You've been watching your phone all day, Khalid accused. It was mostly teasing. I'll be fine. Jeane's in the next room, anyways.
But she's not us. And I hope you're not doing with her what you do with us. Robin sent that, paused, and then sent another text. Although if you do I might have to request video of it.
She's not, and I'm not, and don't even think about it, Khalid promptly replied after the second text. Go bother Ish if you're that bored. She didn't mind that they would have fun without her for the moment. At least, for now.
Nah. He's half passed out. Apparently he's having problems with Cal again. Robin just rolled his eyes. Honestly, Cal was just being a baby.
His own attitude, on the other hand, was an entirely different story. |
Problems? Khalid repeated. Sounded vaguely like Cal was having a bit of a tantrum, since Jeane wasn't there.
Cal's just being a baby cause Jeane isn't around. Robin rolled his eyes.
He can deal with it for a few more days, Khalid retorted. But she did make a mental note to have Jeane text Cal later on. Maybe that would help for a while.
He's just being a wuss. Robin snorted. I might go in tomorrow to keep Ish company.
And to keep yourself distracted, Khalid replied. She knew what he was thinking, really. I'll be back at the end of the week. And Cal will stop sulking then, too.
He better. We're making him clean up any mess he makes. Robin didn't bother denying her earlier statement, either.
Whatever he shot probably deserved it, Khalid replied dismissively. Anyways, go on and snuggle in with Ish. After a moment, she unwrapped the new bottle and took a picture of it. She sent the picture along, with a text that said, And see if you can't nab a feather from him that will match this.
Robin grinned broadly at the picture of the bottle. Not a problem. I'll have a small selection for you when you get back. And then he went to go snuggle in with Ish and maybe see if he could wake the peri up enough.
Khalid snorted, but set the phone aside. That would keep them busy for a while, she was sure. With a small sigh, she tried to settle in for the night, only to have the baby start kicking her again. Groaning softly, she got up and quietly started walking around her apartments, hoping it would put the baby to sleep again. She didn't want to be kept awake all night. She padded quietly past Jeane in her pillow nest, mentally noting the state of the low-burning brazier in the room. It would keep the apartments warm enough until things warmed up again in the morning.
Jeane only partially woke up when Khalid started walking around. She blinked and shifted, settling down and going back to sleep.
That next morning she woke up before Khalid did, but she was careful not to wake her friend. She just snacked on some dates while she waited. |
Khalid didn't sleep too much later than Jeane did, though she did take her time making her way into the next room.
"Did you sleep alright?" she asked her friend. |
"Yup." Jeane yawned briefly but stayed relaxed where she was. "How about you? I think I heard you get up kinda late last night..."
"Did I wake you?" Khalid asked. "I apologize if I did. I was trying to get the baby to settle down." Going over, she picked up one of the dates and started to nibble on it. "Walking seems to help, sometimes." Having Robin and Ishiah around would have been better, since they were more than willing to massage her stomach for as long as it took to calm the baby, but she would take what she could get when they weren't around.
"Don't worry about waking me. I went right back to sleep." Jeane grinned briefly. "If you want we can take it easy today." She didn't know what else Khalid had planned, but they still had some time, and the more Khalid relaxed the better.
"I'll be okay," Khalid replied, waving a hand. "Don't worry about me." She didn't want to admit that taking it easy sounded appealing, and she wanted Jeane to enjoy the rest of the vacation. "Before I forget, text Cal and tell him you miss him. Apparently he's getting a little trigger-happy."
Jeane snickered and pulled her phone over, trying to figure out what time it was back home so she'd know she wasn't waking up Cal. Then she texted him.
Missed you last night. "So what shall we do today, Brain?" |
Cal twitched a bit when his cell phone buzzed, but relaxed when he saw who was texting him. He just had no idea how to reply without sounding sappy and cheesy.
Missed you too, he sent back. Khalid snorted. "The same thing we do every day, Pinky," she replied, using the same reference. She didn't finish the entire quote though. The first part was enough. |
Jeane just burst into a fit of giggles, unable to help herself. She had to ignore her phone for a minute while she got herself under control.
"Well, how about we explore the rest of the city besides what we saw last night? Just kinda meander around." Khalid has a pillow nest. It's awesome. I stole it. |
"Sure," Khalid replied. She didn't mind that, and it would give Jeane a chance to explore as she liked.
Pillow nest? Cal asked. That just sounded weird. |
Uh huh. Bunch of pillows on the ground. It's actually really comfy. I'll set one up once I get home.
Jeane grinned but made no immediate move to get up, instead stretching briefly before getting comfortable. Exploring could wait until after breakfast. |
There was a pause, as if Cal was trying to picture such a thing.
Why? he finally asked. Hell, a bed was just fine for him. A couch, even. Why did anyone need to build a pillow nest? "When you're ready to go, there's a stall in the morning market that sells filled flatbreads," Khalid commented. "Dates, nuts, cheese, things like that. It's almost like a danish, but better for you." |
