Jeane shrugged. "I thought we might be able to do something just us. Go somewhere maybe. I dunno, it was just a thought."
"I guess so," Cal replied. "Sure. What did you have in mind?" He didn't mind spending the day with Jeane. Not at all.
"Dunno yet. Somewhere quiet. Wouldn't want to make you too uncomfortable with people." Jeane grinned briefly.
Cal rolled his eyes, but pulled her a little closer.
"I'm not that bad," he muttered. "Usually." |
"But after tonight? You'll be jumpy and growly," Jeane teased, nestling into his side quite happily. "So somewhere quiet."
"Whatever you say," Cal replied as he let her cuddle. He knew when not to argue. "Come on, let's get home, it's freezing out here."
Jeane nodded and hurried the rest of the way home, shutting the door after them.
"Sleep first, then going out." |
"Sounds good to me," Cal said as he toed off his shoes at the door and took off his jacket. Then he waited for her to head to the bedroom before following.
Jeane didn't even bother getting fully undressed, just flopping over into bed and sprawling out. She was still tired.
Cal flopped over next to her, reaching out and wrapping his arms around her waist to pull her close.
"'S probably a good thing you didn't stick around the bar," he mumbled. |
"Good for me, good for the idiots, or good for you?" Jeane turned her head to smile at him, cuddling closer.
"Two of the three, maybe," Cal replied. "Good for us. It wasn't a real good night at the bar. Had to clean up the mess after."
Jeane sighed quietly. "I know. I know you don't want me to see that, but you can't scare me, Cal. You should know by now you're not getting rid of me."
"Doesn't mean I want to rub your face in it," Cal protested. He sighed. "I just... I don't want it to upset you."
"Don't worry about that. I can deal with that if it comes up." Jeane shrugged and snuggled closer, worming as close as physically possible to him. "But I appreciate the thought, love."
Cal let her snuggle closer and gave her a quick kiss.
"I'm gonna worry about it as long as it's an issue," he said. "But I'll try." |
"I figured as much." Jeane smiled and stayed there, just relaxing. "So do you have any ideas for tomorrow?"
"Sleeping," Cal promptly replied. "Not getting run into the ground by Nik. Ignoring Ish's phone calls." He grinned a bit. "Things like that."
Jeane laughed. "Alright, so no Nik and no Ish. Any other requests?" She grinned at him.
Cal grinned and kissed her neck.
"Can I have you?" he asked playfully. |
Jeane laughed quietly. "Hmm. I suppose we could work something about," she teased. "Maybe. If you're lucky."
"Maybe I can convince you," Cal said, kissing her neck again gently. Then he worked his way up and kissed her properly before pulling her close.
Jeane smiled and kissed him again. "Mmm. You're on the right track," she teased gently.
"Thought so," Cal replied. Then he set about really 'persuading' her.
A few days later, Jeane was starting to get antsy. She didn't want to wait any longer to test, but she wasn't sure if it would have properly registered yet. So she decided to pick up some tests on her way home from the museum. And she forgot that Cal would probably already be home since he'd taken an early shift.
