Aleron picked up two eggs, starting to move them over into the cave, and Vulpix started pushing one along carefully. Jolteon snorted at them, having already planted himself in front of the Eevee egg again.
Margaret picked up a couple eggs as well, and she couldn't help but grin a bit when Mew picked one up and Mesprit followed suit. Espeon, on the other hand, just went over and settled herself next to Jolteon and their egg.
After encouraging Ho-oh to help, it didn't take that long to move all the eggs into the cave, and then Aleron grinned.
"There. Nice warm protected cave, warm sand, space between all the eggs... looks good. My parents would be proud." |
"Now we need to figure out what to do about us," Margaret said. "We're going to need something better than a tent."
"Yes, we are." Aleron frowned. "Well, maybe I can go to one of the cities and see if I can borrow a Hitmonchan and a Machoke or something. They're supposed to be pretty good with construction stuff."
Margaret thought for a moment.
"Think Professor Oak has anything?" she asked. "We're not far from Pallet. Or Professor Elm, isn't he in New Bark Town? We're not far from there, either." |
"Yeah, I can check with them both. Then we just need to pick a spot and clear it." Aleron shrugged. "Shouldn't be too hard. Really the pokemon will be doing the hardest part."
"Right," Margaret said. "And Metagross can help with that, too. He may not be a fighting- or ground-type, but he can help clear the space and flatten it out."
Aleron nodded. "Yeah, I was hoping you'd volunteer him. Other than that, we could put up a fence. It wouldn't keep the legendaries in, but it would be a good physical boundary, so they know when they're home. Plus that way we can let the rest of our pokemon out too. And I have to get a few more pokemon from the ranch, too."
"I need to go back to Saffron and get Noctowl," Margaret said. "I'm not going to leave her at my parents' place if I'm not out wandering around. Better that she's here with the others." She grinned. "And she can keep an eye on the eggs, since she's not part of my active battle team."
Aleron nodded. "Yeah, my Rapidash and my Eevee both have experience with eggs, so I'm sure they'll be babysitting." She stretched briefly. "But for the moment it looks like things are good."
It took a while, but the girls were able to get the ranch up and running. Margaret was actually a little relieved; she'd been starting to get a bit antsy and wanted to get back on the road for a little bit. Taking care of a ranch was all well and good, but she was still used to traveling.
Aleron shooed Margaret out of the house. "Really. I'll be able to take care of everything here. We've only got a few legendary eggs left, so you don't have to worry about that. And I know you're itching to go, so go."
And she was only slightly worried about what would happen the first time a Legendary popped in to see Margaret and she was gone. Almost every one of the legendaries that had hatched had gone and come back again, apparently liking to keep track of the girls and continue to visit them. |
"You sure?" Margaret asked. "I can stick around and help if you need me to. I don't want to just up and leave if you need the extra hands."
"I've got two experienced mothers here. I'll be fine." Aleron grinned. "And if you end up wanting to leave any of your others besides Noctowl that's fine too. Really. I can manage."
"Alright..." Margaret picked up her empty bag. "I'll go pack, then. I'll make sure to give you a call when I leave a town, so you know where I'm headed next."
Aleron nodded, tossing her a portable little vid-screen. "There. I got one for each of us last time I was in a city. Makes things much easier, so you don't have to go to a town to call if you don't want to."
"Awesome," Margaret said as she caught it, looking it over interestedly. Traveling trainer or not, she always appreciated good technology. She slipped it into her bag and then went to go back her things.
Aleron went to go do her daily check of the ranch, checking on all the pokemon and the remaining eggs. The Eevee egg hadn't hatched yet, but she suspected it was only a matter of time now.
Once she was packed, Margaret hefted her bag and went to tell Aleron she was leaving. On her way out, she passed Noctowl and left her pokemon with instructions to listen to Aleron if the other trainer asked. Then she continued on to find her friend.
Aleron looked up from inspecting the eggs. "Ready to go?" she asked with a brief grin.
"I think so," Margaret replied. "I have everything. I'm leaving Noctowl here, and she knows to listen to you. She knows Fly, Uproar, Psybeam, and Hypnosis, if you ever need to know." She stretched a bit. "I'm taking the others with me, and I think my first Gym stop will be Azalea Town. I don't have that badge yet, and it's supposedly low-level enough I can train Natu there."
"Yeah, it should be." Aleron grinned at her. "Good luck, have fun. Call whenever you get a chance." She walked over. "I'll hold down the fort until you get back."
"Alright," Margaret said. She gave Aleron a hug, and then turned to leave. She had to go now if she was going to make it through the Falls and into New Bark by nightfall.
Aleron watched her go before she went to go spend some time with the pokemon that were there. She liked to keep them all busy.
