply think it is a pretty color. Purple is the color of relaxation, that is why my whole bedroom is in purple too XD. And my living room is red, black and white, and my hallway is blue. And my toilet is green.So in my house I have all the colors that I like. XD Oh yeah and blue, why do I like blue? I think because it is a fresh color, the color of the ocean, of heaven. and boys. =P I totally do not like the oldpink color, you know that vague pink color, it gives me headaches. I sometimes dislike the color orange too, orange is the color of my country Holland, and I think it is a very bright and cheerfull color, but when I have a headache (ive got migraine) then I cannot stand that color for some reason. It hurts my eyes. XD There aren't any colors I dislike by association. That's also the thing you can do with colors, look at them positively or in the negative way. For example you can associate yellow with pee lol (I read a book once where this boy disliked yellow because he associated it with that) but you can also see yellow as the color of the warm sun. =D I love colors, and to play around with them! It is a shame though, that on here I haven't found any clothing items that I really like in the color red. I do have found 2 outfits I am saving up for and they're in the color orange lol well that is because I have that fox hat and I love it so I wanted something to match with it. And the other outfit is in blue. |
I've heard that from people before, that they associate colors with things. To some extent I guess I do too.
Like blue makes me think of the sky or water, or my best friend who loves blue. I find it calm and relaxing. It reminds me of clear blue skies, cool summer days, and vacation. My favorite color is purple. I'm not even sure why. Maybe because I've always liked the regal. To me it's deep and colorful, and full of mystery. But it's funny because even though it's my favorite color, I own virtually nothing in the shade of purple! Red is also one of my favorites for the same reason as purple. It's kind of gory though, because at just the right shade it reminds me of blood and power. I usually only get into the color when I'm feeling irritable and a bit lethal. The only other colors I like are earth tones because they make me feel like I am embracing nature and black simply because it goes with everything and makes you look slim and foreboding. |
I like green, it's so fresh, and alive and all :]
And also because it's the colour of plants and grass, it makes me happy because flowers, trees and grass are so pretty. Heh.. ^^; And blue.. because the sky is so endless and again... so HAPPY. I suppose those colours make me "happy" because they remind me of a sunny, blue sky day with lush green grass. (But I like green and blue separately too~) ...I like aqua-ry colours too. :3 (The ocean O uO ) And purple, and yellow, and white, and red.. yea.. mostly anything x3 It really depends what mood I'm in though, or if everything around it matches. I don't really wear green and blue often, they don't match my skin complexion. (I really don't like wearing colours that clash with my skin colour) or colours that make me look darker. :/ My favourite colour to wear is grey. <3 |
My favorite colors are probably like blue, aquamarine, frost, yellow, light purple, pink, (No, I'm not girly, I just like the feeling of it, very light and nice.)and most likely forest green. I like blue because it's a very cool color, I don't actually know why... Aquamarine, since it's just stuck to me-most of my friends actually call me that and it sounds like my name. Frost, it's snowy! Who doesn't love the colors of winter? Yellow, light purple, and pink since they're very light and soothing... Forest Green...I don't really, probably because my sister likes it. XD I don't really hate any colors, only yellow/brown, (not gold) because it's just really...it looks like a mud pile. That's all I can say. And yeah, that's it... |
My favourite colours are hot pink, and deep purple, next to black. I don't know why, but I've always really liked those colour combos.
Electric green and hot pink together are also nice. I like these because they reflect the crazy, unpredictable and out-there side to me. Only sometimes, do I associate colours with things. Like, I associate blue with the ocean, white with purity etc.. I can't stand orange. I think it's because I've always hated orange sweets. For some reason they burn my mouth. And I hate beige. But that's only because it's the most boring colour on the planet. :XD Nothing else to say really. :) |

My favorite color is pink,And yes,its associated to my uncle when he lost a bet when i was 7,He had to dye his hair pink <333,I really Dislike the color Brownnnnnn,or any shades of it at that ,for no particular reasons really. =S

I myself have a great love for silver and earth tones. Actually, the only colors that I don't like are vomit greens and peeps yellow. Mainly this is because of the fact that as an artist I can see applications of colors that are perhaps less obvious.
What's more, I adore strange combinations, and weird colorations for various things. It can prove to be an interesting thing to see. |
My favorite colors, hm..that's a easy one. Gray.
I like one the most, because..I don't know, but I just like the tone of the color. Kind of! I use dark purple with light pink and white. It's strange, but I like it. Oh yeah, I use gray also. C: I don't hate much...Hm...not really any, except yellow when people abuse it to hurt other people's eyes. |

My first favorite color is green. ^_^ Can't you tell? I love green because it makes me think of nature. So many shades of green. But mostly, it makes me think of the rolling hills of grass we see on the drive to my aunt's house. I will stare out at those fields, and wonder what I would look like from the road. Would I be a speck in that green? Or not be seen at all? Then it moves on to running through the field, just happy and free. So, the color green makes me think of freedom, happiness, and the earth. Black is the next. It's not really a color. Actually, it's the absence of color. But, anyhow. Black makes me think of everything dark and mysterious. Contemplation, permanence, intended isolation. It's like a story waiting to unfold. Unlike white, there is a presence in black. One of my favorite modern artists, Megan Greene (look her up, seriously) uses only black paper because of that reason. White makes you want to fill up the space, but black just makes you want to add to it. You can't have any white showing on your canvas if you're painting. But with black, that's not the case. I'm sure you get my point here, right? My love of black is more from an art perspective than anything else. White isn't to be looked down on, though. White can turn into anything, and never remains white. White is color , so it's natural that it never stays pristine forever. From an art perspective, again, white is what you use to start in most cases, and it's also used to create a new beginning when you want to completely start over from another ending (painting over an old work with gesso). White clothes turn yellow with age or attract stains of all kinds. White paper is scrawled over with ink. White roses fade brown, white skin tans. We can also go with the image of purity in white, and give that a metaphorical meaning when looking at aging. We start out pure, and slowly taint as we get older. And... that's why I love white. xD Grey (not gray :P ) is the next favorite. It's that in-between black and white. It's not either. Just a blur between the borders where you are not shrouded in darkness or blinded by light. Grey makes me think of doves, and journeys. Grey is the mediator, the thoughtful onlooker. Grey can be gentle, and meek, but can also be daunting. It can hold some mystery, but you can't hide in grey forever (think like fog, you can still see if you're right on top of what you want to see). Grey makes me think of statues, maybe even cemeteries. Silver's closely related to grey, but I think silver is just grey with a shine. And here comes purple. Purple makes me think of a few things, such as velvet, night, sometimes music. But it's not as deep a like as the others. I just like it. Ha, I love how the last three were paragraphs and this one's just, durr, I like the color. :P And the final color that almost everyone likes is blue. Blue is serene, and is rarely offensive. Blue makes me think of the ocean, a beach. An empty beach where only I walk. Blue is like a robin's egg, and the color of a baby's eyes. So, blue can also mean new life and beginnings, like white. My prom dress was a really pretty ultra blue. It's such a typical color, but it's so beautiful. How can you not help but at least admire something blue? And there you have my color explanations. Hope that wasn't too laborious to get through. |
My three favorite colors are red, blue, and purple. I also like green, black, golden yellow, gold and silver.

I like an amber yellow - it's actually one of my favorite ones, mainly because I remember in the first Jurassic Park movie there was that mosquito trapped inside that amber rock. That's when I fell in love with that color...just because i loved the movie.
When I take pictures with my digital camera I like the absence of color. I usually take them in black and white or in Sepia hues. I think it makes them look so much better than if they were in color. |

my fave. color is black because i think that black is a really nice color. It reminds me how nice dark colors are. It also goes good with anything you wear! I usually wear black. Sometimes people ask me if I'm goth just because I like black. But I'm not goth. I just think that black soothens me :) that's why black is my fave. color!!!!! |
