Jeane smiled at him once she was finally ready to go. "Okay, now we can go. So I can go make sure those things I found are actually old enough to be Viking-age."
So she could then bribe her boss with them. Sort of. Mostly she just liked returning things to their proper owners. |
Cal raised an eyebrow. Well, that could be interesting.
"What, to use them as bribes?" he asked. Because he knew about the curator and her former 'occupation.' |
"I'm sure that'll be a perk, yes," Jeane said, locking the dor after them as they left. "But mostly I want to see if they were hers. I found a few things of Khalid's at the last place I worked, so."
|
"How can you tell?" Cal asked. He had no idea how to figure out where something was from or how old it was just by looking at it.
|
"It's a lot of technical stuff. It would actually be easier to show you." She looked at him sheepishly. "If you wanted, I mean. It wouldn't be much practical use to you, but I can always go show you the old weapons we have stored in the back..."
|
Cal grinned.
"Now you're speaking my language," he said. He would always jump at the chance to see new weapons, even if he had no interest in using them. It was always a good idea to know your way around them, regardless. |
Jeane smiled. "I thought you might like that." She started walking towards the museum, getting a visitor's pass for him before leading him to the back. She wasn't going to let him wander around on his own, but she could show him around.
|
Cal walked with her and followed her inside. He had no desire to wander around on his own in the museum; nothing would really interest him that much, and he would get bored very quickly. So he stuck with Jeane.
|
Jeane went straight to her station, checking briefly to make sure her things were still there before she led him to the back weapons room.
"Have fun. Everything's labeled, and try not to touch anything." Jeane grinned at him briefly and hesitated a moment before she kissed his cheek. |
"Right, not touching," Cal replied, waving a hand. When she kissed his cheek, though, he caught her hand and pulled her back, giving her a real, albeit quick, kiss in return. Then he let her go. "Have fun looking at all the old things."
|
Jeane turned pink but nodded. "I'll be back in a little bit." She left him there to go authenticate old things and give a few things back to the director. The director was very glad to see them. Glad enough to give Jeane a raise and a free pass to borrow basically anything, granted she didn't damage anything.
So Jeane skipped back to go find Cal about four hours later, grinning from ear to ear. |
Cal had long since gotten bored looking at the weapons and had started looking around at other things. The weapons may have been the original things he wanted to see, but they could only hold his attention for so long. Besides, he couldn't even touch them, what fun was that? He grinned a bit when Jeane came back.
"You look pleased," he commented. |
"Boss-lady's pleased with me. Apparently I just got unofficially promoted to something like department chair? Something like that." Jeane shrugged. "And she said I could take the rest of the day off. I'm sure you're bored half to death by now, so would you like to go do something else?"
|
"Wish my boss would do that," Cal muttered. He looked at her. "What did you bribe her with?" And he definitely wanted to get out of the museum now; he'd about had his fill of educational shit to last a while.
|
"An old Norse ring, a battle axe, and a few pieces of armor." Jeane shrugged, clearly excited. She was bouncing a little as she made her way over to him.
Then she grinned and pounced on him. After making sure there wasn't anything behind him to fall on but the floor. |
Cal's eyes widened a fraction when Jeane jumped on him, but he caught her easily enough. He even managed to make it so that she didn't hit the floor with him.
"You're in a good mood now," he commented. |
Jeane grinned. "Like I said, I like giving things back to their proper owners. It makes them happy, which makes them happy with me, which makes me happy." She didn't think it was very complicated, but then she was also vastly different from Cal.
"So what shall we do for the rest of the day?" |
"Well, where do you want to go?" Cal asked. He almost suggested they go and annoy Robin for a while, but he thought better of it just in time. He didn't want to risk interrupting anything.
|
Jeane shrugged. "I kinda feel like sushi. And ice cream. Oh, I could make mochi later!"
She paused and looked over at him. "Do you even eat sushi?" |
Cal blinked.
"Wait, raw fish?" he asked. He blinked again. "You actually eat that?" He, who had seen and done things that would (and had) scare the living daylights out of people, couldn't imagine himself trying to choke down raw fish. He ignored the uncomfortable little voice in the back of his mind that he'd had a different kind of raw meat, before. |
Jeane snickered at him and leaned down, kissing the tip of his nose.
"Yup. But we won't today. I'll still make mochi later, but we'll find something else for lunch." Sitting back so most of her weight was on his thighs, she thought for a few moments. What could she introduce him to now... |
Cal should have known that it wouldn't last. In exchange for the day off, it seemed like he was suddenly getting all of the extra shifts at the bar dumped on him. He grumbled to himself as he wiped down the bar, and glared (albeit half-heartedly) at Robin as the puck walked in. There was really only one reason Robin would be walking into the bar, lately, and it wasn't for alcohol.
|
Robin grinned at the other two before he went to sit in front of Ishiah, starting to bug the peri to leave work early.
Jeane waved briefly at Robin before going back to moving new bottles where they needed to go. She paused when someone walked in and over to the bar, got a whiff of Cal, made a face, and sidled closer to Ish's end of the bar. |
Cal just scowled at the newcomer, as he usually did with everyone who gave him that kind of reaction, and went back to what he was doing. It happened often enough that he'd just stopped caring, mostly.
"For the love of god, puck, just kidnap him and leave already," he finally snapped when Robin's wheedlings charged headlong into the graphic and blatant. "I don't want to have to listen anymore." |
"You don't have to listen. You didn't inherit that part of the Auphe," Robin snarked right back.
Jeane latched onto that comment, her eyes narrowing just a little. "What do you mean by that, Robin?" Robin blinked, realized she hadn't actually known what Cal was, and paused before he grabbed Ishiah and physically hauled him out of the bar. |
