"You won't," Yugi said. He stood up from the bed. "C'mon, let's get back to the party."

Ashleigh nodded and took Yugi's hand.
"What's happening to me?" she asked. |
"I wish I knew," Yugi said as they left the apartment. He locked the door before setting off down the hall.

But something is happening, but what is it? Ashleigh thought as they entered the ballroom and joined the bridal table.
"I'm back girl" she whispered to Melhana. |
Melhana smiled back. "What happened back there?" She whispered.

"I don't know" Ashleigh replied, "I ended up with a fever and Yugi took care of it. But what's happening to me? This was the second time it happened."

Melhana bit her lower lip. "I wish I knew," She said. "You think it might have something to do with the fact that you've got a split soul?"

"A split what? I don't understand. If I have a split soul, why was Aka my Yami in the first place?" Ashleigh asked.

"I'm not sure," Melhana said. "But when you were out cold in my apartment at Omega, Uriel said something about you having a...dual soul. One half is Ashleigh, the one we know, and the other half is Malenkia."

"This is so confusing" Ashleigh said, "just when I think I'm ok, things get a lot more complicated."

"Yeah, I know." Melhana said. "But...you will be fine, won't you?"

"I....I don't know" Ashleigh replied, "I mean, what's going to happen to me?"
|
"Either your two personalities will merge into one, or..." Melhana hesitated. "Or one will become dominant and squeeze the other out of existance."

Ashleigh gasped.
"You mean, there's a chance that I might not exist?" she asked. |
Melhana nodded sadly. "I like the idea about as much as you do," she said. "Unfortunately, there's no way I can think of to keep it from happening."
"Same here," Bakura said, as he'd been listening in to the conversation. "The best thing we can do is hope that they'll either merge, or your personality will be the one to win out." |
"I see" Ashleigh said quietly, "but I still don't understand why this is happening to me now? Why not on the angelic plane when I was there?"

"I don't know," Bakura sighed. "All I know is that these things tend to happen at times that aren't convienent. I know that firsthand."

"I hope that I can survive this and get out alive" Ashleigh sighed as the starters came out.

"You and me both," Melhana said as the appetizers were served out to those who'd ordered them. She glanced down the table at Selena. "Since when did you go vegitarian?"
"End of high school," Selena replied. "It was mostly brought on by...well, you guys know what happened back then." |
"Huh? I didn't know about that" Ashleigh said, who didn't know about the incident.

Everyone fell silent. The gang from Duel Academy and Satilite out of curiosity, the gang from Domino High because they knew what had happened.
"Ashleigh, I don't--" Yugi started, but Selena cut him off. "I was in my high school's talent contest, back in the States." She said. "I won and got rewarded by having my vocal chords ripped out." |
"Oh I didn't know" Ashleigh said, "I thought it was some kind of disease which ruined your vocal cords."

Selena shook her head. "Nope. A dick with a knife." She replied bluntly.

"At least I now know" Ashleigh replied.

After several moments of silence, Bakura cleared his throat. "Well, now that that's been sorted," he said. "Er..." He trailed off, not sure of what to say to change the topic.
