"Yay, more legendary studying," Margaret joked as she sat down. Espeon settled at the foot of the cot for the moment, although she was likely to settle in with Jolteon later.
"No kidding. At least this time we'll be forewarned." Aleron settled down to her reading, petting Vulpix from time to time. Hey, it had been a good day once they'd gotten off that infernal boat. Especially because they'd gotten off that infernal boat.
"Yeah, rather than studying after the fact," Margaret replied. Briefly, she contemplated calling Professor Oak to let him know they'd made it to Littleroot Town.
Aleron glanced over at her. "We'll call Oak tomorrow and let him know that all's well," she said. "Sound good?" Because apparently the two were on the same frequency.
"Good, you were thinking what I was thinking," Margaret replied, looking over at Aleron. "...You were thinking it, right? I wasn't just somehow magically projecting at you?" Because she wouldn't put that one past her weird psychic-type affinity.
"Um. Yeah, the thought crossed my mind that we should tell Oak sometime..." Aleron shrugged. She was pretty sure it was her thought. But only pretty sure.
"Okay," Margaret replied, nodding. "Just making sure. Because I had almost the exact same thought."
Aleron shrugged after a moment. "Well, who knows. Maybe we're just starting to read each other too well." She settled down again. "Let me know if you find anything interesting in there."
"Yeah, maybe," Margaret agreed. She nodded and settled in with the book. Time to start learning about new legendaries. "You know, I think Hoenn has as many legendaries as Kanto and Johto combined."
"Seriously. How many did he say? Ten?" Aleron shook her head. "This is going to be nuts..."
"I think we can rule some out, though," Margaret replied. "Remember the two he said came from space? I'm betting they won't have any eggs to have stolen."
"That is true," Aleron agreed. "And I think he mentioned something about... Regice? Something like that? If it's actually made of ice I don't think it'll have eggs either."
"Or the other two, Regirock or Registeel," Margaret agreed. "Same concept. But these ones, Groudon and Kyogre, they might."
"Yeah, I can see them having eggs. And, um, the other ones that are left. Whatever they're called." Aleron flapped a hand, figuring Margaret could interpret.
"Latias and Latios," Margaret supplied, nodding. "Yeah. I'm not so sure about Rayqaza, though."
"I dunno. But it sounds like at least four could have eggs. Which isn't bad, out of ten, but still problematic." Aleron grimaced.
"Round off to five, then," Margaret said, "to be on the safe side. It's not too bad, considering Johto has five on its own and Kanto has another four." She didn't count Mewtwo in that, but she did count Mew, so she left it at four.
Aleron nodded. "So basically fourteen so far. And we still have two more regions to visit." She grimaced. "I hope they haven't stolen all the eggs..."
"I doubt Team Rocket could have," Margaret pointed out. She was quiet for a moment, thinking. "Do you think they have counterparts in the other regions?"
"Oh that's a scary thought." But the more Aleron thought about it, the more likely it seemed. She sighed. "They probably do. Or they have allies in other places. Because there's no way they could pull everything off on their own. I mean, they're not that big."
"Yeah," Margaret replied. She figured they could keep an eye out and see what happened. They didn't need to actively go looking for Team Whatever right now.
A while later, Aleron yawned and gave up. "Alright, I'm going to crash. Night." She put the book down off to the side, getting comfortable.
Margaret nodded, already thinking the same thing. Setting the book aside, she snuggled into her cot and was asleep quickly.
The next morning Aleron had browsed through the rest of the book and learned everything she thought she needed to know for the moment, so she gave the books back to Professor Birch.
"Any idea where we should head now?" she asked, looking at the professor. "Since we're new to the region and all." |
"I suppose that depends on what you're looking for," Birch replied. There were very different places to go that corresponded with the legends of the region.
