It took Margaret a few days to get to Azalea. It was a little lonely traveling by herself, since she'd gotten used to going with Aleron. She somehow managed to pick up a little twelve-year-old newbie as a shadow, between Cherrygrove and Violet City, but managed to lose him again when he stopped to battle Falkner and she didn't. She may have been a bit lonely, but she wasn't babysitting some brand-new trainer and his Totodile.
Finally, she got to Azalea Town and fought Bugsy for the Hive Badge. She was pleasantly surprised to find it was a decent challenge for Natu; being part flying and part psychic, it ended up with no real strength or weakness to bug-types, which made it ideal for the gym battle. It still went by quick. She left town quickly after she got the badge, hoping to get through Ilex Forest to Goldenrod City before nightfall. Her hopes were in vain, however, and she ended up camping out by the Ilex Shrine. Once she was settled for the night, she pulled out the portable vid-screen and called Aleron. |
Aleron picked up after two rings, grinning as she did. "Hey. Get that badge yet?" She idly plucked the little Eevee off her chest as it tried to climb her to investigate this new thing its person was holding. "As you can see, we've got a new little Eevee."
"Awww, it's so cute," Margaret replied. Espeon jumped up into her lap to get a look at her offspring. "The badge was pretty easy, even though the gym was all bug-types. I'm camped out in Ilex Forest at the moment, near the shrine. Apparently, local folklore says that Celebi appears around here every so often, and may even leave an egg behind."
Aleron snorted. "Yeah, watch, you'll wake up and be surrounded by eggs," she teased with a grin. She also moved the vid screen so that they could get a good look at the Eevee, who promptly tried to lean over and sniff the screen and tumbled out of Aleron's lap. "This one's a clutz."
"But it's adorable," Margaret replied, watching the little Eevee. Espeon watched as well, looking oddly proud and indulgent at the same time.
"It is." Aleron picked it up and put it back in her lap again. "None of the other legendaries have hatched yet, so you really haven't missed much."
"And I haven't seen any out and about," Margaret replied. "All seems quiet for the moment." She snickered. "I feel kind of like some sort of secret undercover agent or something, keeping an eye on the legendaries so nobody else gets their hands on them."
Aleron laughed a little. "Yeah, secret underground agent from the agency of two." She snickered. "I think the only reason we'd survive as an agency is because we've got a bunch of legendaries on our side."
Margaret snorted.
"Seriously," she said. "Too many to ignore." |
"Yup. And speaking of, there's Ho-oh. So, anything else interesting happen so far? Or just the gym badge?"
"I had some newbie following me around for a bit," Margaret replied. "Kept begging me to give him pointers, and all he had was a Sentret and a Totodile. I left him back in Violet City."
Aleron snickered. "Oh that's entertaining. He probably thinks he's now forever lost." She rolled her eyes. "Really, kid, just wander around. You'll figure it out pretty quick."
"Seriously," Margaret replied. "It's not like the basics are difficult, and it's not hard to put together a rudimentary balanced team between New Bark Town and Violet City, even with a Totodile." She shrugged. "He'll learn quick enough."
"Yup." Aleron yawned briefly. "Well, you should probably get some rest. Let me know if you see Celebi. I'm curious to see if it'll pop up because you're there."
"That's the theory," Margaret said cheerfully. "So we'll see." She grinned. "You go get some rest, too."
"Don't worry, I will." Aleron grinned. "I'll talk to you in the morning. Sleep well. Good luck Celebi-hunting."
"You sleep well too," Margaret replied. "I'll let you know what happens." With that, she turned off the video feed and settled in to her cot for the night.
Aleron went to go break up a squabble between Ho-oh and Gyarados before she took the little Eevee and went to bed, Vulpix and the little Suicune trotting after her.
Margaret, to her surprise, was able to sleep straight through the night. None of the nocturnal pokemon in the forest bothered her, and if there was any sort of legendary visit, it didn't wake her. And she did indeed get a legendary visitor: when she woke up, there was a small, iridescent green egg nestled against her in her cot.
By the time Margaret got up, Aleron was busy running around the ranch. A few of the legendaries had decided to visit, and whether it was because there were other legendaries or just because it was time, two of the eggs had decided to hatch. Leaving her to deal with a baby Cobalion and a baby Virizion.
It was one of those days. |
Once Margaret had her camp all packed up, she decided to call Aleron and tell her about the new egg. And it was clearly a Celebi egg; the color combined with the faint vibrations of psychic power assured her of that. Sitting down in front of the shrine with the egg in her lap, she called her friend.
Aleron grabbed her vid screen and flipped it on. "Hey, what's up?" She disappeared for a moment to scold Ho-oh for picking on Virizion and came back with the legendary bird on her shoulder. He barely fit anymore.
"This is, in fact," Margaret replied, grinning and holding up the Celebi egg. "I found it this morning when I woke up."
"Another legendary egg?" Aleron blinked. "Cool. We'll have another one to add to the horde, then." She turned the screen around to show the two newly-hatched pokemon, as well as the few others that had decided to come visit. "We've got more."
Margaret blinked.
"I see this," she replied. She snickered. "I think it's a little ironic that Shaymin is snuggling in next to Vuplix, by the way. Just a little." |
