It took Naomi a little while to calm down again. She noticed when her room started getting colder, and briefly wondered who had turned down the thermostat again. Probably Osanna, she was thoughtful like that. After changing into lounge pants and a tank top, she made her way back downstairs to see if anyone was still there.
|
Ed and Al were still there, since they weren't comfortable with Osanna, and Hiei was once again outside. Yusuke had gone back to playing Portal, since he was addicted.
Osanna, meanwhile, had started cleaning up her own kitchen, doing dishes and wiping down the counters. |
Naomi was actually kind of surprised to see them still there. Ed and Al had complained about the cold before, after all. She wasn't surprised to see Yusuke playing Portal, though. It was a fantastic game.
"The cake is a lie," she commented as she walked by. Kurama had stayed behind as well. It didn't seem right to be the only one to go back with Osanna, even if he did want to ask a few questions. It seemed inappropriate. |
Yusuke snickered at that, shaking his head. "This game is fantastic. I need a copy when I get home again." He grinned and scooted over so she could play again.
Hiei glanced over at Kurama from his place in a tree. "You didn't follow her." |
"The GPS in my car speaks with GLaDOS' voice," Naomi commented as she sat down and picked up the controller again. "Although it doesn't offer me cake."
"No," Kurama replied. "It would be rude to just invite myself into her home, and we aren't well enough acquainted yet for that." |
Yusuke snickered at that. "Sounds like fun." He held out the other remote to her.
"But you were curious." Hiei raised an eyebrow at him. He didn't do social etiquette. |
"Oh it is," Naomi agreed. Taking the controller, she started the game up again and immediately started breezing through the earlier levels. She grinned. "I kind of wish I had a portal gun. It's badass."
"A little," Kurama replied. He didn't deny that he wanted to talk to Osanna. |
"Yeah, it kind of is," Yusuke agreed. "Hey, I could throw Hiei into a portal." He grinned.
Hiei shook his head. He'd never understand how humans worked. If it were him, he'd just go talk to her. |
"Toss the freak into a portal loop or something," Naomi muttered. It was an unusually amusing mental image. She couldn't help but grin.
Al listened to the conversation absently, but he didn't understand all the talk about portals, so he went back to the book he and Ed were reading. |
Yusuke snickered. "Now that could be hilarious," he said. "Right before he tries to kill me, but it would still be hilarious." He grinned even wider at the image of Hiei falling through a portal loop and getting stuck.
Ed shook his head at the two of them. He was half-tempted to go over to Osanna's house just because it would be quieter. And warmer. |
Naomi couldn't help but snicker a bit, too. Something about Hiei rubbed her the wrong way, probably the fact that he was her opposite element. She didn't do well around fire. She handed the controller back to Yusuke. "Here. Play your way to the end. The ending theme song is kind of amusing and disturbing at the same time."
|
"I think I've seen everything really disturbing already," Yusuke muttered, more to himself than anything. But he continued playing, and made it all the way to the end. He couldn't help it; the game was addicting. "Okay, I definitely need a copy when I get home."
|
Naomi just watched him play through the game. She'd already beaten it before. After a moment, she reached over for her cell phone and texted Osanna.
Why don't you come and spend the night at my place? she offered. Bring your electric blanket, mine's already been claimed, I think. |
Sure! I'll bring a couple extra blankets, since it seems like they're featherweights when it comes to cold. Osanna grinned as she gathered up what she'd need, including a special stuffed animal and her personal pillow before she trekked over to Naomi's house.
Ed blinked and looked over at the door when he heard a quiet knock. He guessed it was probably Osanna. |
They're pansies, Naomi replied. She couldn't help giggling a little as she sent the text. A few minutes later, she got up when she heard the knock at the door.
"Who is it?" Al asked as she went by. "Osanna," Naomi said. She didn't notice how Kurama immediately looked over when she said that. |
Hiei couldn't help but snort at the fox's attention. Sometimes Kurama just needed a push, and, even though he wasn't generally in the business of giving pushes, this was too entertaining. "Why not go talk to her, fox?"
Ed nodded and went back to his book. He wanted to ask Osanna a few things too now. The more he knew about this world the better prepared he'd be. Osanna smiled at Naomi, holding up two electric blankets and a couple of her super fuzzy warm blankets. Some people collected pillows, some collected plates... She collected blankets. Specifically fuzzy blankets. |
Naomi let Osanna get settled in like usual. They had sleepovers fairly often, so they had a kind of routine by now.
"I've addicted another person to Portal," she joked. Al was oddly grateful when he saw Osanna come in with even more blankets. He still didn't think it was natural for someone to keep their house so cold, even if he did know why. "Perhaps in a little while," Kurama murmured as he watched Osanna. There was something about her that caught his attention. |
Osanna grinned and shook her head, setting the bag with the blankets down before going up to the guest room to put down her pillow, clothes, her blanket, and stuffed animal. Then she trotted back down the stairs and went to go investigate what Ed and Al were reading.
Ed looked up to find Osanna trying to read his book upside-down. "Here," he said, flipping it so it was right-side-up. "You read it?" Osanna nodded a couple times, sitting down across from the two. She was very familiar with the book, since she and Naomi swapped often. Hiei snorted but stayed where he was sitting in the window watching everyone else. Yusuke grinned as he looked at Naomi. "So, wanna start again?" he asked. He really liked this game. |
"No, but you're more than welcome to play it again," Naomi replied. She grabbed the second Portal game out of her box of games and handed it to him, and then went and sat down next to Osanna. "And you... thanks for turning the thermostat down again earlier." She grinned.
|
Osanna smiled at her and wrote out, You looked like you could use the cool off. Besides, I got to go play with my plants.
Ed looked at the two before he shook his head. "How long have you two known each other?" My whole life. She's older. Osanna shrugged. |
"Not by much," Naomi added when she saw the second message. "I'm only older by like a year. Maybe not even that." She gave Osanna a friendly shove. "You and your little green things. I don't get how you can sit and stare at them for so long." Not that Naomi was any good with plants. She couldn't keep one alive if her life depended on it.
|
Osanna stuck her tongue out at Naomi, her gaze straying around the room. Yusuke was still happily ensconced in video games, Hiei was still on the windowsill, and Kurama... She looked at him for a moment longer before looking back at Ed. Well, she'd just not go there.
"So you do plants?" Ed asked, raising his eyebrows. "Like she works with ice, you work with plants?" Osanna practically beamed and nodded. Very good! she wrote out swiftly. I'm not all that good at it, but yes, I work with plants. Mostly just mundane things, though. Ed wasn't sure if he wanted to ask what she considered to be exotic. |
Naomi noticed how Osanna's gaze lingered on Kurama for a moment. She gave her friend a little push.
"Oh go on," she said. "Take your notebook and go talk to him." |
Osanna let out a huff of air but got up, grabbing her notebook and pen, and walked over to Kurama, a little hesitantly.
Ed couldn't help but snicker at that. "Doing your older sister duties?" |
"Maybe a little," Naomi replied. She grinned. "Someone's got to be around to give her a shove once in a while. Besides, I'm sure they'll find things in common with each other."
Kurama definitely noticed when Osanna walked over. "Hello again," he greeted, making space so she could sit down. |
