"Stubborn streak and all?" Yugi asked.

"No, that's her now. I want the nice, kind, caring Selena who would do anything you you, even put her neck on the line to save you" Ashleigh replied.

"She can be stubborn even then." Yugi laughed. "Why else do you think in high school she and Jonouchi butted heads so much?"

"I don't know" Ashleigh replied, "she snapped me back to reality, and now it's my turn."

"Yeah," Yugi replied. "Here's hoping it works."

Ashleigh nodded.
The next day, everyone (except the two girls) was in Yugi's quarters, trying to figure out what was different about Ashleigh. "I can't really put my finger on it" Anzu replied, "I mean, she's different from what I can see." Ashleigh was trying to find where Selena went. She searched everywhere. When she was at the pier however, she felt a knife pearcing her skin of her throat. 'Selena, why are you doing this?' she mindlinked, knowing the aura all so well. |
Selena sighed and brought the knife down. "It's only you..." She said. "Sorry about that....I've been a bit on-edge lately."
"Yeah, even I've noticed something different about her." Jonouchi said. "She wasn't making her usual snide remarks about Kaiba at breakfast today." "She wasn't confusing Jou with math either." Honda said. |
"On-edge? What about?" Ashleigh asked, "You're trying to kill me, wern't you?"
"And when she snapped, there wasn't any shaking whatsoever" Aki added, "but what's different about her? Has she really changed during the three months?" |
Selena shook her head. "It's not you." She replied. "I just need to be on my guard now that I'm...well, let's just say that I might wind up having to kill to live long enough to break this curse. Once I find out...." She looked down at the knife and slipped it back into her boot. "And I don't like the idea."
"She had to," Otogi said. "She's more grown-up too, and not just mentally. I mean have you seen her--" He didn't get a chance to finish because Honda hit him over the head. "Yeowch!" |
"You don't have to kill anyone, nor no-one will kill you till the time is right. Let me tell you something Selena. I met the future you, and nobody tried to kill you at all. You don't focus on the curse. The last step will present yourself when the time is right" Ashleigh said, "but you need to know something else."
"We all noticed that" Aki said, "but I wonder what happened to her old body? Did it get destroyed or what?" |
Selena peered at her skeptically, not fully believing what Ashleigh was saying. Yet, she still took it with a rather largh grain of salt. "What else should I know?" She asked.
"No idea." Sora said, shrugging. "I think I know," Jonouchi said. "Yana went into Ashleigh's old hospital room today....and shrieked." |
Ashleigh took Selena to the waters edge. The reflection showed what the girl thought she reckoned people thought of her, a really ugly monster.
"This is what you think people are thinking of you. You're not like that" she explained as she casted a spell over the reflection to bring back Selena's proper reflection, "That is you. No, monster, no nothing. You are Selena Kuro, no weilder, no physic, even though you are one, just Selena that I know that would risk her neck for everyone. The death curse is blinding you for who you really are. The Selena I know would consider people's feelings and emotions, while fighting enemies, and who risked her soul to try and save mine. The death curse will break sometime in about 5000 years. I don't know when, but you have to believe me what I tell you, or the Selena I met in the future will change." "What happened?" Aki said, "And we agreed to keep her body underground until we know her choice. Who brought the body from underground?" |
"You should know as well as I do that the future isn't set in stone." Selena replied. "The future me that you met is only one possibility."
"Yana snuck in." Yugi replied. "The bed where Ashleigh's body had been was covered in ash." |
"I know" Ashleigh said, "but when you choose to die is upto you. When you die, you will be presented with the Demon Choice. Stay with us with the eye, or forget us completely and live a life you was denied. All weilders had the Choice and chose the second choice."
"Wow" Anzu said, "Did anyone clean it up?" |
"Then I know what I'll choose." Selena replied.
"I don't think anyone knew what to do...at least, until Yana screamed." Yugi replied. "That...and the ash was a pain to destroy....." |
"But you have to remember Selena, you're not a monster. You're our friend and we do care for you" Ashleigh said, "with or without the curse. Do you want to break it now, or when it it's time?"
"Now since that's sorted, now we have to figure out what's different about Ashleigh, besides her now body" Aki said, eyeing Otogi as she said that." |
"When it's time." Selena replied. "I want to be around to guide the next King of Games."
"Why're you giving me that look?" Otogi asked, shocked. "Because you'll flirt with anything that's female and walks on two legs." Honda replied. "You're not much better." Yugi said. "The only difference is Otogi's eyes are always on a girl's chest." "They are not!" Otogi protested. "Are to." The rest chorused. |
"As I thought" Ashleigh said, "Remember, if you need help, just ask."
"Anyway, we need to focus on what's at hand" Anzu sighed. |
Selena nodded. "It seems you'll be the only member of the gang that'll be around as long as me anyway."
"Right," Yugi replied. "In the end, because the ashes were so hard to destroy, I had to burn the entire gurney with them as well." |
"Not quite" Ashleigh said, "but you know what I mean when it's time."
"I was meaning Ashleigh" Anzu sighed. |
"Right....." Selena said, trailing off.
"Yeah, I know. Her temper isn't as volatile as it was before." Yugi said. |
"But if you ask, I be there. Believe me Selena, I'm an Arch Angel and I can travel to any time" Ashleigh said.
"Really? How come?" Aki asked. "Don't tell me she went through the aura test" Atem said. |
Selena nodded. "I'll remember that," She said with a small smile.
Yugi shook his head. "I didn't do an aura test." He replied. "I guess...I've been able to sense it, even more so since the ceremony." |
Ashleigh hugged Selena.
"I'm always there for you, during the up and down times" she said. "That is not what I meant. The aura test takes place in the dark angelic plane. You be put to sleep while your aura and emotions are seperated. When done, the test begins. If you survive 4 days without your soul dropping off, you are fit to be an angel. If not, your training is cancelled and is deported to the realm of the dead" Atem explained. |
After a moment, Selena hugged back.
"And I'll do the same for you." "I have no idea if they did that." Yugi replied. "But if they did, she must have passed." |
